I don't hate SoE. Infact had they not put VG under the all access pass I'd probably never had played outside of the beta.

Did you even Vanguards FAQ before you posted? The FAQ states that they believe the more accessible games are the games that have the million plus subscribers and their aim with Vanguard is not to be so compromising and to take the risk as a more niche game so they can make the game they want to make.
As for the rest of your post, I can't be bothered to post the same stuff over and over again in detail. Put simply, people are angry that SOE are having anything to do with the game for two reasons.
One, because anyone who knows anything about business knows that things change, what is said here and now could be a very different story in 6 months time. There are many different ways SOE could end up with more control over Vanguard.
Two, because people have been burnt by SOE before and felt so badly treated by them that they don't want to give Sony any more of their money. By buying the game you will be putting money into SOEs pockets.
I WILL be buying Vanguard, but I respect anyone who chooses not to if they felt SOE treated them badly and are making the only stand they can, by not putting money in SOEs pockets.
Yes I did read the FAQs many times. I have followed this game for a very long time. If you re-read my post you will note that I mentioned that it will probably not have as many subscribers as WoW because it will be a more challenging game. So yes they are catering to players who want a deeper more challenging experience, but it is hardly what you would call a "niche" market. The original EQ was much the same way and was not a niche market either by a long shot. This whole dumbing down a mmorpg trend is a newer one. Vanguard is simply a return to that older style with some new twists .

I find it odd that people call it dumbing down just when they don't like something. It's not dumbing down. It's focusing on something else. Instead of fighting others for mobs you get instances. Instead of spending 45 minutes traveling you are spending 10minutes, instead of having wrist breaking tradeskills they have fluid ones.
I know people are resistant to change and put down what they don't like but gotta face the facts, games change and evolve. No one likes a stagnant game. I liked EQ1 as well, played at release and 4 more years. However, I certainly don't feel any "smarter" because I played it over WoW or EQ2, anyone that thinks that is rather stupid.

Right.... How many people could there possibly be out there willing to play a good high fanatsy MMORPG? Cant be more than 10 - 15 dudes... tops.

And I can say that SOE's Tech support is no better then Blizzard's or anyone elses.
You really need to understand, that a game only needs that "massive" support when its NOT only full of bugs but the technicans suck at their job and the customer service isnt able/willing to help.
May i bring to your mind that SoE is the company surprising the customer every single patch with "server issues", when their little Amiga-Server wont boot up again and all you get is a "our technicans are working on it"? Servercrashes, downtimes, maintanance and "unforseen" problems all over the place...that is SoE ! Vanishing items, lag spoiling gamemechanisms, non restorable houses vanishing from one second to the other etc. etc. etc.
THAT ALL HAPPEND !
And this is mostly due to lag and serverissues, not (only) the very coding.
And for their "service": If you worked in service, you should know that you can control if a servicecall is handled professional and solved quickly or causing a bunch of afterwork. That is what we call "effeciency" of such service.
Such term (effeciency) has NOTHING to do with "SoE" in one sentence - with their incomeptent Indian "no-clue" Rashid's sending you standard macro-responses (while we do understand....piss off).
SoE is NOT good at marketing and PR. Its NO good publisher, period.
Where is the "oh so great" Star Wars Galaxies advertising - before they really NEEDED to push their crappy FPS after NGE ? Where is the big MXO merketing success huh ? You dont want me to list all the failed SoE titles, some youve prolly never heard before...
And that is exactly what SoE is made upon. I am sorry to see you suffer under delusions, but you need to get real.
Why do you think is SoE jumping into STO and now Vanguard? "Coincendently" exactly these two games, which are the most dangerous threat to SoE and their crappy games ?
The old japanese motto is "If you cant beat your enemy - control it..."
This is exactly what SoE is doing. WAKE UP !
Mark my words, more potential bestseller are to follow.....
SoE is disgusting me to the end: They cant get any of their own games up to the wanted success, chasing "WoW-dreams" (numbers) and bitching jelous on the Blizzard-Fence.
Now they turned into the Borg, assimilating all and everything they can afford - excuse me please, i have to puke a few hours: Be back later...
While not having quite the same total blind hatred of SOE that others have shown I will admit seeing the press release that SOE is now going to be involved, in whatever limited fashion, with Vanguard I'll be thinking twice about it. Like others after the recent SWG debacle I had decided I would NEVER be involved with another SOE game again.
I can see Sigil's reasons for wanting to go with a big name company to do support/host but why in the world they chose SOE is beyond me, every single one of their games is in decline = EQ2-SWG-MxO-Planetside yet plenty of other companies keep on growing WoW-CoV-CoH- EVE ect ect. And like others have posted SOE has to be the worst for customer support be it ingame, forums, or whatever. Then again due to their games being in decline maybe SOE gave them a deal on some now unused servers
I know others have posted it but you have to admit that SOE has started out with similar limited involvement with multiple games and ended up buying them outright down the road, EQ1 = EQ2 and they did the same hosting bit with MxO then later bought them out. For me after watching SOE piss away my time, effort, money in EQ1 and SWG with their crappy changes I'm not sure I want to take any chances of going through it again.
It's a problem of the a little thing I like to call the "SOE Taint" consisting of endless nerfs, constant changes to combat and proffs but never getting it right, crappy gameplay changes, thousands of flat out lies and broken promises, a mountain of bugs, and a host of other problems going back to EQ1 but yet seems to be prevelant in every single one of their games. You'll know what I'm talking about if you've ever had the misfortune to play one of their games for any length of time.
For me I'll wait and see what happens as it gets closer to launch but really I'm having a hard time getting over the fact that SOE will be involved with Vanguard for whatever reasons at launch let alone the possibility of further invovlement down the road.

I can promise you that Vanguard will not appeal to only a small part of the market. More people are looking for a game like Vanguard then you think. You got to figure that many EQ players are looking forward to it(and EQ in its prime had over 400,000 subscribers which is hardly niche) and there is alot of other people eyeballing the game too. A niche game would be more like Pirates of the Burning Sea, The Saga of Ryzom, Eve Online. Something which is very different from what is out there and does not have a large audience yet. City of Heroes used to be niche, but it became so popular and well known that it can not be labeled as such anymore. Especially being that more comic book games are coming down the pipe. Comparing Vanguard to WoW would be more like comparing soft rock to hard rock. They are just two different flavors of a similar thing.
What many people forget is that a large portion of the people waiting for Vanguard are people who no longer wanted to be associated with SoE. Many were looking at Vanguard as an alternative to SoE and it's mishandling of their games and customers.
I for one, will not touch a game that has SoE's name anywhere on the box. I don't care what the press release or Sigil says.... SoE will never get a penny from me again.

"From '10' down to '1'. SoE will no longer publish anything with any sort of depth or that requires real thinking. Too bad. Very short sighted on the part of Sigil. Guess everyone has their price."
RIP, V:SoH. So much promise; so many looking to you. No more.
SOE joining the fray on this game just moved it from my "anticipated" list to my "ignore" file. SOE is a ridiculously bloated and out of touch company and I plan to NEVER become engrossed with anything they touch ever again.
I will have nothing to do with SOE, i'm sure this has been said many times but seriously, don't ya think the former (Verant)EQ folks who left SOE to start vanguard would make the same mistake twice?
Well this is good news for Blizzard(and other mmorpg companies) as people who, like me, hate SOE will be leary of playing this game now.
I hate SOE by default, as well. I panicked for about an hour before I came to actually understanding what it meant. But people are making things up, here, such as that SOE has a magical power to break contracts.
SOE has never overstepped their bounds, before. People are up in arms about games that they made or acquired. This is an entirely different situation. I understand concern, but jumping up and down with, 'Great, SOE is going to own Vanguard now!' is just knee-jerking. Reading comprehension helps to quell these things. The concerns come from a good direction, but they are irrational nonetheless.
They're in charge of Billing and Support, that alone is enough for me not to go with em.
They stand to make a buck less because I don't play... all I need to know to make up my mind.
Sony is trying to say that they will give sigil all the control blah blah blah. Sure, until it gets released then 6 months later there will be a new nge. Let sigil rot with sony for all I care. Not like Vanguard was shaping up to be a worthwhile game anyways... Take every crappy part of eq2, multiply it by 10 and you have vanguard. I wouldnt be surprised if Microsoft said hey Brad, your game sucks why not do this to make it better. Then Brad responded with something like How would you know? We dont want to work with you anymore anyways we'll go to sony. Microsoft probably just snickered as they cut the ties.
This is good news I think. Obviously SWG is a disaster, but EQ2 is handled extremly well. I think the Vanguard team will have their freedom to do what they want anyway, and benefit from what SOE can offer.
That is why they were pushing the game release date??? I cannot believe this!!!
after all the load of crap Brad said against SOE and after all the things SOE has done to the community???? He decides to give them his jeweled crown???? Is that why some developers were leaving Sigil??
At least with SWG they lied AFTER the game was released!!!!! Not in BETA!!!
Ohhh mr. McQuaid.....this is a sad day to the MMO world. Killing a game before release..lol.
SMEDLEY!!!!! please God....the solely word makes me puke!!
Good luck to all the fan boys ..really. I wish you the best luck. Wait until you get mugged and your money is lost because of the "excellent service SOE has"..lol, or, or..wait...they will promise regular updates...hahahah....ohh...they are "ONLY" in charge of the billing...hahahhaha
I don't know what else to say ...only that now i will never try this game. ever! i got mugged once....i won't let them make me suffer again. Sorry guys.
What a lot of the "you're all stupid, it's not that bad" people seem to have missed is that at the very start Sigil said that MS is only a publisher and has no say over design of the game, now they are saying that now they have even more control over Vanguard and how it is marketed than they had with Microsoft and that SOE is only a publisher. So in 6 months are they going to tell us things have changed again? Are they going to tell us that SOE have more to do with the game than has been let on like they seem to be saying about MS?
I'm not getting involved in this "it's ruined, no it's not" back and forth because, well, I don't care about Vanguard in the slightest (I'm much more concerned with a certain Edmonton company making the ACTUAL next generation mmorpg) but I'll chime in to say that in the world of business things change overnight. Think about it, if you asked Brad and crew if they would have any dealings with SOE in the future when they first left EQ what would their response have been? Something along the lines of California annexing Nevada? Don't take anything as set in stone.

I utterly agree with you and I've said it a few pages back, business changes daily and what is said here can now could be a very different story in 6 months for a lot of reasons.
You have to be kidding Sigil? Is it an April fools joke?
I was into Vanguard till now. I left EQ2 because of SOE. I am not about to go back. As one or 2 posters stated:
Its not going to be "shame on me" nor am I going to go back to the "dog puke"
Another poster stated this is just business practice to do this. Well when they dont listen to the customer then no one should give them any $$. There not getting my money for ignoring the majority. They will learn. Or maybe not as we have seen.
Say no to SOE.
Chesterwiz
P.S.
I might just leave my company and make their product better then crawl back for backing from my previous employer.

From my Revised Hype :
"From '10' down to '1'. SoE will no longer publish anything with any sort of depth or that requires real thinking. Too bad. Very short sighted on the part of Sigil. Guess everyone has their price."
RIP, V:SoH. So much promise; so many looking to you. No more.
SOE joining the fray on this game just moved it from my "anticipated" list to my "ignore" file. SOE is a ridiculously bloated and out of touch company and I plan to NEVER become engrossed with anything they touch ever again.
Good choice Sigil.
"The dog has return to it's vomit"
I will have nothing to do with SOE, i'm sure this has been said many times but seriously, don't ya think the former (Verant)EQ folks who left SOE to start vanguard would make the same mistake twice?
Well this is good news for Blizzard(and other mmorpg companies) as people who, like me, hate SOE will be leary of playing this game now.
Oh well....
Playing: varies every day it seems.
They stand to make a buck less because I don't play... all I need to know to make up my mind.

This is good news I think. Obviously SWG is a disaster, but EQ2 is handled extremly well. I think the Vanguard team will have their freedom to do what they want anyway, and benefit from what SOE can offer.
I'm giving this one a shot.
Sorry guys.
Microsoft and that SOE is only a publisher.
There is an old saying....
"Sh!t on me once....shame on you.......Sh!t on me twice, shame on me"
I think that saying sums up what most here feel about SOE......

P.S.
I might just leave my company and make their product better then crawl back for backing from my previous employer.
Ya that looks good dont it?
Stupid F***** Brad Mc quack.
Hey, if you don't like using common sense, go ahead and keep living in your pathetic little fantasy world.
Where CEO's give up millions to keep their promises
And devs are your bestest best friends
And corporations spend money to no end to keep people happy
And unicorns crap rainbows while gumdrops rain from the sky!
Ohh, and I've talked to Brad at the Fanguards....his supposed dislike of SoE doesnt match this move, so why the hell should I believe that a year from now he won't sell the rights to the game also?
