Probably nothing, I'm sure like most big companies, Apple has a lot of little pet projects, most of which never see the light of day. Hardware that Apple may put out today, I don't think it's quite what they would have put out 5 years ago - not speaking technology-wise, it's just not quite the same.
And it's not like, I don't know, Apple could put a video card in a machine, or set a minimum specification of a certain video card. If anything, almost every Apple unit in the past 5 years has Thunderbolt, and there have been several different Thunderbolt GPU adapters (most recently by Razer).
The PS4 does pose an interesting problem, as there aren't really any high speed interfaces on the units.
