all i know is, the first and last "event" i went to pre-cu, there was a 5 minute lag between heals, people were laying dead for 10mins + and couldnt clone, and most people couldnt even get within speeder distance of the center of the fighting, let alone shuttle in.

I dont really care if there is 100 people or 10 people in coronet atm, all that matters is there are significantly less people.

    For the Horde!

Obraik, not that it is THAT important, but seeing your screenshot i THINK you dont have AA (antialiasing) turned on.

Considering your system, something is awefull wrong, you should not drop that drastically in frames just because a few peeps standing around.

Just want to mention you might wanna try these other NVdia drivers, i think they are called "omega" ?
    5-7 FPS with a 6600 on a 3+GHZ system is awefull wrong....

    Ok ok ok....i am off-topic.. ::::05::

Nah, no AA, can't have the post-processing effects turned on and AA at the same time :(

The framerate lag was not unique to me, pretty much everyone there had it.  Once I turned off all the fancy features, especially shadows, (heh, after I took the screenshots) it stayed around 10-15fps and was playable :)  Those on lower end systems were not so lucky though heh.  I'm actually using the Z-tweaked drivers, which stopped my FR jumping around and pretty much stays at 30fps in most situations except for mass gatherings such as this one...

Actually your wrong again. At least once a month they have one of these events on my old server and guess what? The nightsisters were off planet each time. I wandered into bestine at the tailend of an attack. Then again in Theed I got there just before the attack. And third time was at the Mining OP on Dantooine. 3 times the NIGHTSISTERS (Who are supposed to be blockaded by the Imperials) attacked other planets.
Want even more fun? We had Ewoks attacking Daeric once. WTH was that about? Rule # 3 about SOE: They care squat about the continuity and probably never saw Episode IV.

Lastly, people were in Coronet back in the days for a special event: to get buffed.  Socialising was a side effect (which is one reason there were buffs in the first place).  The reason people are here in this case is no different.  It's not like people decided ahead of time that they would be online to be at this event, because there was no warning of it.People were in Cnet because it was the central hub of transit. Not to get buffed. Getting buffed was a side effect. Everyone had to go there or through there at some point. So everyone propogated there. Had nothing to do with buffs. On my old server Imps buffed at the IO on Dantooine and Rebs buffed at AH on Tatooine for the most part. Neutrals were usually the ones in Cnet buffing.

On Chilastra Cnet was the main buffing point because of that, anyone who was doing stuff that needed a buff generally had to pass through Cnet.  Either way, my point is vaild for that scenario too:  They were there because they were forced to be there :)

They didnt have to go through Cnet. I played since release and never once did I have anyone behind me holding a gun to my collection telling me "Load through Cnet or the Darth Vader action figure gets it!". If I had to pass through Corellia I usually went through Kor Vella since I had a safe house outside it.

Hanging out in the med centre was the best socialising. Just had a ball there. Playing in bands was cool for ents, chatting to anyone who popped in.

One thing i would have loved would be that everyone factional should be overt and instead of ganking players, argue with them first. GCW suffered because of gankers and being macroed to hell, i would have been overt all of the time if players didn't come heavyfisted through some a'all of a sudden lag', what's the point??

    hmm, bit off topic there...

So a server wide message manages to gather the entire population and it's enough to populate 1 (and only 1) city close to what you'd see pre-CU every day. Yep, good job Obraik, you just proved once again that the servers are indeed dead.

Oh, and the events aren't a new ability either. I remember Coronet being overrun by 30' ewoks on April Fools day just before the CU. $OE just couldn't be bothered to use a tool they've had all along, content wasn't iconic until they got desperate enough.

The entire population?  Where does it say that?  Of course only one city is going to be populated for the event, it was only focused in one city :p

No events aren't new.  The ability for CSRs to run the events is though.  April Fools and other holiday events are not the same , they're planned and are not spontaneous like this event (and others like it) are.

There were obviously a ton of people on screen AND a bunch of AT-ST's running around. His framerate was just about right for what I saw in the video.

Thanks for the video and screens Obraik, looked like a dang kewl event.

Dude, you don't have to grasp at straws and say things that are obviously desperate. Your post just made you look really stupid. He posts a video with tons of people and screenshots of an obviously full event and you say "you just proved again that the servers are indeed dead."?         Hate to be the one that says this...

I looked at your pics and to be honest it's not that cramped, I've had local spontaneous TEF fights rivalling the amount of players seen on the pics- and no in-game-entire-server broadcast, mind you.

If  lag is getting bad because 100 people show up, I can only say that the server maintenance is even worse than when I played.

On the other hand I think it's great with these announcements and if implemented in the right way ( making a story out it instead of saying go to point X in approx. Y minutes) I think it will contribute to the immersion of the GCW which has been pretty much non-existent except from what the players themselves created.

Having said all that, I think its great that you post the pics anyway. Brings back old memories

I think it proves the point many of us have been saying.  There are people out there, you just don't see them because there's no reason for them all to be in the same spot anymore until something like this happens and they come out of the woodwork :p

Sorry, but on many servers that was a normal day before the CU/NGE debacle.  Not one city with people drawn because of an event.  Mos Eisley, Mos Espa, Bestine, Theed, Coronet, and both ports on Dantooine regularly were filled like that sans event.  That is why vets are saying it is dead now.  Granted in those days some of them were afk grinders (both combat and buff bots).  Even during the CU landing in Moenia or other remote starport would garner a handful of players, more than I saw in Coronet or Theed during my recent 'try the NGE' that was offered me.

Pre-cu there were enough players that 3 cities each on Tatooine, Naboo and Corellia were used for starting points, as opposed to just Mos Eisley.

They were nice pics though, brought back some good memories.

All this time Obraik and really never paid attention to your sig LOL, but damn, you play on the server I played on. LOL small world..
When did you start on Chilly?
With as many peeps it had, still I couldnt remember everyone.
    Nice choice in server though

I've only ever played on Chilastra, ever since June/July 2003 :)  What was your characters name?

it was Highplains Drifter, was tagged up with the old guild <LJA> Light Jedi Academy with Fuat, Deho, Vashna, Cemil, Thornes, Krooked and the rest of the ole LJA Rebels in the days.

Imperial buds were, Metinhat, Pro, Icryd, -Ultra, Pig Cookies, Gibert Grape, Bcott, Xanatos (the original owner), and more and more.

Rebel buds were Shek, Moshi, Maxjinn, Bigknuckles, Alyrem, Alejos, Deceptus, Kobie, Ian, Tyru, Carb'onand many others as well..

Binderman, Joric, Skunbacca, Broken, Unbreakable,Koopa and Masta Shaka ohn yeah and Benjia or was it spelled Benjii.. lol been so long.

The guilds I either hung with were LJA, Pace, Ronin, PV.

Guilds I warred agaist were IF, IFC, BC, IA, ISS

Now alot of these names are old school peeps, so you should reconize alot of them.

But I too started around the 2nd day of release, since the 1st day was jacked for me.

Very 1st friend on that server was Frostu.

Anyways, good seeing a ole chilly player, even though I dont play that game anymore.

Unlocked my Jedi Post 9 Patch, so got screwed a bit, missed the Comp Armor Jedi look.

My alts were .. Lethal Weapon, Deadshot and Sickntwisted.

Can you remember the toons name that would park outside Cnet and he was an imperial .. which he had a macro going.. stating he found a shiny penny and would aimsley crawl around in front Cnets Starport?

    Anyways, good memories...

Heh, I was in IFC    As soon as WoW was released though they moved to it, I tried but after 2 weeks I couldn't get into it so went back to SWG fulltime.

Yeah, alot of those names are familliar and a few of them have recently returned (and heh, defending the game on the Chilly forum) such as Ian and Kobie.  Fuat came back for a wee bit, but mainly for the forums heh.  Benjai (correct spelling :p) also pops in every now and then but the game isn't what he's after just yet.

I'm sorry Ob, but if you are playing an MMO and it takes "special circumstances" to make people actually get together to play, then the game is broken. Besides the fact that that really isn't all that many people. What it proves to me is that you are so used to not seeing anyone, that when you actually DO see a group of people you start taking screenshots and videos because it's such a rare occurance.

People get together to play, just not in a group of 100 like that :P  I didn't take the screenshots and video for here to show off numbers, I took them for the Chilly forum to "share the moment".  I looked at them and thought they could serve a purpose here too, heh

Is that why, before player cities came out, a CSR had the Rebels attack the IO on Dant? Or when a CSR had Imps attack AH about 2 months after the game was released?

Are you sure you played this game as long as you say you did?

I miss the days of lag casued by to many people in 1 area...

I miss the days when people actually played.

I guess the NGE fixed one thing.... Lag...

Having access to a billion $ IP - Billions of dollars..
Having access to a massive fan base of said IP - Even more Billons...
Singly handedly alienating them due to stupidity - Priceless.

It proves the server populations are not in good shape if, as you claim, the event message is broadcasted across the screen of players that are online and only 100 players came to the event.

Back before NGE if events were broadcast across online players screens, you would have had many, many more players.  Even many who just wanted to spectate the event and not participate.

event doesnt mean that the game is getting better, what about:

    bug

    lag

    shitty combat system

    random decision from soe

im not even sure this is an event might be a bug with a alot of afk players only 1 jedi attack the at-st.

Nice pics, and those events don't look half bad either...  However I take issue with this statement, you borderline come across as bragging about the amount of lag due to this event...  To me, this has been the main problem with SWG all long, and why it has and always will fail at life...

I remember a Rebel player invasion in Bestine when I played, it could have been the very best PvP of all time, except for the fact that it was a slideshow....  Framerate lag makes games unplayable...  SWG is a heaping pile of dung code, and yet three years later they still cannot fix the FPS when even 20 people are fighting at once...

Nice events and all, but if it is as laggy as  you say, there are much cleaner and more fun games out there to play...
