"They talked about Star Citizen because the whole Serek Dmart thing made it over here too and the guys jumped at the chance to ask an actual insider about his opinion. The consultant was very polite (he wants to keep working in the industry after all) yet managed to state in very polite terms that what Chris Roberts has planned for Star Citizen is utterly impossible"

I really do wish CR would release the game soon so we can put this all to bed once and for all. Just who can we believe, the more I research this game the more I read about it just can't be done. This is sad and really hard to believe.

Right now the counter is showing $93,717,441 funds raised. Do they also update the counter in opposite direction when someone asks for a refund? The real amount of raised funds is obviously lower if the counter doesn't show refunds, but by how much?

My guess would be no, they hate any kind of negativity toward CR and his game (ok company I still see no real game).

I thought it was a given that Star citizen is being planned for a 2017 release day and that it's being created with constant funding as a given.

By 2017 this game would of made 150million+ easy

Exactly, they keep attacking Smart when the whole point has nothing really to do with Smart. It is all about how much money has been wasted and there is still no actual game.

There's certainly the historical evidence from Digital Anvil and Strike Commander.

And there's the issue that the complaints leaking out now are pretty much the same as what I've heard from folks who worked with him in the Origin days.  Roberts is not a good project manager.  Surrounds himself with sycophants and brown nosers.  Unreasonably arrogant.  Disliked by pretty much everyone who worked with him.

Unfortunately there are too many folks who just look at the name on the box and go 'The Super Genious is back!'  You backers had better continue to support him to the tune of 2.5 to 3 mil a month, just to keep the cash flow steady.  And even then you probably won't get near the game you expect, because that's a Chris Roberts hallmark as well.

Seriously, I wonder if Blizzard would have had to put up with this shit during their 5+ year development cycle for World of Warcraft if they employed open development.

SC doesn't have a finished game. But all of the gameplay demos I've seen...the level of integration and complexity that has already been achieved....I see no reason to give CIG crap. But still, people are yelling the Sky is Falling. Nothing else to do, i guess.

Really, the guy would have skipped town by now if there was nothing behind the curtain. and with that much money, we'd never find him again.

Blizzard had relatively competent developers, an established project management structure, and had made a game or two in the previous 15 years.

Roberts isn't about skipping town with the money.  He's not that kind of crook.  He's about feeding his ever voracious ego.

Really? Comparing Roberts to the people at Blizzard? OK now i see how you guys think, I really hope he comes around and makes the game you think he will. But you better open those wallets and have sense to wait 3 or 4 more years. But when he does take that long do NOT be shocked when the game may not be what you guys expected.

Good luck am done and will just sit back and watch!

    You promise?

Because honestly these SC threads are getting a tad bit redundant.

Let's just wait for actual info to come out, not some "I listened to some random German podcast where a random game developer said X" post.

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

With SC, I think there have been some very real and honest concerns over the scope of the project for some time now. It always seemed a big ask for the budget... even $90m.

I would like the game to be good, and representative of the KS goals... but at this stage I am assuming the game has been over-sold/ over-hyped, and there will be a lot of disappointed funders come release; Who knows though, I might be wrong.

So you wonder if Blizzard, the company that created the critically acclaimed and highly regarded Warcraft RTS series, the national eSport of Korea, redefined the ARPG, AND was building WoW with their own money . . . you wonder if they would have had to put up with the same level of scrutiny that Roberts, who made one well received game over a decade ago and has collected $90m from 1 million supporters, does?

Do you actually wonder that? Because you're comparing apples and belly button lint.

People put their money into SC, they're welcome to be concerned about the project. At the same time, Roberts does not have to provide anything to his donors.

There is really only one thing that matters in all this, and one of the reasons kickstarter is a real double-edged sword. MMO's have notoriously low player retention. But even being unreasonably generous and saying that 50% of backers will be happy with the final product and will want to stay after 3-6months, it's going to be a huge flame war in 2-3 years when this game comes out.

It's simply not possible to please everyone supporting your product, it will never happen. So basically, at this point, you're just hoping that whatever comes out the other end is something that you want to play.

If it was fully funded withe crowdfunded money, sure.  But it wouldn't be nearly as intense as they have a solid track record.  CiG is a brand new company and CR does not have a great track record.  They have a lot to prove.
