Will weapons sheath at your side or on your back when not in use? If so, will there be graphics for the sheaths or will the weapons just hang there?

I haven't seen any screenshots or videos with sheathed weapons, I really hope this will be in. It just bothers me when your weapon appears and then dissapears out of thin air, like in City of Heroes.

    Heldy,

In your post, I think the term "instance" is being confused with "area". As far as I've read from the interviews and the dev journals, instances will be where Quests are held. Otherwise, Towns, Cities, Common Hunt areas and Public Areas will be...well, common areas, not instances. So, if you pop into town, you're in town. Go talk to your friend Bob down the tavern. If you get asked by an NPC to slay an evil dragon and save the damsel, that's a quest and will be in an instance.

The only thing I can say on this subject is pretty vague, so be prepared.

"Anything" that involves performance of the game (both our end and your end) is being looked at and tweaked. If a better way is found (or made since it our engine) to do something, things are redone to make it happen.

Remember, that line about it being our engine. :)

And we are not heavily instanced.. Mainly, just the quests. Melissa has said it before. Think "along" the lines of CoH/CoV when it comes to this.

Only our quests are not the same thing over and over. (No offense to CoH/CoV, I respect what they've done)

If you see this type of body art or body mod on a character in a screenshot, you can do it to your character in game.

Our screenies are untouched other than the Hero's Journey logo added to them.

Hrm... I don't think I can answer this one. I looked on the videos as well for an example to try to share and didn't see it happening.

Since it hasn't been stated to the public by the onsite gang, I can not say one way or the other though. Even little details like this.

I'de swear we have video somewhere of one of them going from ranged to melee though. Anyone else seen that footage?

What Classes in this game will be able to Summon a Pet? And, what Classes will be able to tame a Pet?

Also, Is the game still on track for the Q2 2006 release? Any news on Beta?

I was just thinking about this. latest possible Q2 release date isn't all that far away and judging from the lack of pics and movies showing completed features and such, I'm wondering if it's going to make that window. The only screenshot of the GUI we've seen is still prototypical, no official movie has been released to show gameplay footage, there's been no word of beta, and last I saw the class list wasn't even 100% finalized. Has there been talk of pushing the release date back?

Ok, I finally read all 34 pages of this thread.  Most of my questions have already been answered, or atleast addressed.  I still have one more though:

    1.  Hair.  Like clothes, can this be modified as well?  I'd personally like to see a handlebar mustache, perhaps a little curly.  I'm guessing this won't be a default option.  Would I be able to make something like that with the mod tools?  Also, can you change your hair after you've already created your character (midgame) or is the style you select at the creation final?

Hello Mr Royce. I have a question about the GM positions. Do you have a rough idea of what percentage of off site GMs have past experience? I am trying to get a feel for my chances of getting a position. I would be in the percentage that has no applicable skills except for a proclivity for setting up quests, more like stories, and a fertile imagination. I just applied for a world and quest building spot.

    Thanks

GMs i want to know about cities. more specifically player made cities. it appears that this is not possible in HJ. what information do you have about this? if there was one wish for HJ it would be the ability to build a house anywhere you want. possibly group together and make your own city.

your instanced quests seem to be the main reason why this cant happen. the house would have to be redisplayed in the instanced quest.

do you know if Simu plans on offering any added versatility to house and building options in the future? what exactly is the nature of having your own house in this game? and what the heck would we want a private hunting ground for?

it looks like you guys are going to set aside places to build houses. how restricted are these areas? can a guild occupy castles and such?

since the engine is owned by you guys i expect to see nice changes along the way... anything like the hopes i have for the game possible in the future?

    Be one with it.

    1) There has been no official release regarding this information yet.

2a) As for 2006 release. That's the last official date, but I default back to "When it's ready."

2b) No beta dates have yet been released.

I'm sorry I couldn't give specific answers to any of these questions. But I'de rather you know that I am here and am reading each and every post on this topic. Even if my answers are not what you are looking for.

As for hair and mustaches. Yes they can be modified. Screenshots do show some of the various styles and options (but not nearly all of them)

Yes, you can change your hair if you desire. You will also have various "suits" you can equip at will.

    Hello Laoosaer. :)

    1) I'll say 60%, but I could be WAY off.

    2) Do not assume that because you have no experience in the MMORPG world, that you won't get a position. We love fresh ideas. And if you can tell a story via a quest... prove it. ;)

We all love a good story. It beats the "kill 10 rats" quests hands down.

    1) Yes there will be player cities. Here's a quote from Melissa Meyer.

    Socializing
Hero’s Journey’s cities, towns and villages will be located within common areas where players can meet, create hunting parties, exchange services, trade and socialize. However, instances will be used for player housing (instanced neighborhoods), as well as for Guild housing.

Quest areas are 100% different from player cities.

You won't be able to place a house "anywhere" you want. There will be an area that is specific for "your" clan/guild. All yours to do with what you want.

2a) Versatility in what way? Different houses? Different options for houses? Nothing has been released on this subject just yet.

2b) The nature of having your own house? Please go into more detail on this. It's too general to be specific about. As it sits I can only answer, Because you CAN have a house. A place to call home. A palce to put your feet up at night or decorate with variuous things.

2c) A private hunting ground would be for your clan/guild alone. No one else would be able to enter it without your approval and it would be a great way to train rookies. If that's not your thing, then just goto the common hunting grounds. It's your option to use.

3a) No infomation about the restrictions have been relased other than "It's your area".

3b) Guildhall/Castle information has not been released yet.

    4) Some of your hopes are already in place.  But yes, since it's our engire, we can modify it as the need arises. It's one of our strengths.

I got hired recently, for a world building gm position.. You don't have to have any experience, I don't have any game design or coding experience, but you do have to be determined to work hard.. and if something goes wrong you have to be able to bounce right back up and either fix it or start over.

Thank you for the fast response.

But no rest for the weary. My next question has to do with that great "IF" I get called to do my destined duty as an off site GM.

What in your opinion would be the best set up for a computer to utilize the world and quest building software to it's full potential?

Keep in mind that I still would want to use the same computer for gaming. So I would perfer to not have an intel build.

I am most interested obviously in CPU, GPU and MB chipset. A money is no object build keeping in mind the point of diminishing return. And keeping in mind that 940 chipsets are around the corner. So would it be wise in that instance to by the top of the line CPU based on 939, or take a lower level chip...

You get my point I hope. I do tend to ramble. But it is frustrating trying to sift through all the mess of info on the internet. I would be more inclined to take advice from a person that has actually used the kinds of tool and knows first hand what works better.

Okay I am done rambling. Except I would like to qualify that "money is no object" build spec comment. I want to know basically if buying the most high tech card and ramping down on the CPU or vice versa is the way to go. Or if the best of both or all three will actually make a difference in performance. If the top end everything is in your opinion worth investing in, then I am willing to invest. I do not have a problem with spending a little more money if the quality is there. And with a super computer build, in my opinion, you should get many years of great use. I have used an AMD 1700 CPU for 3 or more years, not good with remembering time frames. And would not even now consider a new computer except that I no longer own that computer. Still running fine it is just doing it for someone else. I still love my EXWIFE...

Okay I am really done now...except also recomend a monitor please. Wide screen or not. And what max resolutin,  in your opinion, should this monitor be capible of? I know you are going to say the  Apple or Dell 30 inch wide screen with a resolution of 2500 x 1600, or whatever it is. I think maybe something a little less than a 2 to 3000 dollar monitor would be okay by me. But it must have a great picture using as a gaming monitor.

    Thanks again.

    Oh PS,

Dual or single core processors? And dual or single video cards, ATI crossfire or Nvidia SLI?

    You hate me don't you?

  • LaoosaerLaoosaer Member Posts: 25

Great. You have made me feel a lot more optimistic about my chances. And that is saying something. I am normally the biggest pessimist you could ever have the misfortune to run across. If it can happen, and I mean bad things, it happens to me.

But I will keep a positive attitude and hope for the best. Thanks.

When I first found this site and these forums, about 4 days ago or so, I read from the first posts to the present. I remember seeing your posts asking Mr. Royce about getting a GM position. I am glad to see it happened for you. Mind me asking how long it took before they responded to your first application?

    Thanks

    Wow! heh.

I'm out of the loop when it comes to tech specs. My Dell XPS with the 9800 pro works great for all aspects of my gaming and HJ, so I've not followed it as close as I should.

Give me until tommorow to try to get one of the most brilliant people I know to answer this for you.

Hey HJ-Royce, just wondering if it will be possible to ambush people in the dark.  Where you wont see an enemy factions tag, and they will actualy be able to hide in bushes, and wait for oncomming parties to ambush!  Kind of a big question going on at Hero's Hall.

    *I truncated that a bit* :P

Don't wait for the next gen. Starting drivers for new hardware tend to be a bit flakey until the software you're using can catch up. Your performance when building can be skewed greatly by this, and things you thought were or were not FPS issues turn out to be the opposite. I'd stick with 1 or 2 gens behind and you shouldn't have any unknown performance issues. A lot of the GMs swear by their dual monitor setups though, so keep that in mind.

I'm actually using a system that could do with some serious upgrading. Nothing too drastically behind the curve, but I do crash if I've got too many asset repositories loaded into memory.

We've limited how much information that has been released about PvP so far... and that, I'm afraid, isn't one of them.

This is more along the lines of "stealth" mechanics and would apply to the entire game as a whole, not just in PvP.

    Good question though!

Working on development I find it useful to have the extra screen space. I'll have a lot of different documents and applications running when I'm working. heh, if not for logging into the game and doing other things I could probably get by on a much lower end machine too. :o

Speaking as a world builder I swear by my dual monitor setup and I think almost everyone on the world team has dual monitors.

I'm also loving my new Gateway 20" Widescreen

If I were building a new system and money was no object I'd go with dual core AMD 64's, 1 to 2 GB of the fastest RAM the system can support and a motherboard that can support SLI and at least one nVidia 7800, two if you can afford them. I just like the simplicity of SLI over ATI's Crossfire setup but I have to admit the performance on that X1900 sure is sweet.

Of course if money is truly no object then waiting a few months for the new Dell XPS 600 Renegade might be worth it. Two dual core pentium chips with quad SLI video cards :)
