What I don't get is that the people who are claiming ESO players are spamming duplicated accounts honestly think that players from other games aren't passionate enough to do the same thing?

What also isn't factored are the sheer numbers of people who vote against ESO for the sake of voting against it.

People on this page can't honestly be that naive. If they're children then I'll understand but I'm sure most of us are mature adults.

Man all these months mmorpg.com looked like it was full of ESO hate. Turns out it's just a handful of haters. gg image

voted for ESO even though I am only lvl 31 and Hate the leveling proccess in it.. need to get to the pvp and see if it's as great as everyone claims it is..

@djevik I started on an alt a few days ago. Being a pvpr level is my biggest gripe atm. It's not so much that it's bad or even too long. I'll be v1 with 3 days /played. It's just that Cyrodiil is so much enjoyable. This makes the process feel like forever to me.

They say with 1.6 leveling in Cyrodiil will be equal with questing. We'll see...

    We're still here.

But in light of the comments from this site that multiaccount voting is a valid strategy to "win" the poll, and not making that comment untill several days had elapsed in which the debate soured and bad words were spoken some of the stronger personalities of the community have expressed severe dissatisfaction with this site and this pole and ave vowed to not participate further in this contest. Not as a statement against our fellow players of other games but as a statement about how certain parts of the tsw community feels that multiaccount voting is not cool, and that this site could have quelled a bad forum exchange if they had said at the start (rather than days later) that multivoting was allowed and a valid tactic.

Personally I feel that multivoting is cheating and in that regard I will only be voting on this one account. I voted for ESO and TSW as I honestly have never played EVE or LOTRO. But there is no doubt in my mind that both EVE and LOTRO are very fine games indeed.

The TSW community is still here and we are still awesome. And if you want to come play with us that would be very cool.

    Good luck to everyone!

We have never been very good at arguing on this site.

This is generally a home for people that at some point felt that the devs of their main game stopped caring about the game and started milking all the money out of it they could.  It leads to a pretty bitter group.  I know there have been times that games I loved were changed for the worse.

There may be some people here voting against games that let them down when they came out, without realizing how much better they have gotten since then.  There are others that hate games that are getting hyped, regardless of the source, because they have been burned before.  There is a large group here that hates whatever seems to be doing well because they are jaded with the entire genre.  Finally there are people that spend their days trolling because these forums are their real game.

Let's just pretend that crap flinging and tantruums are how we show we care.

I can say from trying it now that ESO does deserve the praise it is getting, it is drastically improved over launch and their devs are days from a PTR patch that enables stealing, pick pocketing, and killing NPCs  - with consequences of course.  Just the kind of stuff I see being requested by MMORPG.com sandbox fans all the time.

LoTRO obviously deserves credit.  When we first started playing everquest, we all thought "This would be amazing with Lord of The Rings."  Now that game exists, it has an open seamless world, and manages to have a large variety of classes (including one of my favorites to play in any MMO, the Warden) without breaking lore.  Other games give in and start throwing lore out the window for more content, or just stop caring.  People do not even attempt seamless worlds any more (last was FFXIV 1.0, and it was removed for 2.0).

TSW has always been lauded on this site for having truly interesting quests, everyone seems to agree it has the best questing in any MMO.  On top of that it goes for a unique setting after many people here are burned out on Fantasy/Sci fi.  It has always been one of the most praised games on this site for doing so many of the things people had been wanting.  Modern weaponry and ancient magic in a horror themed MMORPG with story-driven content and no sub fee?  Yes please.

EvE is an MMORPG legend, the only game to continuously grow for 10 years.  It is the most complex MMORPG I have played, and is completely engrossing to the point where your work and real life starts to just be "time away from EvE."  We have all read about vessels that were caught carrying in game goods of incredible value (usually translated into dollars, which is easy to do with EvE's plex system), and how an impromptu fleet hunted them down and destroyed them just...because.  Most of the time when I see those stories, the pilot that was the victim is a good sport about it too - saying things like "That is what I get for carrying so much" or "good for them, they earned it."  Truly a unique and incredible game.

The cheating accusations and the "this game does not deserve to win" crap is getting ridiculous.  You can care about your main game and not go out of your way to feel somehow offended by another.  I know that people can get very connected to their game of choice when they love their community, make a commitment to keep supporting the devs , and dedicate almost all their free time to it, but enough is enough.  People here spending their time hating on one of these games need to step back and think about trying them (again) instead.  These are great games, and us being relentlessly bitter will keep us from enjoying them.

TLDR: quit your bitchin thank goodness there are still good MMORPGs left play.

ESO even though half finished is already the best MMO in its 1st year.

ESO rebounded in the end of 2014 nicely, and is terrifyingly growing at the moment. By the end of 2015 I except them to take over West Market.

There aren't many in front anymore, WoW probably doing the best with 2.5-3mil subs in the West. Though they are bleeding subs left and right, the time has come.

ESO has been a fantastic experience so far. I vowed to never pay for a subscription game after I left World of Warcraft. I just didn't think I could invest the time to complete "dailys" to get full weekly points. So why pay monthly for that. But...ESO has been a true blessing. It's fun to take your own pace. The quests are engaging. Dungeons are fun. And you can do whatever you want to with your character-tank,dps, or heal. I'm partial to healing :)

I started in April, and only have one max level toon (V14 Templar) and I just love the class.  But I am now leveling a new character and really enjoying all the new players. So many! You see them all over. And it's fun to give them a helping hand. The ESO community is wonderful. Just so warm and friendly, it really is refreshing! Hope it stays this way!

Frankly, I'm getting a little tired of the way people keep misrepresenting what's being said, and the thinly veiled insults are getting old.  Let me lay it out clearly:

    1. Gratz to ESO -- happy the game won, and it looks great, and there are obviously many passionate fans.  I am eager to try it myself.
    2. I don't care that people are spamming votes.  If it's legal, great, though I wish the site had made that a bit more clear at the outset
    3. I DO care when community people (and yes, ESO folks started this) throw a public hissy accusing TSW of multi-vote TSW "cheating," then turn around and say "it's okay, everyone does it," and THEN proceed to brag and flaunt how much they multi-voted.  It's annoying and hypocritical.

At this point, it's all good, and everyone understands the parameters.  Best luck to everyone -- I do think some good games are here in the final and we have lots of great choices.  Enjoy!

I really enjoyed LOTRO before it became FTP and they made it ridiculously too solo. It was a beautiful huge world with sub par animations that did improve a little over time. It still IMO stronger than ESO in the side things to do/RPP/role playing aspect. However overall, ESO just has so much more to offer and ESO's PVP is obviously a lot better than LOTRO Monster play. Also, ESO..even though it is still somewhat linear, is a lot less hub based than LOTRO and rewards more for exploring. I like the combat better in ESO as well. Overall, ESO is just a stronger game but LOTRO will always be in A in my books. ESO gets my vote...by a little.

    There Is Always Hope!

You shouldn't wait. By level 31 you should have a build that is well-rounded enough and competitive. The "under 50" campaign is very active and a lot of fun with everyone having similar stats - it's a pretty even playing field. Actually, more even than the veteran or open campaigns where stats are not equalized and fully geared VR14s are quite a bit more powerful than brand new VR1s

Level 10, when you're first eligible to go there is a bit too soon, IMHO, for anything other than doing the two quick tutorials that will get you 2 skill points and maybe just having a look at the place. You do get bolstered to 50 just like everyone else but you're missing way too many abilities (not to mention weapon swapping) to be competitive. Healers that plan to stay grouped, can get away with going at level 10 because the heals they get early are still useful, but anyone else will be pretty gimped compared to people in their 30s and up.

You won't level as fast there, but if you're not in a rush, it's definitely worth it.

    @TalulaRose

Oh snap! So is this a primogeniture voting system? I fail to see where it says that. Sorry mate but do you want to know the real reason I don't post on this site usually? Because I only got this account for some giveaways and am occasionally reading news here and take part in some polls (rather anonymously).

My votes? EVE and ESO on the finals because ESO is clearly the most developing MMO with an already awesome base game model - and EVE has brought a new subcategory of MMOs to the world and it's clearly an epic game, eventhough I do not like it on  a personal level (space combat did it for me). That however doesn't take away from its quality in general, same goes for ESO with some minor issues - it remains my personal champion of the MMOs (and I'm a '99 veteran, nearing year 16 of the MMO gaming ;) )

Cheers and a happy New Year everyone, except the photoshopping wannabe punks.

i find it ironic that this site basically exists to provide news critiques and actual polls of popularity...

so if i navigate to the home page im told that today for eg. FFXIV is the most popular game, ESO 3rd.

TSW appears at 10th at the 6 month mark but Lotro is nowhere to be seen...

ESO has had the most hits (6,425,921 Unique Hits) on this site over the entire year. lol, thats ALOT of haters.

since this whole silly debate is over "popularity", which poll are we supposed to follow here?

also note that the casual browser may use the homepage poll more often than delving into the stink of forums. either the "unique hits" (wondering how many of those hits are obsessed haters, in which case.. thanks!) have it and the winner was already announced or the "great mmo face-off" is a farce. successful farce but a farce just the same.

I assume you are refering to the various login messages about the vote on the launchers?

Very early in the vote the author of this vote very clearly stated that developer encouragement of participation in the vote was perfectly valid provided there were no rewards for participation. Late in the previous round both ESO and TSW added messages informing their players about the vote to their respective launchers. And that is fine. This vote is just a bit of goodnatured fun. Everything that has been put forth as "cheating" has been cleared by the author of this poll as valid and legitimate tactics and allowed. The only thing that has been expressly stated as not allowed is for devs to incite participation by promising rewards for participation. The passion shown by certain participants of the vote just illustrates how strongly they feel about their game. And if a game can elicit this kind of intense emotional response then there should at least be some merit to the artistic accomplishment of that game. If the game didn't give the player that certain something then there would be no emotional engagement in how the game does in a "for fun" voting contest. The critiscm of this "contest" should be towards the hosters of the contest and my personal critiscm is that they did not at an early stage clear up what was allowed and what was not allowed. If it had been stated early on that what was called "cheating" was in fact allowed by this site then we could have avoided page up and page down of back and forth sourbellied bickering. But lets not focus on the negative.

It's new Years Eve and I would very much like to wish everyone a most Happy New Year!

The 1st of  Morning Star marks the beginning of the New Life Festival, which takes place across all of Tamriel in celebration of the new year. The Emperer usually uses his New Life Address to instigate another tax increase which often causes much resentment. Despite this, the New Life tradition of free ale at all of the taverns of Tamriel continues.

Happy New years to you and yours and TSW.  No more taxes just more fun!

    From ESO subscriber with love.

Yeah, ESO is a great game until you realized their staff lied to you early on. Where the imperial city? Still not ingame? What about all those arena modes we were promised? This is why companies never take us players seriously anymore. Zenimax will continue to walk all over you guys. Unless of course you're just pve'ers then by all means you got a great game.
