Sanya was always cool to everyone in DAOC and a lot of people had much respect for her. Was wondering what ever happened to her since most of the other big names in DAOC appeared more openly after mythic died.
Indeed. Before and after Dark Age of Camelot's launch, Sanya was the best CM in the business.
^ This.
@MarkJacobs She was with you guys up until right before Warhammer beta? I know she was gone once I took the GM position with you guys in 08'
It doesn't matter what gender a dev or gamer is to any real gamer.
What the heck is a "real gamer"?
According to most of the posts on this site I have nothing in common with most "gamers" other than I like to play "some" games.
The reason they have an article like this is because there aren't as many women in games as men. That means their is a discrepancy and it is one that is notable therefore why not talk about it?
I ask you this then, how normally you see females choosing exact sciences over anything else really?
during college we would see the newbies who was coming, we know half of then would quit before the end of the 1st year, computer science is not easy, its like learning a new language, and save for one or 2 females most would quit, if not quit would go pretty average over, but since they was females most guys would go out of they way to help then so they would get enough to pass
and for the blame, they blame everyone, but you know the most they say females are going more often for a industry and then the industry go well below what was the norm so years back....
also don't be so defensive, it don't help you in anything.
for the whole article it shouldn't matter if is male or female it should matter the place he is in is the place he worked to get there, not because its a female/gay/black/yellow/blue/hetero or whatever, the whole thing already tells me even teh writer don't belive woman can get there and when some does its a amazing feat, with really is not
Nothing defensive about my post, interesting that you would read it that way. Probably says more about you.
It was a legitimate question "what is a real gamer" because quite frankly I don't see any one real definition of "real gamer" though I do see a lot of negative stereotypes.
And as far as my statment your statement just supports it. So few women in certain fields "why not talk about it".

Women in "gaming" is only a thing these days because of games like candy crush.
Aside from that the majority of gamers on pc and consoles are still male by a massive margin, the numbers of females who play PC/console gaming is no bigger in real terms than it was 10 years ago.

i know you gotta miss that community mark there was nothing like it when you launched. Back then it wasn't about EGO and pushing out junk like today and people actually cared about the game trying to make it better. Sanya was the main one every time with the grab bag and pushing the community to have realm pride and care about the game, you just do not see that with any CMS anymore.
Been pretty quiet from Undead Labs since the cancellation of that mobile game. It's been FIVE years plus since they announced 'Class4'; their open-world survival zombie apocalypse 'online world game' for Xbox platform.

Maybe as a percentage they haven't grown, but in terms of numbers they certainly have.
Sanya is an amazing woman and a shining example to other community managers on how to exemplify the position. I've never encountered her personally but I have been part of many of the communities she's headed up. Thanks for all your hard work it hasn't gone unnoticed!
Also to the folks claiming there are more male gamers than female, pc/console/other, just "lol." Your data is really outdated.

Do you have "data" to say otherwise? There's almost certainly more male gamers than females, but really, who gives a shit? It's completely meaningless.
Butter...salt very bad for you. Grab some Yogurt and an apple. Then order a 12 slice with some wings. :pleased:
I wonder if many even read the article lmao,i got no indication of gender from the article, more of a biography of Sanya's life and passion.
Apparently the whole argument over gender with regard to this article is based ONLY on the title, not the content of the interview. Go figure.
There's a universal truth about women in gaming there somewhere

I remember Sanya fondly from those old VN board days. She's the only CM whose name has always stuck with me.

I swore, I SWORE I wasn't going to post, just sit and eat the popcorn with Bill. SWORE. I've been having this argument for fifteen years, and it's, well, BORING. Fifteen years of "where's your proof" while making unprovable assertions. A decade and a half of sweeping claims about all women are X while the speaker refuses to be lumped in with all men. Yawn. I haven't heard anything new since the time I was photoshopped onto a cow in the process of organic insemination for the high crime of saying that I enjoyed PVP. After that it's all been sort of anticlimactic.
But the community weenie in me has to clarify the quoted point or I'll die.
We announced that we _wanted_ to make it five years ago. What we actually made was Class3, aka State of Decay. We did not have a contract to make more SOD until January 2014. If you want, you can email me and I'll send links to all the gory details I've been allowed to post thus far.
If I'm ever allowed to talk about what I'm working on, I'd sure be grateful if you didn't invest it with five years of development time.
Oh, and hi, Mark!

I think I read an article actually that had more female gamers than male gamers and it was attributed to MMOs

Umm yes why should we extract something from the title, right?
Let me explain it to you: a title should convey the greatest amount of information in the smallest number of words.
So, apparently you prefer to stress out how important it is that they are women.
Next thing I suggest you to bring out the wage gap.

A quick google search will give you the results you are looking for but better yet if you have access to scholarly journals in related subjects I'm sure you can find the same info.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Almost like it didn't even need to be titled Women in Gaming. Could have just left that off and presented the talent and experience of an individual.
