In a way I don't really care for it. Gear just doesn't motivate me like that any more. Story, pets, mounts and to some extent transmogs do... but to care about some things that just makes me kill things faster or make me go kill things that are more challenging. Nah those days are over.
I also felt that the current system took away the bling legendaries used to have. We would think about how great it would be if it dropped... not even for oneself but for a guildie. It was excitement.
There's no need to hide them behind the most challenging content either though. As long as obtaining one feels like a grand adventure it be fine. A journey filled with lore, meaningful/historic locations, working together with others, some rare or a boss that needs to be slapped (that is accessible to non HC raiders).
I'm also not a fan how raids/dungeons work atm, 2 levels of dificulty is enough and to me that personal loot system seems to cheapen the whole experience of running dungeons.
Yet again, people are discussing about Vanilla WoW and his way better RNG system then today's one!
I would really love to hear a true explication about what Vanilla RNG system had better then the current one.
PS: No :
"In Vanilla or even BC RNG worked much better, also epics actually meant epics, nowadays they are pretty much garbage."
or
"I love MMOs were it takes time to acquire gear, Nilla WoW sort of had this." I mean this guy right here it actually describing the current Legendary RNG , which is the same as Vanilla , yet, he loves Vanilla RNG ( and time to acquire gear ) and hates the current Legendary RNG ( which has the same "time to acquire gear" point ) .
I mean what is "time to acquire gear" exactly ? In Vanilla you had to grind over and over and over and over Dungeons / Raids to acquire gear ( nothing else, just Dungeons and Raids ) , and in Legion we have to grind over and over and over and over Dungeons / Raids / World Quests to acquire gear / Legendaries . Now , what is the difference here ? Could some Vanilla Lover please enlight me ?!
Thank you!
@IceAge you are not all going to be ignored. Sadly folks still think this is the GOOD Ole Days!
Why?
Cause I was broke & Poor
Going to college
Unemployed
Could go those long hours without giving a fuck about anything else but WOW
Couldn't get laid only had enough money to play WoW than take a girl out to even a cheap Taco Bell dinner. Why bother when you'll end up getting the runs afterwards! I know GROSS!
Spending all those days and hours GRINDING away!
Gotta Get Warlord or Grand Marshall!
Where's my fucking JOLT?
It could be quick like a 2 pump chump or in it for the long hall with a shitty wife or husband waking up next to in misery!
Legendary items should all be gated behind very long and grindy quest chains and boss kills. It should take months to acquire a legendary and only a few players will ever be lucky enough to get one.
During vanilla our entire guild was involved in getting Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros for one of our members. It took nearly 4 months of Rag kills before the Eye dropped from Rag and we could make the item. That felt truly legendary. 40 people put in the time week after week and one person got the reward and we all cheered when it happened!
It was a mistake to make legendary items so common.
A huge mistake, yes. Legendary is just a bullshit concept if every player can get one.
Legndary in WoW players eyes? Look at Guild Wars 2 anyone can get a Legendary if you want to, you just need to put in the time. I SAY FUCK THAT!
Do you think everyone wants to put in the effort! NO!

Maybe because my brother 2 weeks after he hit 110 got 2 legendaries from WQ, while i was farming rep to get some gear? Thats apsolutely discusting. They were always the epic rare drops(like the skullflame shield usually that was droping in EPL or the staff), but these were litterally rare, also the Krol blade, apsolutely beautifull( butcher like sword) that the guild made me present at my birthday. Such type of RNG is fine, there is a huge difference from what it is now
Oh gosh! The feeling of being left out!
You're the folks that have ruined WoW!
Yes you and all your pals!
Feeling entitled to what everyone else gets!
I can only image the look on your face at a casino after you drop a couple hundred and losing everything compared to someone who may have drop a quarter in a slot machine on there way out and winnning!
A retention problem now though - agree that is what it suggests.
I only have personal experience to go by, but I see far less people disappearing by this stage of the expansion than in Cata or MoP (didnt play much WoD). People arent hitting the 'nothing to do' wall and are more or elss satisfied with the content. I would be shocked if this isnt their best 2 month retention since wotlk. Granted thats not saying much...
People didn't "see" others leaving in WoD either. Yet subs dropped 3M did in the first 3 months. That is why they have connected servers.
And for the same reason I won't disagree with you. We just don't know.
I resisted the urge to return at the start of the xpac. Now I just hear not to bother because I'll be so far behind the iLevel game it'd be unlikely to get raid slots even when I have the same stuff out of heroics as others.
Well whats funny is most of WoWs new mechanics that have been emplimented have been based off of Diablo 2, IE putting gems into sokets on gear for one, from BC
The one legendary item that really bothered me about this expansion, people spent huge amount of time on the legendary ring from the prior expansion and they just had to toss it as junk in this new one. Extremely rude Blizzard.
Isn't that normal for their expansion/update cycles? Add new item tiers for raid or new zone's greens/blues outstrip the stuff you'd spent so much time farming up prior to the x-pack.

You're right it's not fair at all!
Priceless!

It's kind of the pin to keep the wheel spinning.
So they degraded legendaries?
Orange is the new purple?
Maybe they shoud introduce a new colour and name: "Super dooper Legendary"?
Glad I quit after TBC. :P
