Nope. Not proud. Not embarrassed either. It's just like the color of my skin. It's there.

It all boils down to employment.

Gaming is not embarrassing. However, if you're unemployed, gaming is extremely embarrassing.

I don't work with or "run in crowds" that value video games so I rarely talk about them in my regular life.

Since there is a loud (and hopefully small) contingent of man-boys/woman-girls who constantly make the hobby seems like it's for losers/the socially awkward/angry people it's difficult to really have decent conversations with people who don't play.

Just met a woman who said that people who can play a video game all day are losers. I don't really think that's true unless they are turning their back on their responsibilities. While I think there is much more to life than video games I do wonder that if they are happy and not hurting anyone and can be responsible about their lives is that really a bad thing?

In any case, since I have only a few people in my life interested in video games I'm here so I can talk about them.

But if you met me and didn't bring it up you would never know I played. And if you entered my apartment you wouldn't see anything that suggested I was interested in games. No toys, or action figures or posters.

Just a large black computer sitting snugly and reasonably silent beneath my desk.

its a hobby I don't really get embarrassed about it. if someone else doesn't like to game that's there opinion and respect that too. for the people that put down gamers...well I generally feel sorry for them because they are the ones missing out. also like to point out to some of my couch potato jocks that there sports fantasy league is basically sports DnD.

I dont talk about gaming in my line of work much, the older generation in my field would look down upon it, younger generation is okay with it.

I consider gaming a superior form of entertainment rather than watching silly tv, if someone criticized me for playing games the only legit argument they have is that i could be doing something more beneficial with my time as long as watching tv or stalking stupid facebook wasnt it.

I have friends, though supportive in their way, who will say to me that every time I play a video game I could be doing something else more worthwhile.

They aren't necessarily wrong but "meh" I don't always want to do things that are worthwhile and responsible.

Sometimes I just want to eat pie.

Gamers are not roleplayers, D&D was released in 1974, Space Invaders did not come out in the arcades until 1978, two separate interests. Sure many people regard themselves as both gamer and roleplayer, but playing a MMORPG does not make you a roleplayer.

So am I proud to be a roleplayer? It would be hard to find any of us who weren't proud to be one. But do I mention it when out on a first date or the second one? You have got to be kidding. :)

As for saying I am a gamer, I guess having been a roleplayer the negative connotations of being a gamer were chicken feed in comparison. Never bothered me.

I am and always have been a gamer ... since the days of the Atari 2600 (Yes I am that old). I am proud of it too. Some of the skills I use at work everyday are ones I picked up from gaming, like Teamwork, and how to work with others that do not speak the same language, or have the same views as you do.
Gaming has also allowed me to expand my knowledge of technology and even to the point of building my own PC's.

Depends. Are you proud of your mental disorder?

"Gaming addiction classified as disorder by The World Health Organization"

Gamers usually put the game in front of basic life necessities. Eat, Sleep, Sex.
"South Korea the government has introduced a law banning access for children under 16 from online games between midnight and 06:00."

"In Japan, players are alerted if they spend more than a certain amount of time each month playing games and in China, internet giant Tencent has limited the hours that children can play its most popular games."

43 here, and growing up I definitely experienced the "gaming is for losers/bad for you/grow up/do something productive" things being said to me. Thankfully I found a mate that is just as much a geek as I am if not more, and have various friends both in "real" life and online that share that geekiness.

Since I grew up being shunned for what brought me joy though, I still feel embarrassed telling people what I like to do with my free time. It's a hard thing to shake when it was pushed on you for so many years. I envy kids growing up where gaming is not only fine but can even be profitable.

I am not proud in the sense I trumpet it to all and sundry, nor do I hide it..it's a part of what I do when I am not working or caring for other people/animals as a way to de-stress from a very emotionally and physically draining job. It has given me an outlet that otherwise might have turned to obsessive drinking or chemical abuse so they really can't say it's bad. As it has become more mainstream, it has been easier to talk about the experiences but not changed that I do talk about them once asked.

I don't know if I could ever be proud of anything that isn't work related or life related. With gaming it's my hobby, and usually the thing I do with friends or my girlfriend or when I'm at home. But I can't say I'm particularly proud as it's not accomplishing anything other than entertaining me. I'm proud of my collection of games I guess, so if that counts then yeah?

Gaming will always be part of my life, unless somehow they get banned (even then I'll probably find my way to play). The friends I surround myself with tend to also play games, my family all plays games (other than my mom) and my girlfriend plays games, so I usually have games on my mind. At work it is a little different as I work in a small office that other than one person, nobody really plays games.

No reason to be ashamed of playing games, but I don't see much of a reason to be proud either. It's just my choice of entertainment, and it's a big part of my life for that. If I were able to turn it into a career, then I would be proud 24/7 for playing games though. Someone start paying me to play games without having to be entertaining.

Well I am 72 years OLD. I have been playing computer games since they existed. I first played a computer game in 1972 on an IBM 1620 sps. It had 20k of core memory. I got my first computer in 1978.

I don't get out much and most of my friends are dead. Gaming and ham radio keep me going.

That is my lifestye now and if someone thinks it is a bad thing, well they can kiss my ---
