Only a fool would spend money in AA, you can get everything for free ! Just do some research, some of the hacks and exploits have been in the game for years...
Any game that lets you get currency with your wallet is pay to win. Yes, that includes Eve, although the way skill gain works it does mitigate that a bit. It's still horrid, though. A sad joke that is blighting MMOs left and right.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

While Even is technically pay-to-win, due to the fact that nearly everything there is destructable besides the skills (which aren't really pay-to-win, as you've stated, barring breaking the ToS by buying accounts)it's also pay-to-lose-big in some ways, which arguably makes the game more fun.
I've come to realize that in the end, the semantics of pay-to-win aren't really relevant. What's relevant is if the monetization system hurts the game, which, as we know from R2's presentation (and first hand experience if you've been around enough), is usually the case with anything that has significant pay-to-advantage (what most of us refer to as pay-to-win, but again, the semantics don't really matter), but in Eve, it iarguably enhances gameplay sometimes because it instead adds the hilarious moments where you can cost a guy thousands of bucks by blowing up their ship.

I know Eve is the least offensive, but it still offends me. There was a hysterical RP-ish piece someone did lampooning it that I wish I could find again that sums up the ridiculousness perfectly. It was from the POV of an interview with a galactic trader trying to explain how he got his start with a burger flipping job in an alternate universe.

Only thing I bought was the founders pack to get into Alpha and Headstart.

On Salphira, any piece of soon to be available land, and I mean any, has anywhere from 5-50 people trying to grab it at the same time. So, yea, I'd say you're really lucky, or your server isn't as crazy. I gave up after I tried and failed a dozen times or so trying to drop my 16x16.

How does it feel to "lose" AA, according to most posters you clearly have been crushed.
I'm wondering what there really is to win or lose in AA, I know the way I would play the game there isn't much.
I'm one of the few people who voted no in the poll, I find the hacking situation to be of much greater concern and what keeps me from actually playing right now.

He didn't mention his gear.
Most of the P2W/advantage elements in Archeage don't have anything to particularly do with land, anyways. Well, at least, not while Tax Certs are cheap.
......doesn't seem like they're very cheap these days, though. I've now seen posts by people worrying about affording their taxes because tax cert prices have risen (though that might be a good thing. Land hoarding hurts the game). Admittingly, since no one can use the marketplace and all this hacking, duping, bannings (both legitimate and not), and everything else is going on, AA isn't pay-to-win right now so much as can't-pay-and-everyone-loses. Or can't-pay-and-can't-play (no labor). Seeing tons of people on the forums now complaining that they've run out of labor because their new shiny land/wagon/fishing boat used it up so quickly and labor potions are through the roof on prices. Although they've kinda been drowned out by the bigger issues facing the game (hacking, duping, Trion's "100% accurate" bannings for the latest exploit...)

I understand, if you are trying to be competitive gear wise, this might be an issue. I'm not, never was. Basically being a casual player I never have the best gear, and am always well below the leaders in any game, regardless whether they got their advantage through playing longer, or paying more, result is the same to me.
So in my case, none of it really makes much difference though the hacking does because it pemits people to earn unreasonable income which can drive up prices which would impact my game play.
I'd love to see the taxes on land go way up so it forced people to relinquish their control of some of it, so far I'm not reading about any servers having vast tracks of land land available especially in the safe zones.

Completely wrong. If the cash shop was only cosmetic, we wouldn't vote p2w. When the best gear is crafting and spending real money garners you a major advantage than those who don't, the game is most definitely p2w. Some may hop on the hater or fanboy bandwagon, but I think a lot of people can make an intelligent observation about the monetization of this game.
Bottom line, the cash shop has had a detrimental affect on the economy, land ownership, PvP and pretty much every other aspect on this game. For years this will be used as an example of a company's greed overpowering the care for maintaining the playerbase.

You are correct that I won't get the best gear as fast as a Duper or Hacker, but I make a steady enough income to get it pretty fast. Im a PvPer first so trust me I do all this stuff in game for one thing...my gear
The one thing ill say is that I wont spend money for gold or do anything else because usually once you have the best gear it doesn't have the longest shelf life...meaning you will have to spend more money to keep up.....I like being able to upgrade and not spending a dime of real money to do so
Originally posted by DMKano If ArcheAge is p2w than all games are p2w. In WoW you can buy a high level character - doesn't that give you an advantage over those that didn't pay and start at level 1? Everything in AA cash shop can be bough for via gold in game - this includes cash shop credits, you can buy those with gold too.
It's an apples and oranges scenario. They're both fruits but they're nothing alike... In WoW, you can pay for a 90 which will land you with a 90 and below average green gear which you can do pretty much nothing with other than get carried in heroics (due to new stat squish).
You forgot to mention the fact that everyone who buys WoD also gets a free 90, therefore no one gets an advantage over anyone because everyone will have a 90 if they buy the expansion. The people who do not buy the expansion aren't really "winning" the game in the first place because they will not be reaching end game, so they can't really complain. ArchAge is a fun game but it has a lot to solve, including it's p2w aspect before it brings in more players (and for it to not lose its current playerbase).
I voted no, though it does share some P2W aspects....in my opinion.
This game is most certain Hack2win.
Glad I've continued to stay away from this one, even though it "looks" like an amazing game. It's very interesting to sit back and watch this story unfold.
This game was a mess long before it moved to the western world and everyone just put their blinders on. Fact: If you build a zoo with no locks on the cages, you will have a disaster on your hands.
I don't think AA is P2W, because most people cannot throw thousands of dollars at the game. But the bad code enabling various hacks has turned it into an exploiter's paradise, with most people looking for some kind of an edge just to keep up. I think that kind of mentality is very close to P2W.
LOL, at this point, it's all moot. Whether it is or it isn't, you've either already played it and quit, haven't played it yet and never will, or still playing it... in which case you don't care one way or another.
Free to play with a Cash shop... ok I can work with that...
Add to that a subscription, and your still subjected to the limitations.. different story.
Subscribers pay monthly, they should NOT be subject to the labor throttle.
PVP oriented game with a cash shop that decreases their grind/time to obtain the best gear is a very poor design.
Ultimately AA is pretty good, A LOT of room for improvement, (So much grinding)
SUMMARY:?
Recommendation
You will enjoy even the most boring games if you play with like minded fun people who enjoy just the fact they are playing with each other.
Example:
Hasla = grind fest gathering tokens to buy very good weapons (Sad its the ony way to get weapons because crafting costs thousands)
I swore I would not grind the tokens for Tier 2 weapons. I actually have been collecting tokens with guildies and actually I have found it to be a pleasant social experience even with the insane repetition.
Find people you enjoy playing with and make the best of it. Or find a new game.

Now the game is just kind of sad.
Pay 2 Win, and Pay 2 Enjoy.
Also not worth playing anymore due to the mass amount of exploiters, and bugs in AA with no fix.
I tried AA for less than 24 hours didn't like at all glad I didn't buy a founders pack.
LOL, at this point, it's all moot. Whether it is or it isn't, you've either already played it and quit, haven't played it yet and never will, or still playing it... in which case you don't care one way or another.
The game is what it is. Accept it and move along.
Opinion:
Nothing new to discuss so we're beating this dead horse again?
