Well I guess Dark and light and pirates of the burning sea will have to be my savior, if these games don't pan out I guess I will not be playing any MMORPG's for the forseeable future

It can't be THAT bad, as long as they don't have anything to do with development.
Originally posted by Agent_X7 Hehe, this seems oddly familiar. Oh yeah, Verant makes EQ, SOE publishes. SOE takes over EQ. Fast forward, most Verant employees have left, and a core group form Sigil. Sigil games makes Vanguard, SOE publishes.
I wonder what they will be making when SOE is developing Vanguard 2?
Deja Vu of the worse kind. What in hell is Brad thinking getting back in bed with SOE again, after all those years of spouting about "what happened to the vision" when EQ1 got taken over, and "going to create our new vision, our way" when they started working on Vanguard.
And with SOE putting it on the Station Access, SOE's expected big competitor is no longer their competitor but it's adopted foster child.

I don't know, Microsoft has a real big bug up it's arse when it comes to MMO's. I mean, how many have they personally stopped development on in the last few years? Of the top of my head Mythica comes right to mind but I am pretty sure there is at least one more they stopped.
Actually I think Microsoft also had a large part to due with why Asheron's Call 2 ended up the way it did. With them calling to many shots and being the main reason I think the whole chat system in the game was shot to hell for a long time which was one of the factors for why people left when they all did when it first came out. There were several other things as well I think that was their fault, especailly not advertising the game and then once the game was on it's last legs sold it back to Turbine but they couldn't save it.
As much as I dislike SOE, I think this is a good move by Sigil to not depend on Microsoft to publish this game. SOE has the experience and the knowledge of how to at least do that very well. Vanguard tv commericals will be a big help for the game and you know SOE can do it.
So you want vanguard to die a slow death like Star wars galaxies?
I don't think SOE will have develoment rights on this title. Publishing and administrating servers have always been SOE's game, development not really. Especally with SWG, even six months after the NGE and there are still rumors on why it was changed into the FPS we all know today. If this and "Gods and Heros" turn out to be better games then the in house stuff I think that SOE might of solved their problem for the short term. PR disasters like the above SWG take a long time to get over. And no matter whose to blame for that, SOE's name is all over the box. They are a painted target in this case. Lets wait and see what the Co-Publishing deals do, might take some of the past away.
Sorry I have vowed to never deal with SOE again. I will unfortunately not be playing this game now. I will wait and see what Dark and light and Pirates of the burning sea turns out.If those 2 games don't pan out my only recourse will be to wait for Biowares new "secret" MMORPG gets released.

I agree it's bad when you have 50 people dealing with 3000 customers a day. I've worked Tech support myself and it is no walk in the park for anyone. And I can say that I have felt some of the GMs and CSRs pain. And I can say that SOE's Tech support is no better then Blizzard's or anyone elses.
“As the development process is ongoing and constantly shifting, it became clear that MGS and Sigil had varying visions and direction for the title’s development,” said Brad McQuaid, CEO of Sigil Games Online. “In the best interest of Vanguard, it was decided that we would buy back the publishing rights from Microsoft.”
As co-publisher of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, Sigil assumes greater control of marketing and PR, while maintaining responsibility for game development, community relations, media relations, customer support, and quality assurance. Under the terms of the agreement, SOE will provide distribution, marketing, hosting and back-end support -- including billing and technical support -- for the game. Additionally, SOE is tentatively planning on adding Vanguard, upon its release,to SOE’s Station Access™ subscription plan. Station Access allows players to enjoy all of SOE’s MMO titles for one low monthly price.
So.....
Sigil retains their Vision on what Vanguard will be.
SOE is helping to distribute and market the title.
Unless you really hate SOE's distribution and marketing capabilites and despise Sigil's vision of what Vanguard should be, why the heck get upset over this?!?
I'm guessing people don't read the whole first post?

SOE is helping to distribute and market the title.
These are the key points:
1. We found an incredible opportunity: the opportunity to purchase the publishing rights from Microsoft and become our own publisher.
2. We now own both the IP (the intellectual property) of Vanguard and the publishing rights.
3. This gives us more control and autonomy than we have ever had before. We are no longer just a developer.
4. Microsoft was TOTALLY cool with this. They are still very happy about Vanguard and looking forward to it bolstering their Windows platform. Vanguard will be an XP game, but also a Vista game, offering both 32 bit and 64 bit clients. We will continue to work closely with them and with Vista's focus on entertainment/games/graphics, as well as online, Vanguard is key.
5. SOE was TOTALLY cool with this. They are excited to have the people who designed and worked on the original EQ and EQ expansions provide a game for them. They need a game like Vanguard next year -- it gives them a variety of games from which players can choose from, or players can just play Vanguard.
6. We continue to have total control over the game's design, how it is marketed, the community, customer service -- everything that is important to us and I think important to all of you.
7. Things like running game servers, getting ads (that we design and/or approve) into magazines, getting boxes into stores, etc., all of which SOE is great at doing, they can do while we focus on finishing up the game and on beta.
8. This also gives us more time to launch the game when it is truly ready.
9. edit: Also, Vanguard will *NOT* be part of SOE's 'buy and sell items for real world money'. Our hard line position against this for a game like Vanguard remains as strong as ever.
If there are any other concerns or questions about this -- that's what I'm here for. I know this is a big change and it takes a moment to wrap one's head around it, but bottom line is that it's the best thing for Vanguard, for Sigil, and for you, our future players.
My initial reaction was extremely negative, but I took the time to read everything that Brad himself had to say about it on the official forums and found myself much more at ease. Perhaps I have been brainwashed.
If we know anything about Sigil, we know that they are stubborn. Brad seems very passionate about Sigil having full control over Vanguard while SOE handles the other things. SOE makes no development decisions and has no room to 'flex its muscles' and pressure Sigil into making design changes.
From what Brad has said, the relationship with SOE allows them even more freedom than they had with Microsoft. While I have no love for SOE, this reason is good enough for me, and having met Brad on a few occasions I feel very confident in his confidence.

Sigil in charge of customer support and quality assurance makes me feel much better about the deal. I believe Brad thinks it was a mistake on his part to ever let go of EQ, so I find it unlikely that he will ever relinquish control of Vanguard. Plus, I can't see him buying out MS instead of letting them have control and then going to SOE just to he can give control to them. The best game SOE has was developed by Brad, so I have no doubts Vanguard will be a great game as well. And even if he sells out to them some time down the road, I believe I can get at least a few years of quality gaming out of Vanguard, which is more than I have gotten out of any game in a very long time.
Originally posted by osiloa THat is what they say now, but once SOE get's it's greedy Paws on the game, there will be no stopping them SOE is like a parasite.
They have no power to, and it is not as if Sigil is open to bribes of money from them if they ever desired the power to. SOE is not paying Sigil for this, remember. This is being done to give Sigil more freedom over Vanguard.
Sigil is now both developer and publisher. SOE is co-publisher. Brad has almost tyrannical power over his product, now.

lol there was a reason I put all of those ~~~~~~~~~ If you think I am Mquaid.... HAHAHA
Are you sure they were publishing the Marvel MMO? Because Sony has the DC MMO and that i would think would be a problem if Sony has to Market both.
As co-publisher of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, Sigil assumes greater
control of marketing and PR, while maintaining responsibility for game

Looks like as of yesterday and earlier that is still slated for Xbox 360.....

I'm stupid I misread your post, My fault Fire, that will be interesting to see what happens.
I didnt see you were talking about the marvel game and not Vanguard.
I am curious to see what happens if Sony has to market DC and Marvel's MMO game.
Lets wait on that Marvel one, it's still a ways off.....
Vanguard on the other hand suddnely has become very interesting.
and it is not as if Sigil is open to bribes of money from them
Everyone is open to bribes, they just need to be large enough.
To believe otherwise is naive
Everyone is open to bribes, they just need to be large enough.

SOE doesn't have the capital that the Sigil bribes would need to be.....
Sigil left Microsoft...
