And the majority of players like me are playing away having a great time. While a small vocal minority are spamming the forums (your 1000s of post) crying and whining because they can't play a VIDEO GAME for a day or two. They then proceed with the go to crying and whining tops:
Demanding a refund (you would get a whopping $1 for your time lost so far )
Threaenting to quit ( if you were going to quit because you can't get in for a day, you weren't sticking around anyways)
Petitions lol these are so cute
suing...I wish one of these entitled snobs would follow through with this. It would be priceless to watch a judge and lawyers laugh them out of court and on their way out Blizzard would be like oh by the way here is our counter suit for our legal fees enjoy.
Go outside take a deep breath and I promise the sun will come tomorrow and WoW will still be there...
according the several news sources - the DDOS has been over for hours. The "character not found" issue began after their 6 hour extended maintenance today. So seems to me they broke something - and this would appear to be backed up by the fact they are doing ANOTHER 6 hour extended maintenance tomorrow (Saturday).
The DDOS may have impacted queue times and created latency etc. but I don't see it being responsible for what appears to be a database table lookup failure.
You know, one of the most striking revelations that I experienced from my recent foray into single player games was that when you buy a highly anticipated single player game, you can actually go home and play it day one. You aren't having to sit in login queues and you really don't even have to sort through massive amounts of bugs and performance problems (unless you're playing Assassin's Creed Unity).
World of Warcraft is one of the most popular games on the planet. This isn't like an expansion for EverQuest II where 3,000 more players might populate the servers for a couple months. Millions have purchased Warlords of Draenor as millions do any time WoW releases an expansion.
If anything, Blizzard's handling of the Diablo 3 launch disaster should show all of us that they're not interested in the consumer as much as they're interested in the dollars they can suck from us. They know there's no point in guarding against a DDoS attack (as those have occurred across several MMOs recently) or upgrading server infrastructure because in about a week or so, when the hype dies down, anger will subside and we'll continue to fork over our money to grind away like hamsters on a treadmill.

What I thought too...and should include AO...the original WoW launch, so many more
AO was completely atrocious. WoW original was literally months of issues. I started Jan of '05 and there still was massive lag spikes, broken gathering nodes and loot locking all over.
WoD isn't a smooth launch, but it is by far not the worst in history, let alone Blizzard history.

I've always been amused by how things like this impact people differently. My wife and I play on the same server, but have had very different experiences. She has been playing all day, while I have had lots of problems. We logged in originally at the same time this morning, but eventually I got disconnected, and then hit with the "character not found" problem. She has yet to be disconnected. They did fix the "character not found" problem (at least whatever was causing it for me), but she has had no problems at all, and has played 3x longer. She has been laughing at me.

Well since you seem to have all the answers why dont you just give them a call tell them how perfect you are and fly out to Blizzard and make everything ok?
Or you can just relax wait a few days and play...but im sure people like you will be complaining in about a month or two there is not enough content...
And during the next xpac you will be back complaining about log in issues....its a never ending cycle with those who cry about mmos during new launches or xpac launches.
I'm puzzled by your apparent cluelessness. First off this is isn't a launch its an expansion. Second, they are being freaking DDOS'ed, big time. This explains all the problems in your post.
Its like complaining your getting bad service at a restaurant while an arson fire is blazing away.
Oddly the web status on blizzard page for realms shows a much different view of actual in game issues. Some on the web page are low, full medium. In game every single one of the US servers are locked? Jeez. They mentioned lowering some ques but all of them? Can't play guess I will get some much needed rest.
If you think this is there worse launch ever, you either 1) must be new and never played WoW at vanilla launch or 2) just exaggerate much for the attention.
Calm down. Being DDOS'd is not something they ASKED for.
ROFL they say this every time you don't really fall for this crap about DDOS do you they fooked up BIG style and they got your money they don't give a hoot! They have poorly implemented this big time and if they really cared about their player base would of done far more testing and thought about the bottle neck they created when people start in starter zones.

I'd add that every time there is a bad launch, for any game, someone inexorably touts how WoW vanilla launch was worse. It was bad, but this time we're not talking about some other company or some other game. We're talking right now about that BLIZZARD which had that bad vanilla release, and the more you argue it was worse in the past, you're condemning them of impotence to correct past mistakes. Sure it was bad then, but this is now, and this is the same company, so why aren't they doing better?
No WoWs launch back in 2004 was way worse. They handed out so much free game time from server down time I had about 3 weeks free game time. By far was the worse launch of any MMO I have played in 15 years. Mind you, being in Q tonight for 1hr and still says 1hr to go to get in, is not fun lol but a Q is better then server down time lol

That's what "they all say? Who is "they"? The companies being DDOS'ed? Ya your right they do say that when its happening to them. Apparently you know little about it, or little about the mitigation process and the tangled web of processes they have to leave in place with their ISP's to prevent further attacks. The prevention measures create networking problems of their own and it will affect game play even after the DDOS attacks are over.
Blizzard is far from a joke dude, they are a muti billion dollar company that will do everything possible to protect their IP and deliver the best experience possible. They didn't build their company making crappy disposable games. I think you have them confused with someone else. Claiming WOW is a cash grab is just pardon my French, pure ignorance.

Yeah, I was thinking of it and it made me think of TBC. The more I thought of it thouhg, this launch is WORST then TBC. Hands down its one of the worst launches I've ever seen in an MMo EVER. Its pretty pathetic. Sadly, its something I worried of as WoD beta wasn't the most stable as it is. Its just really pathetic when blizzard is charging so much money for their damn expansion on top of a monthly sub, ontop of having one of the most disgusting cash shops out there, and they botch up launch so badly.
I almost think blizzard WANTS wow to die. I have no clue why, but just how carelessly it was done it makes me feel like they just don't give a shit about the MMO marketplace anymore and want to throw in the towel. Then again maybe its just me not wanting to believe an established devleoper with an MMo EXPANSION is being shown up by NEW MMOs in having vastly better launches with far less issues. Did I forget to mention they were NEW MMOS not ESTABLISHED where the framework is up, tried, and tested fully.
Its really facepalm worthy. Some problems are expected. This level of incompetence is just inexcusable.

ah look, we got someone from the official launch comitee here.
sorry to tell ya bro, but the lags on classic release were worse.
20 mins lag. people got disconnected too....
but yea i know, minds tend to forget

I guess you think DDoS attacks are their fault and fall under the "poor service" portion of your post.
Get a grip man and accept that other people can and often screw things up for everyone.

LOL, this may have been the worst launch expansion wise for sure but ever?
Im not even sure this is worse then TBC's launch which was a far cry from smooth, servers were crashing before the dark portal even opened.
WoW's launch back in 04/05 (depending on location) was a disaster in comparison to this slight bit of lag, login queue and off peak downtime.
What I thought too...and should include AO...the original WoW launch, so many more

Nope....Vanilla WoW had server crashes for 9 months at launch.
That was when we use to get bonus time added to accounts and a sorry.
Just chill.
lol, please go
