not enough money spent on PR and advertising which is why its likely this game will be awesome.
The only reason I personally am not looking into it is because I am burned out on fantasy/kings and knights etc type games. If I never played another one from that genre ever again I would be happy
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
Most people didn't play a well made RvR centric game and don't know how fun it can be. All they know is the standard MMO formula and are affraid of any change even if they'll often say otherwise.
Now please bring me 10 bear tails because any game trying to be different is doomed to failure .

This is kind of what I know what you mean about being a bit burned out on fantasy type mmos. Other then the $ for Ads. I think it's also because this mmo is years away from launch. Most games that are only into a couple years into production do this. I remember like 7-8 years ago reading a small 1/4 page article on PCgamer about Wildstar. All they had was one picture of the game. Five years later, and the hype started.
I'm not really interested in this mmo. But, I am happy for those that think this might be the mmo they are looking for. I wouldn't worry about it if I was a fan of the mmo. In a few years, you will start seeing a lot about this game. Especially, when the mmo will go into alpha/beta. Just my opinion.

PvP is way more popular than PvE in online gaming. What have you been smoking?
RTSs, MOBAs, FPSs, online gambling, sports games etc etc etc
The only reason MMOs don't do well with PvP is because they're all about progression and the PvP always ends up being imbalanced in some way or other. True PvPers like to compete on a level playing field where skill determins the outcome of an encounter, not gear or power level, so naturally MMOs don't appeal to them all that much.

That's fair. Let me rephrase what Dreamscaper said.
" MMORPG PVP isn't nearly as popular as most of its vocal supporters think it is."
I've seen some new info on the game this week and maybe it's better if the game builds hype slowly instead of tons of insta hype. I don't think it's good for games early in production to b over hyped. Makes it hard to live up to.
Originally posted by Artwolf Its in its infancy stage still. When a lot of these great "on paper" ideas make it into the game so we can actually see it working, then hype will build.

Just vaporware right now, hope it does make it out...had a friend donate $500.00 US to the project...
I never understood why a game needs to promote itself that far in advance. The only thing you are doing is creating more work for yourself and setting up expectations before you know what you can actually do with the game. I look at WOW and the stuff they announced at Blizzcon, barely 8 months ago and all the stuff they had to change in WoD since that time.
Now you talk about a game that is 3 years away from launch? very little of what they are talking about will make it to the live game, if they actually ever launch.
Then they end up having to spend a lot of time end effort entertaining their followers for 3 years. And there is also the problem of momentum.. players will expect that the rate of new information increases as time goes by. Greedmonger had that problem this year, they did a ton of talking and PR last year, now they are having problems because the devs have seemed to have disappeared ( compared to last year).
Check out www.holdpoint-online.com We waited until we knew our launch date before we did any PR.

I'd be ALOT more hyped about CU if there was actually hard footage & beta tests. But after the KickStarter all we've been getting is easy written segments on how things are going to work. The last video we got that gave us something nice to look at was the introducing Camelot unchained lol an that was just some subtitles & art work.
I jumped on board during the Kickstarter so no doubt am exited for it's potential but I also see why most find it simply too early in development to commit to hype. I really enjoyed the BSC days but it very much is just conceptual ideas at this point. This sort of thing interests me but consumers as a whole prefer reviewing a product which this game isn't quite at really.
Game has RvR, crafting and housing. It features a 100% RvR-based leveling track for all combat (non crafter) classes. All leveling comes from engaging in RvR whether by fighting other players, capturing objectives, and/or crafting objects to help in RvR.
So far, we have committed to 12 races and classes at launch plus a unique pure “crafter-only” class and that number can go up, not down, over the next two years.
12 races and classes. Now thats a lot of variety for a new mmo at launch.
Because PvP is possibly the worst way to build an MMORPG. It's good as a supporting feature (EvE), but when it becomes the focus you get simply get an expensive online FPS.
Originally posted by tixylix Because you do not make great MMOs with 2 million these days, it'll probably look so dated.
Why does that matter?
You don't make a good MMO with 300 million either. SWTOR and TESO and Rift have all been trash. You make a good MMO with good game design. Graphics don't matter to anyone that's going to keep your MMO afloat after the initial launch.
What matters is that they have a brilliant designer behind them, who has been making MMO/MUDs for almost 30 years now, as well as possibly the best server engineer in the business. And a bunch of young talent who are working for less because they actually have passion. That's how all the golden age MMOs were made, fueled by passion, not profit margins.

It is in early stage of development. It is even in pre alpha state. But they do actually have a test server and shown it at the BSC days(and event where they streamed a lot of presentations, developer talks and more) and i do agree there was not a lot of information up to the BSC days. (vid link for those BSC vids: https://www.youtube.com/user/CityStateGames/playlists?sort=dd&view=1&shelf_id=0 ) And even the information from BSC days is mostly design papers, but worth listening and rather interesting.
But what do you have to show, when you actually just finished your engine, server code and the basic tools for making your game? Not a lot. And not a lot what the usual gamer would be interested in. They have more than enough time to build up hype in a later development cycle when they have actually something to show off.
But for me Camelot Unchained is one of the more interesting kickstarter MMOs with a lot of fresh ideas and want to deliver something different in comparsion to the usual MMO monotony.
On the other side you can not expect quality, polish and amount of content from MMOs with a budget below $10 million, as from games like Wildstar, ESO, SWTOR, WoW, and all those others with almost or above $100 million.
However.. as with most games crowdfunded in the last 1-2 years, there is a lot of time ahead before we actually see a released game.. because for most MMOs the development cycle is above 5 years.(e.g. Wildstar with around 7 years in development, WoW with a similar amount of time). And especially, and that is maybe the problem for kickstarter mmos, you will not hear anything from AAA MMOs the first 3 years, and only the 1-2 last years of development, where a lot is already set in stone and all the foundation is done.. so the waiting time for kickstarter mmos is especially long and for some disturbing.

So i guess you are mostly a pve player and have no whatsoever idea about pvp. Truth is.. the space of pvp is not in the slightest explored up to now. MOBAs are only the first tiny step, and more to come.. and especially in persistents worlds and with a little bit more massive scale.(not neccesary MMORPGs, but to some degree MMO like)
And yes.. for players like you it is most probably uninteresting, because a PvP game(made as a PvP game) is something completely different what the usual MMORPG player expect.

All those great features you talk about, are only on paper at this point. The guy producing the game has a wee bit of bad history that make people skittish about trusting what he has to say.
Once people start seeing some actual in game footage things might change, but until then the game is just vaporware. Also, this game is very niche. PvP is not as all appealing as it's vocal (read: whiny tantrum throwing) supporters think it is. So I doubt it will ever see the hype levels it's supporters think it deserves.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
All the latest games made by Mythic/Jacobs were rubbish. Warhammer is one of the few MMORPGs that was actually shut down. Mythic got shut down too now. And even DAoC never passed 250k players at it's prime.
Yet you still think that those guys, Jacobs leading, can make a good game with a crappy crowdfunding budget?
I have a bridge to sell, it's in the San Francisco bay, beautiful and golden, please send me a private message if interested.
Every company touched by EA dies, WAR despite being released half finished had some great ideas behind it. DAoC was one of the biggest players in its time, all you're doing here is making yourself look ignorant.
As for CU, pledging for it is a risk for sure, like every kickstarter. I love the ideas behind the game and will gladly support such initiative even if it's not certain it will actually end up being successful.
The only one making himself looking "ignorant" is you here, kid. I've been playing those games since their beginning, and DAoC barely got 250k players when EQ had over 650k.
Yeah, calling me a kid really helps you argument. Even if numbers really tell you something about video game quality, DAoC was at the top back then however you look at it.

But like others have said the lack of PVE will keep most people away. That's not a knock at the game just a fact to point out.
Personally, I'm hoping it becomes the PvP holy grail so people who like that will have a place to call home.
