I had it preordered for PS4, but just wasn't impressed by the beta. It was simply a generic shooter with forced multiplayer. No better than any of the previous Bungie entries, no worse I guess. So take that as you will, but it definitely isn't groundbreaking. And that was disappointing for me.

The Story campain seems to be short (by rumors, as I haven't progressed far in story yet), but they seem to have focussed more on replayability and longitivity with all the exploration and collectables.
Which is a huge plus in my book! A smart move to me. As story campains you finish in general pretty quick and with the Halo games, much like all other games, all that was left is killing eachother in a handful PVP maps.

Explain? I'm interested to hear why you feel this is "generic". I'm pretty sure they didn't say they were creating a new genre. I am pretty sure that if you're an FPS there are still pretty strict, set, standards that you're going to adhere to. I find it funny how people refuse to look at more than just the surface level of a game. Honestly, it's like, "This isn't a change at all! There are people with guns, and they shoot at things..... what a rip off! I've been lied to!"
Well, if you want to see games, which bring nothing new, borrow some stuff from other games, try to sell this as the new sh.t. and hide it behind tons of advertisement and paid reviewer money, then go and buy Destiny.
True, but is there really any thing more they can do with a shooter / mmo other than reskin it. I think all the ideas have been exhausted in one form or another. Without some major tech advancements, we wont see any major changes in gaming. Just the borrow from here and there and add a new skin. Still doesnt make a bad game. Destiny is fun. Just dont ever expect anything thats just going to wow you anytime soon.

If you are comparing it to Halo say then the difference is mmo and rpg features.
If you are comparing it to TESO say then the difference is $15 a month.
I'm confused is this an mmo? And its a ps3 or 4 game right? All i can think of is the lousy halo port to pc when i think of Bungie too. I think the hype is that it is Bungie.
I think the concept and graphics look really, really good but I think it would have been better if it was a 3rd person / over the shoulder type game play. This could have given the Gears games a run for its money. Ill pass.

If you play the game, then you'll understand why it's in first person.
If you want to see your character in Third person. Go to the Tower. There it switches to 3rd person.

I have too many FPS to play on PC and console.. Just saying I think the game could have been soo much more attractive if it was 3rd. PS doesnt have a Gears game and this could have been it.

Gotta love that so many state things like "after 2 months:yaddayaddayadda" and then act as though it's over for a game, because the launch masses moved on... Are these people MMO gamers at all?> OR do they just follow the flock?

I agree Distopia, I played Halo 3 for years, I never even looked at another game while I enjoyed my time in H3. Destiny feels like Halo in a world with more depth, no it doesn't have "mmorpg" depth, but it does have high replay ability and I can promise you Bungie will only make this game better and better and better, that's been their track record with everything they touch, most of us are not used to seeing development we can rely on.
Unless I have missed a take-over announcement Bungie are not a part of the "Blizzard" team. And given everything that happened with Infinity Ward I am absolutely sure they will be taking no development help at all from Activision. Bungie have a deal to deliver the first 4 episodes.
Missing stuff? Anything but poor planning imo. They decided what they wanted to do - the core stuff - and delivered it less than 2.5 years after signing the deal with Activision. We may lament the missing stuff but that is a different debate.

For a subscription based game though more often than not it is over for the game. Different dynamic when the game has no sub. And with no sub people have no reason to "rush through all the content in 30 days".
I watched a couple of streams since yesterday and all i saw was a rather shallow game.
-people fighting the same packs of mobs in the same way on various small maps
-people being in the same questhub to get missions (?) to enter said maps
-people pvp'ed (yawn...)
Maybe the channels i watched weren't too advanced as the game just went live, but to me it looked like everyone's activity consisted of doing the very same stuff all the time, just on different maps.
I wonder how being able to sit, dance or upgrade weapons makes this game an RPG and i also did not see an "open" world at all. Maybe for the console gamers who only know shooters and never played an rpg this is the shiz.

If you think Destiny is groundbreaking, I've got a few titles to introduce you to... Killzone did "helper robot" better. It could not only hack, but teleport into groups of enemies to lay support fire, release EMP pulses to disable security systems and robots, and lay down a shield for protection. What does Destiny's robot do? Oh, GPS. Which Killzone's system also provided.
The powers system is basically a bunch of passive buff and mechanics upgrades with a few "Ultimates" thrown in. Bioshock did the gunplay/power combo better, and it was released a long time ago. Nothing revolutionary there. You leveled your powers up and equipped new weapons in Bioshock, just like here. They added in armor.. But Borderlands already had such systems in place with its shield/health system. Bungie just separated the pieces into arms, legs, chest, etc. Definitely not brand spankin' new in the world of shooters.
The AI? Nothing innovative there. In fact, the boss battles (unless they've been improved drastically since open beta) are nothing more than memorizing 3-4 attack sequences. After that initial 45 seconds, it's predictable duck and fire for another 10 minutes because Bungie thought difficulty equals huge HP pool for bosses. No major improvements in AI over Bungie's Halo titles.
I played the game in open beta as much as my free time allowed. I am not looking at just the surface; I spent hours to try and get a feel for what's what. I played solo, random world events, and Fireteams. Nothing impressed me. If you're going to make promises to revolutionize a genre, you better damn well deliver on more than just forced multiplayer through randomly spawning players into the same instance of a PvE map:

What you saw on the streams are people rushing through the story missions, completely ignoring Exploration and bounties. /sigh
The Story missions lead into "spawn restricted" phase instances, where you have to complete sertain objectives.
When you start picking up bounties (from Level 4) you can enter the map in Exploration mode and have the entire map With dozens of pick up missions scattered around at your disposal. The maps are huge in exploration mode. Then it's basically open world, where you run into other players.

How big are the maps? Are they as big as a WoW zone? 3 times the size? 1/2 the size?
fun fact no ps or xbox game will ever last long when the system cost $400 no kids can aford that and 2/3 parents dont buy game systems for there kids till x-mas no system games take off till the system gos down in price thats what happined to halo diablo final fantasy and so on destiny will last mabey a month or 2 then die bungie has never been good at making games people liked halo lasted 4 years the lost over 3/4 of the player base now everyone that played a bungie game plays cod the most played game on the planet currently

I guess you like to answer your own questions?
Then I guess you should have stopped playing games 10 years ago? Cause basically what we had 10 years is the exact same crap as we have now?
And please don't start with the nostalgia talk about some ancient game which looked like a pile of crap, full of squares and triangles.

Destiny's Destiny?
I say overpriced expansions 2 weeks after launch on yet another IMO boring MMO shooter.

What's boss fights like? It takes a long time. Shoot. Cover, kill spawns, Shoot. cover. Every boss fight. At least they drop great loot..
What's pvp like? Well there is auto-target and you can bring in the purple gear you grinded for, so not skilled based.
Is it open world? Nope.
Its not awful, but it offers nothing new.

And I quote Bungie: "Not to sound arrogant, but Halo changed the way you played shooters on consoles forever. And now, we kind of think we're taking that next big step in shooters." The only step they took was shared world. I submit, and take this as you like, that Destiny will not take any bigger a step than Tom Clancy's Division has/will. It's shared world and... That's about it for innovation.
I think you need to pay more attention to School.
The first expansion (DLC) is announced for December. How is that 2 weeks from now? /shrug
