Hate to piss on your cheerios but wildstar is doing just fine. Years ago they said they were aiming the game toward the Hardcore raiding & pvp niche audiences, and that is exactly what they have built their game to do. Perhaps instead of ranting and raving that they need to change this or that, you should instead find another game that is tailored to fit your particular Niche.
Instead of trying to force your way into another one.
The issue arises with how low the population is already though. Making a game for the hardcore community is great and a good idea, but they should of seen this coming imo on the population issues. A simple server merge will fix most of the problems people are having if necessary, but I think Carbine is loathe to do that because server merges generally have a negative connotation even though the outcome is almost always positive.
I agree there needs to be games with hardcore content for hardcore players, but for the game to be profitable they need those players playing beside casual players playing casual content. Otherwise, you end up with the population issues WildStar is having due to only catering to one group of individuals. As I said, server merges is a good way to fix this and keep it hardcore only if they is what they want, but I have a feeling they won't give up the prospect of making money so easily, especially with NC$oft involved in the mess.
Well said... I look at it the same way as designing games around the hardcore FFA playerbase. It's a very risky plan, better suited to small studios like AV.
With major publishers involved (especially one like NC) it just seems like a possible recipe for failure. As they don't give a rats ass about filling niches, they care about revenue.
I can't see them sticking to such a plan if the rumors about populations are true. Hypothetically speaking anyway.. I get it that the hardcore want their own game, that's understandable. However when you're a part of a small subset like that you have to also accept your subset may not be enough to support a game, at least not one run by a major AAA publisher, who has no qualms about shutting projects down.
This exactly! I hate to have to say "I told you so" over and over again.
What will happen when this game goes F2P (it will...i'd bet my life on it)?
The hardcore crowd will call it a sell out and move onto some other delusional companies game and proclaim that game as their shiny beacon of hardcore awesomeness on the hill entirely unaware that the foundation is just as rotten as the last game.
Eventually you just gotta stop and think "how do we find balance and get as much as we want while satisfying the mmo base and thus staying viable".
Honestly, just do hardcore and softcore (hehe) servers and be done with it. That way the Hardcore players have access to attunements and grind and all that nonense and we casuals can have no attunement or ridiculous grinds. I'm surprised that WoW doesn't have at least one Vanialla/TBC legacy server so people can go and remember how fun all that b.s. was.
No offense, but there are plenty other games for you out there. Not every game has to cater to casuals, especially not in its hardcore content. It's pretty simple, get it into your head already.
You do not like that. Fine. Play another game and leave our Wildstar as it is. Thank you.
PS: I don't care if it ends up being 500 people playing Wildstar. It will be the 500 that matter as far as I'm concerned. And if the game has to close down due to lack of revenue, so be it. But at least it will be worthy game while it lasts.
HAHAHAHA too good.
I just forwarded this along to NCSoft and got their reply. It was short and sweet.
NCSoft: "Cool story bro. Now, where's the money Lebowski?"
NCSoft doesn't care and they are not playing around. They do not want a 100 million dollar niche title and I doubt they were promised a 100 million dollar niche title.
Don't believe me? Go ask COH...oh wait, you can't. Yeah...that game was actually alive...until NCSoft came along and deaded it. They dropped 100 million + to make Wildstar. They are a publicly traded company with stock holders and a board. They want the largest return on their investment possible.
This game will go F2P because ALL games go F2P. WoW get's away with it because it's WoW. FF14 gets away with it because it's developed and published by the same company so they can choose to do with it what they will. Also, they have DEEEEEEEP pockets.
Carbine is a new studio under a very large money hungry publisher.
Good luck. You are going to need it.
I feel lucky already every day that I see casuals complaining over the forums because they're incapable of attuning for raids.
It may last or it may not, but every second is delightful, and the clock just keeps ticking in my favour.
Did you know that they've recently buffed the difficulty of getting silver and gold medal in Sanctuary of the Swordmaiden? (arguably the hardest 5-man dungeon of them all, also needed for the raid attunement).
Yep, seems like I'm in luck so far.
My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.

I dont know why people dont get it, I am a casual player and I agree with the people that have posted here saying the game does not need saving, flash news this game was designed for hardcores, the same way there are games designed for casual, this is for hardcores, you dont like it? Tough, dont try to change or dumb down the game because you are not a hardcore.
If you like the game, learn to play hardcore style or move somewhere else, but to force the devs to change the game because you are not hardcore and you refuse to make your effort to at least play better, c'mon gimme a break.
I cannot be great in this game because I am a casual who has very limited amount of time to play and really I play to relax, pew pew, kill some mobs on PVE servers, collect some junk, sell some, craft some, no harcdore here, I will never be a hardcore player, but I will never go to the forum to say, "hey devs this game is going to die if you dont dumb it down so I can play", that is silly.
Hardcores have the right to enjoy a hardcore games and to be honest there are not that many hardcore games out there.

You didn't read the thread. No one wants hard or difficult content to go away, that I knew of anyway. People want content that is accessible without having ridiculous attunements or requiring large numbers of people to participate. A game can be difficult and hardcore while still being accessible to those with time constraints. Time =/= difficulty, and no one that I know of wants the game's hard content removed so much as something for casual players to actually do and accomplish when they play.
Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV Have played: You name it If you mention rose tinted glasses, you better be referring to Mitch Hedberg.
Did they ever get to optimizing the game? Didn't buy it due to less than 30 fps running around solo.
Would consider it if the box price was reduced and the game ran like every other MMO out there.
Framerate issues still plague a lot of higher end users last I heard. I haven't actually played in 2 weeks now, so take from that what you will. The first content drop actually added more problems, but I won't get into that here.

A couple things just HAVE to be said about this.
1. The reason we say "this game is going to die if you don't strawman argument it down so I can play" is because ...IT'S TRUE!
2. Think about this. Why are there not a lot of hardcore games out there?
THINK REEEEEAAAAALLLLL HARD.
I understand your point and I know what you are saying and that was my position until this game came out and I have seen the onslaught of people demanding for this game to be dumb down and I dont agree with it, the devs in this game didnt lie to us promising one thing and delivering another, the devs said from the beginning that this game was not for all type of players but for HARDCORE type of players, so why should I demand anything when I was informed before the game launched that is was a hardcore game?

No one has a problem understanding Hardcore folks want their own games. No one can force the devs to change the game outside of NCsoft. IF it's going to happen that's why it will happen. Maybe people just aren't familiar with Ncsoft? Ever heard of a short lived niche title called Auto Assault? How about a game that lost some steam called City of Heroes? Tabula Rasa?
Ncsoft is responsible for some of the highest pop games out there. They're also one of the quickest companies to shut down games that aren't doing too hot. They're not SOE who will just let a product slowly die off into nothing, they will shut it down before it gets any where close to that.
In the end it doesn't matter what casuals or hardcore players want, what matters is what Ncsoft wants, not carbine, not their players, Ncsoft.

Fair enough I suppose. I'd prefer them to leave the current content as it is and add new content myself, there is no reason to ruin the hard content. It didn't click that he was asking for them to dumb down the game rather than just add new content. My apologies.

So, there is this really delicious ice cream parlor. Only problem is: in order to get the ice cream you have to first be kicked in the junk..
You don't want to get kicked in the junk to enjoy the delicious ice cream? Then it's clearly not your type of ice cream.
MMO games change. Already carbine and you disagree. Why else would Carbine say "we are NOT going to have another horrific attunement like this one". All future attunements will be short story missions.
Also, I already left. And so have many others. With our wallets. I'm glad that you are glad for the decreased revenue for the maker of the game you love so much. I'm sure the suits at Carbine and NCSoft are glad to see us go too.
To be controversial, there are many games that bring nothing new to the genre, and if they died I would not mourn their loss.
A game that is aiming for people who have far too much time on their hands (this game is not about skill, it is about time) is not particularly useful to anyone. Most of it feels ten years out of date (and not even the good parts of what existed ten years ago).
but I will never go to the forum to say, "hey devs this game is going to die if you dont dumb it down so I can play", that is silly.

Because "Hardcore" is a meaningless term without proper context and explanation.
This has been said a million times: Hardcore != Tedious. Dark souls vs Demon Souls. Demon souls required lots and lots of farming in order to proceed. That is Tedious. Dark Souls requires nothing more than player skill. THAT is hardcore.
No one can save Wildstar, the devs bet everything on the so called "hardcore" community they thought they could tap.
However, as it stands now, only 100 odd guilds are raiding 2 months into the game. Which is AT MAX 4.000 people (assuming every guild is prepped for 40-mans, which is 100% false, only very few are). A lot of WoW guilds never came to Wildstar, and the lack of a decent PvP balance kept the PvP crowd away.
The game does NOT have enough side activities, it is not nearly as polished as other games (WoW included, given that it has had enough time to add content). Housing is sort of fun, but requires heaps and heaps of money, and is not that polished anyway. There is no system to trade custom housing designs and such, and most of the money spent by the community on housing is to farm stuff.
In the words of my guild's farmer, the only reason non-raiders would play this game is because of CREDD, so that they can play for free forever. I have fun raiding, but to be honest, that's all I do really.
And HAH to the "drop requirements"...if u cannot do Veteran Dungeons at Silver level, you will fail HARD at raids. It won't even be funny.

How many times must this be said before people see the folly in it? I see this response in every forum for games that have a high degree of players leaving. What has happened in most of those cases?
IF you like a game why would you want people to leave? This isn't a heroic scenario of going down with the boat, it's being stubborn and not seeing the forest for the trees.
I would certainly hope for their own sake Carbine is more forward thinking and logical.

I have no issues with this comment at all. I really like the base of Wildstar. The combat is fun and fluid, the customization is awesome, housing is amazeballs, the difficulty of the dungeons is off the chain and refreshing, adventures....well...OK...i HATE adventures.
Still, I wouldn't mind if it died. Like a huge michael bay explosion of a death. Why? To teach a lesson to the no-lifers. Stop killing good MMO games with petty high-school cliche politics.
I want them to finally see the obvious historical trends and when the next developer pulls this same nonsense, i want them to say "NO...this time we are going to stop the wishful thinking and work with the 'casuals' to keep this game alive"
But...I should just STFU and not let the door hit me...Wildstar is going to do gangbusters. They sold millions out the door and the servers are always at full capacity. Their forums aren't a cesspool of toxicity and no major course directionis have been needed within the first 2 months because of poor decision making (i.e. silver adventures and now RNG itemization) and NCSoft, a company that loves to boast about amazing numbers, came out the other day and just would. not. shut. up. about the subscription numbers for Wildstar. Don't get me started on PvP. Move over LoL; there is a new top dog and it's name is Wildstar!
The balance: perfection
The Warplots: have you seen them?!?! no seriously....where are they? Has anyone seen them?
I heard they are opening 3 new PVP servers because this game is now a mecca for PVP players. In no way at all are they completely fed up and running for the hills......none at all.....don't go to the PVP subsection of their forums. DON'T!

No apologies needed, I understand your point and I agree, and I will be one of those yelling for content as well if there were no other games out there. I say let time prove who is right, IMHO I think that there is room for casual and hardcore in any single game out there, the devs took a gamble and bet on hardcore, once hardcore have consumed the content well maybe the devs will see the folly of their gamble. But for now let the hardcore enjoy the game, you know what is the best benefit of it?-------->
Hardcore will learn all the ins and outs of the raids, dungeons, etc and they will post videos on you tube for us the no-hardcore crow to enjoy and learn.
Either the game is good or its not. If its good, it will find players, if its not people won't play. If you have a huge extended beta where you let people play free and can't sustain a population, then something isn't right. Could be the game, payment model, ect. Figure out whats wrong and fix it, unless the game is bad, and while I don't play WS and won't play it again, for the faults I had with it, the game isn't bad.

Nothing to see here folks...move along.
Thanks for not slating me. I would say that on my server (can't remember which one) it was far from full two weeks in and the Wildstar forums at that time were toxic.
Now admittedly that was during the free month when those people who do not like the mechanics are choosing to leave, but the reaction to some considered and insightful posts regarding the reasons for leaving were just painful to read. They were full of misplaced venom.
Anyway, as I said, I do not much care for GW2, I find it shallow and I simply cannot find any immersion; however, I appreciate the jump in dynamic quests. WS- it does nothing, simply nothing for the genre.
Wildstar needs to be saved already? News to me. While I don't play it, all the impressions I've received led me to believe the game was doing well.
It's doing okay. Population is far too low on some servers already is the major issue, along with FPS issues and bug fixes that aren't being handled quickly enough. It's not a bad game, it just suffers from focusing too much on one aspect of the game and that is driving players away in droves at the moment.
I do think it's fixable, and Carbine has every chance to get WildStar back on track.
Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV Have played: You name it If you mention rose tinted glasses, you better be referring to Mitch Hedberg.
Where are the "low population" figures coming from anyway? I haven't seen any population numbers at any point. The server I play on is always busy and things are always happening, pugs and attunement groups are not hard to find, including pugging the 20 man raid. And I play on the supposedly less populated Dominion faction.
I don't like ESO, but I'm not on their forum talking about how the game needs to change in order for me to like it. If I don't like a game, I put it down and leave it alone. I don't understand why you guys pay THIS much attention to something you don't care about.

I'm surprised that WoW doesn't have at least one Vanialla/TBC legacy server so people can go and remember how fun all that b.s. was.

Did they ever get to optimizing the game? Didn't buy it due to less than 30 fps running around solo.
Would consider it if the box price was reduced and the game ran like every other MMO out there.
Well if it dies, it dies... why would you care... it's not your type of game to begin with...
Another fix this game or I will leave guy... well, the door is, well, you know, over there... leave if you want to leave.

Framerate issues still plague a lot of higher end users last I heard. I haven't actually played in 2 weeks now, so take from that what you will. The first content drop actually added more problems, but I won't get into that here.

DON'T!
Nothing to see here folks...move along.
