In this success they got more corporate mentality. This mentality has caused them to forget the desires of the gamers community and they only think of "how can we make more?". You can see this in all of their games now. Just simply turn on any SOE game and sit back and watch the ads roll. Because of their popular games, advertisments have become the new standard for SOE. The SOE of today makes games that "they" want you to play, instead of the games that the "players" want to play. This mentality is why I will never purchase any SOE game again. Ever.... Rimcy
Despite what you might believe in that Fairy-Land World of yours, SOE is a business. Therefore, you can't expect them to listen to and implement every single suggestion a player makes. God forbid a company should try to promote their games in order to make more money. Last time I checked, any business needs money. If SOE just sat around brainstorming all day for a game that satisfied every single gamer, it would likely never get created, and if it did, it would probably suck. No one's forcing you to play their games, and I doubt they care that you are boycotting them. Oh and by the way, SOE didn't develop Everquest. Verant did, and was bought out by SOE.
Make no mistake. The problem wasn't that SOE was shady about the way they handled the changes, although that in and of itself was a huge problem.
The changes themselves suck monkey balls glistening with urine. The NGE is without a doubt, hands down the biggest slap in the face to ANY long time subscribing costumer. Not just that. the functionality sucks, is broken, unintuitive, and will never be fun.
The completely ignore the customer base and dumb down a game that, in that incarnation, had alot of potential.
After the NGE went live, my guild mates and I logged in every night like usual, but we were shocked, hurt, and beyond disapointed. We all ended up leaving shortly there after, and I'm positive that we weren't the only ones.
As it stands now, I have in the past and will always be drawn to the Star Wars Mythos and any game (sans RTS games cause I hate those) set in the Star Wars Universe. I wish that a good company would design and develop a new Star Wars MMO, but I don't have alot of faith that that will happen.
A NWN-esque PC game that allowed us to make our own mods to play on-line, and a combat system based on the d20 Star Wars PnP game would be awesome, but somewhere down the line either Lucas turned to the darkside (spelled corporate) or the communication between LA and SOE is non-existant. Any person involved with maintaining the Cannon of the Star Wars Universe could see SOE had no business handling the Star Wars liscense.

It was mainly bad business on $OE's part. They believed that the way to increase customers was to wage war amongst their most loyal fan base. It makes no sense, and the customers you achieve are mythical at best.
It's now patently obvious (and it was back when it was released) the NGE is NOT what the playerbase wanted. If they took focus groups, they used biased samples. They should've learned their lesson with the CU. Whatever one thought of it (and I think it was a mixed bag once one looked at it objectively) the CU was NOT what the playerbase wanted. $OE received a huge blackeye with the CU the way they handled it.
And then once they found out what people wanted, make sure it works. $OE didn't do this. They released a product that wasn't even in beta-phase. The first 3 months of the NGE were alpha. And once again they are forcing people to pay while they beta test. (REmember smedley saying the reasont he CU was pushed out originally so fast was not enough people beta tested it so they needed a good sample?)
This isn't even debating the merits of the changes
If the NGE was all about money... why not come out with a classic server? Just one? I'm not familiar with how many man-hours involved with porting neccessary expansions to pre-cu.... start with a blank server to eliminate having to port items, and let's start over. I'd sub for that.
I will NOT sub for the NGE in any form it may take however... nor will I purchase a single Sony product.
Guess I'll wait till Vanguard comes out and play it untill SWG2

obviously more focus and less crack caused that effort does not equal happy, does not equal good

I have to admit i am a heroine addict too. Wonder Woman especially, couldn't get enough of that outfit. Don't live with me mum though.

Not really, if u let the cat out of the bag to soon, i think everyone involved with SWG and maybe a new MMO would lose more financialy. I agree with most that the rumors of a new company developing a new SW MMO is likely happening.
I am also in the mindset that SWG will hit the PS3 when it launches, i think they had the plans to go with that, but the PS3 launch date was pushed back, so they had to scrap thier release date to port the game.

If you're enjoying the NGE, then don't quit. I hope you enjoy playing with the 20 other people on your server. That's SO much better than the pre-CU days when there would thousands online simultaneously with a robust economy and PVP and PVE hunting groups. So what if the NGE reduced the human player population by 95%? At least the game mechanics are more iconic and star warsy. Yay!!!11111!!11
/sarcasmOff
But srsly, if you're happy with NGE, than go ahead and enjoy it. But don't try to squash our attempts to seek reform in SWG. I think it's outrageously naive to believe that if things continue the way they are, that "SWG will be the success it has always been capable of." O Rly? LOL
My OP is more directed towards people currently playing NGE and disliking (1) the game mechanics (2) the bugs (3) the low player population. My message to them is that if they want to accelerate reform at SWG, they need to quit and stop financially supporting the currently dysfunctional management of the game. Continuing to subscribe will ONLY result in the prolonging of incompetent management and NOT an improvement in the game experience.
I recently quit Star Wars Galaxies about a month or so ago. After playing since release, clicking that cancel button was one of the hardest things I've ever done.
Corpse runs, no vehicles, grinding my char to Master Rifle (you guys know how hard that grind was) without ever using a SINGLE buff, the COOL feeling I got everytime I saw one of those rare Jedi, my first scythe, NS group hunting, profession grind...etc
Notice anything? All my great memories are pre-cu. I have this to say about the NGE...It's fantastic for the average or casual gamer. I'm perfectly willing to admit that. The problem? WE AREN'T THEM. I miss having to wait an hour getting buffed etc. before I could actually do anything. Steep learning curve noob? Deal with it. The rest of us did.
I feel like there is no point to the game. Ok, so you have a sword with 300-500 dmg. Fantastic. I'm 20 levels higher than you, watch me kill you with my spoon.
And that weapon/armor you spent a month getting...yeah...be sure to donate it instead of just throwing it out. It's now worthless.
You don't like the game? That's funny...last time I checked you were still paying. Why would you pay if you hated the game? I guess that means you like it...and if your complaint about that wasn't true, why should the rest of your complaints be taken seriously?

Also the statements from both LA and SOE that the game is not being cancelled? and you choose to ignore the other sites that say bioware alrdy bought it?? and its not LA AND SOE it is mostly SOE that said the game wont cancel.....but of course what do you expect from the former SW license holder and yah i do admit LA did say it once they werent gonna sell but why would they say that and find people interested in buying the license?? sounds like something is going on right under $OE's nose
Viewed 40738 times Several websites are passing along spurious internet rumors regarding Star Wars Galaxies. Rest assured, these rumors are completely untrue.
LucasArts and SOE have no plans to sunset Star Wars Galaxies. The two companies will continue to work together as partners in making Star Wars Galaxies the ultimate online Star Wars experience. As has been announced several times previously, LucasArts and SOE are 100% committed and determined to continue to support Star Wars Galaxies together, especially with our renewed focus on improving the game for existing players through robust publish and content offerings in 2006. On our forums, we have shared early plans for game updates through Publish 34.
Additionally, LucasArts and SOE will be hitting the road this April and visiting several cities across the US with a series of Community Summits in an open town hall format where players can meet face-to-face with development team members, ask their questions, voice their concerns, as well as meet and hang out with fellow Star Wars Galaxies players.

Now what part of that post BY a Lucas Arts represenative and the publisher of the game did you not understand?
Here is your logic however: "a website said Bioware already bought it so it must be true! LA wouldn't know if it's true or not who they sold it too, this rumor site knows better..."

QUIT SWG!!!!
Now what part of that post BY a Lucas Arts represenative and the publisher of the game did you not understand?
Here is your logic however:
"a website said Bioware already bought it so it must be true! LA wouldn't know if it's true or not who they sold it too, this rumor site knows better..."

"What happened to you, Star Wars Galaxies? You used to look like Leia. Not quite gold bikini Leia (more like bad-British-accent-and-cinnamon-bun-hair Leia), but still Leia nonetheless. Now you look like Chewbacca." - Computer Gaming World
Are you really that dense?
