At the end of the day, those who like the game will play it, those who don't won't.
Really not that complicated.
More like those who like it will be playing the game, those who don't will be on here trolling about the game. They'd rather bitch about a game that they don't like then play a game they do like, makes no fucking sense to me.
Whats even more annoying is people that come on to call people trolls when they dont agree with what they are saying. See what I did there?
If you don't like the game why are you still here though, why are you wasting more time with a game you don't like. That's what I don't get, if there's a game I don't like I try not to extend my exposure to it, I move on to something that I do like. This game was clearly not made for you, go find something that was made for you. Continuing to put down this game accomplishes nothing for you.

He does not understand that what he is doing by coming to forums to "TROLL" a game he does not like.
Definition : In Internet slang, a troll (/?tro?l/, /?tr?l/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people,[1] by posting inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog), either accidentally[3][4] or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[5] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[6] While this sense of the word troll and its associated verb trolling are associated with Internet discourse, media attention in recent years has made such labels subjective, with trolling also used to describe intentionally provocative actions and harassment outside of an online context. For example, mass media has used troll to describe "a person who defaces Internet tribute sites with the aim of causing grief to families."
So this is exactly what he is doing. Exactly what he says he is NOT doing.

Ever hear of the term "misery loves company?"
That's the dynamic at play in these troll threads. They resent the fact that others are having fun with the game so they aim to bring their misery to the forums in an attempt to get approval and sympathy from like minded people. A plus would be if in the process they could deter others from enjoying the game as wall.
Fact of the matter is, that not everyone will like every game. There will always be subsets of the gaming community that will not be satisfied with a game, regardless of the game.
A lot of the resentment for FFXIV is the fact that the game will be P2P. Many of these freeloaders nowadays cannot stand to pay to play. They want to be given everything for free.
Uh....where have we heard the "it's still in BETA" argument? Oh, that's right....original FFXIV. If I had a nickel for every "It's still in Beta" replies I would be rich! That game tanked harder than any game since SWG after the NGE. Unplayable at release, had to click several different buttons just to open your inventory....the list goes on and on and on. They eventually fixed all the garbage that sunk this game in the first place. And still no one played it.
Anyway, it's a Final Fantasy game so of course it has 12 billion cut scenes by level 15 and they all are too long.
The first 15 levels almost made me lose hope in this game during phase 3, but you have literally seen nothing up to that point. Keep playing and I will bet money you will be snakebitten from it.
It is a shame this phase has so many issues but most if not all of the worlds are stuffed with people, constantly. Hopefully it gets fixed, damn duty finder caused me to get booted, hopefully thats all that happens
Wow so many flaws to that OP post lets start with the gcd one.
Archer @ level 15 has 3 abilities off GCD if you aren't constantly pressing something in between casts you aren't executing the most damage you can be, and therefore its a learn to play issue.
No character progression? Attribute points every certain amount of levels, followed by the amount of skills/traits the archer learns alone is quite a bit. But even then in order to obtain the bard job you have to level archer to 30 and conjurer to 15, and while doing so you would also get attribute points for your conjurer and be able to take skills between both classes. Moral of the story, there is a butt ton of character progression. Jobs skill lines haven't even been implemented until early access.
PvP will be present patch 2.1 (right after launch), in the form of 4v4 and 8v8 arena. Eventually branching off into 3 faction pvp which they are calling "Frontlines" likely to come out 3-6 months post release.
TL,DR: It's ok to not enjoy something about a game, I totally get that. But spewing out false information to the community doesn't really look good on the whole, or help anyone.
The same people who have been hiding behind the "It's still in beta!" card are the same ones who are defending the #3102 error.
I don't know how you can possibly NOT be concerned that roughly 15% of the player base from this weekend was completely barred from playing due to an incredibly intense server and data malfunction. Add in the fact that it took SE roughly 10 hours to even go "Hey, there's a problem... and we have no idea how to fix it!" via their twitter (after they shut down their forums for 8 hours, and closed tech support)
Yes, it's in beta. But that beta ends in a few hours. Official Early-Access Starts in 6 days, and over half the game wasn't even tested yet. I'd be pretty damned concerned, personally. That's a *LOT* of stuff that needs to be addressed, and there's a very small window to fix it. Also, any fix they do put out in the next week isn't going to be implemented during beta, but during the actual release.
So sit and think on that for a minute. You're entering release with an experimental fix that may/may not help 10-20% of the population play their characters (or not).
Fact, it is still Beta. Obviously, they need mroe time. Will they use more time and push release??? I actually hope so.
And I rarely read forums because most people post and try to preach about topics that they have little to no knowledge of. On a quick scan, this forum was the same. Most of the comments here are flat out uninformed, or wrong.
I played FFXI for 7 years... Still Active. I played GW2 for a year... Still active and I played TERA for a year... Still active. Each game offers something. To eaach his own.
BUT I love FF and I pray they figure this out.
With that being said... Unfortunately, Cymdai is on point. And I am concerned. But I will wait patiently and allow them to try to get this right because regardless of any single point anyone tried to make, FFXIV DOES Offer something. Lets just see if that something is worth paying for. That I just don't know yet.
And if your so excited to point out how other games are better, then go play those games. I mean have at it! There is a way to simply state your opinion without trying to push people to something else. Because most of the time, that's how peoples bit&hing comes across.

Sorry, but I go commando. Nothing to bunch up here.
You know what.. those that like it are right.. it is a beta and they could pull something amazing out of their hat in time for release, however unlikely that seems.
But lets be honest here.. there have been much better betas.
I'm on the side that says why play this over something like Rift that is free and has TONS more content and features.
It's a solid game.. there's just games out there that are just as solid and are more established already.
.. and if people can post about how much they want to play it, then people can post about how much they don't want to.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Truth be told I logged out when I hit 15 so you may be right. Doesnt change the fact that the combat is very slow and clearly onpar with something from 2005.
Yes there is the jobs. I could be wrong but evnetually every bard will have similar skills with maybe some slightly tweaked attributes and like you said those arent even implemented.
I did not have the chance to test out pvp, which from what I was told was limited to lvl 30 legacy players.
Honestly just stating my opinion. Some people havent tested it yet and you would have to be a fool to deny theres alot of people looking at this game with some VERY rosy colored glasses.

You do the same thing in FFXIV, that's my point. The gameplay is no different to other MMOS with more to offer. The only reason I can see for someone to choose this over other MMOs is if they are really into the FF theme.. everything else can be found elsewhere with more content and features... and without a sub if needed. Aion, TERA and Rift all have decent ftp models... I personally think any one of those is a better option. Aion and TERA if you like your MMOs jRPG style..
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

No. Your problem is that you went into a Final Fantasy game expecting something different. Every single one of your points you could have read about before even logging into the game.
This game offers the best crafting and gathering systems I've played since SWG. I can definitely understand if thats not your cup of tea. But for players like myself, its home sweet home.

@OP I currently play FTP Rift and enjoy it immensely, but its a different type of MMORPG. Rift in my experience has an extremely dull story that is more of an action movie than anything else. The combat is good and the difference between each player is massive, but at 60 I just get the action game vibe. Its PvP/Instance/Raids. The same as many other MMOs on the market. Its fun to play with friends, but can get boring pretty fast.
Final Fantasy XIV offers one thing that is rare nowadays. It draws you into the world and your character. It feels alive.
I Understand that many players don't play games for this anymore, but it was a nice surprise for some of us. We tire of the casual instance/raid/pvp cycle and just want to enter a living breathing fantasy world.
Its not going to be a next gen MMO that changes things and draws in tens of millions of players, but I do think FFXIV has a chance to keep a solid player base.
Biggest thing to be seen is how hard it is to fully level up and what the end game is like. Which will make it or break it.
Yeah sadly I keep waiting for something... not sure really what.
Thanks for the constructive post though and glad to see your having fun with it. I think I may just be to old to get drawn into games like I once could.
Your points are all based on opinion and playstyle...nothing that really would prevent anyone from playing this game.
I am a RPG/Sandbox fan...I find Rift...ridiculously boring...even or free its not worth my time. FFXIV for me is refreshing, the world is beautiful, animations great ability to play easily with my console controller (pc) even better. Questing seems to interest me so on. I frankly thing ARR is the best MMO of 2013 so far...i mean what else this year...hell even last is relatively good?
If you're patience is tested by the opening cutscene's and text bubbles...then I am afraid you have ADD either that or you dont care for the RPG in MMO's and just enjoy the grind or competitive aspects, which is fine but dont shit on a game because its not for you.
I get that some people wont like this game, just like I cant stand Rift, but thats the beauty of gaming...there is one game for everyone.
This game offers the best crafting and gathering systems I've played since SWG. I can definitely understand if thats not your cup of tea. But for players like myself, its home sweet home.
I wouldnt go as far as that good lol, but yes it is good and definitely better than most current top 5 mmo's.
I also think the hardest part for me was getting past the CUTE Characters lol...didnt seem like any customization i made wasnt adorable to my wife lol.

This
Yeah sadly I keep waiting for something... not sure really what.
I wouldnt go as far as that good lol, but yes it is good and definitely better than most current top 5 mmo's.
I also think the hardest part for me was getting past the CUTE Characters lol...didnt seem like any customization i made wasnt adorable to my wife lol.
Fun game though.
