Yep, people raised voices against it since months now. And now, even after the lawsuit MS only changed it from "no means yes" to "yeesh, ok, fine... no means no - BUT only for a few days, see ya later, maybe you'll be more reckless next time"
Now, the French data protection authority has ordered Microsoft to stop it.
France's National Data Protection Commission (CNIL) issued a formal notice on Wednesday, asking Microsoft to "stop collecting excessive data" as well as "tracking browsing by users without their consent."
The CNIL, Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés,
ordered Microsoft to comply with the French Data Protection Act within 3
months, and if fails, the commission will issue a sanction against the
company.
Moreover, the CNIL notified Microsoft that the company must also take "satisfactory measures to ensure the security and confidentiality" of its users' personal data.
The notice comes after a series of investigations between April and June
2016 by French authorities, revealing that Microsoft was still
transferring data to the United States under the "Safe Harbor" agreement that a European Court court invalidated in October last year.
Allegations on Windows 10
The CNIL's list of complaints about Windows 10 does not end there, as it goes on to read:
Microsoft is collecting data on "Windows app and Windows Store usage
data," along with monitoring apps its user's download and time spent on
each app, which according to the CNIL, is irrelevant and "excessive"
data collection.
Microsoft is also criticized for its lack of security, since there
is no limit set on the number of guesses for entering the four-digit PIN
used to protect your Microsoft account.
After Windows 10 installation, Microsoft also activates a user's
advertising ID by default, which enables Windows apps as well as other
third-party apps to monitor user browsing history and to offer targeted
ads "without obtaining users' consent."
Windows 10 does not give you any option to block cookies.
And as I mentioned above, Microsoft is transferring its users'
personal data to the United States under the "Safe Harbor" agreement.
In a statement,
the CNIL said: "It has been decided to make the formal notice public
due to, among other reasons, the seriousness of the breaches and the
number of individuals concerned (more than ten million Windows users on
French territory)."

The one OS I hated was Windows ME. I still have some older computers running win 3.1 I fire them up once in awhile for nostalgia reasons. Windows 10 is decent I haven't had any problems so far.
I haven't upgraded because 7 works well. It was the best windows OS ever and does everything except dx12. When I get a game that really makes use of dx12 in the coming years, I may consider 10, but until then I simply see no reason to upgrade.

But having a license key for Windows 7 Ultimate, I'll upgrade to Windows 10 Pro only to get my rights for an upgrade when Windows 7 will be on end-of-life (like XP was 2 years ago) so that I can upgrade if I really want to. Right now making a 100% bit-by-bit HDD backup of my Windows 7 install, after that an upgrade and immediate downgrade to Windows 7 (which for me is an upgrade ) afterwar
Next up will be installing my Windows 8.1 Pro on my Linux machine (test machine anyway so I don't care if I have to reinstall Linux afterward again) and make an upgrade to Windows 10 Pro there as well to save the upgrade rights later on as well...
"We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith that doing so is necessary to protect our customers or enforce the terms governing the use of the services", Microsoft said in its recently updated new terms of services agreement.
What more do you need to know? Nope, as long as that phrase above exists, it sucks.
It's one of these parts of the ToS that I don't like and with that don't understand that people switch to Windows 10 like lambs going to the slaughter. Okay, perhaps for the average user it's not a big deal, but it's your privacy that's on the line here.
And talking about privacy, lets take it a step further... Micro$oft is allowed to grab EVERYTHING from your PC, and what if you use that PC is used for work? You basically agree Micro$oft to do some corporate espionage here. And what if your work includes programming games for that same Windows 10 platform? Because you've agreed to this extremely dangerous ToS, you basically GIVE your code to MS and they're allowed to use it as they please - INCLUDING USING YOUR CODE FOR THEIR SUBSIDIARY GAME DEVELOPMENT STUDIOS.
Being a programmer myself and having issues with the fading of privacy in general, but certainly on the digital front, Windows 10 is a BIG NO-NO for me.
