umm..No, a few million WoW players never visit this site...
The problem is that so many people want WoW to be something that it is not.
I was in part disappointed because I think its hardly built on its warcraft routes. I mean the concept of warcraft was war. Where is the war in WoW? Its a completely different game, yes ok obviously because one is a rts, one is a mmo but I think it could have made it more true to its routes outside of mobs.

Well that to bad for u. How i no that they all love the game. Lvl 1-59 is accutaly fun, once 60 boring teribly.

Really? I've played since AD&D1e and I never remember having to get 24-40-72 of my friends to help me slay a dragon. We took 4-8 people to slay the dragon, hardly what any MMO considers a raid.
The reason we have "raids" today is because MMO developers can't think of ways to challenge players that doesn't involve mobs with tons of hitpoints and massively hard hitting attacks.
Because I totally didn't use that as the referance to where raiding inutually started. I'm sorry you had to twist my words into something completely outa left feild.
um, what exactly did you say then? because the quote above from you is rather IN context. blue box d&d came out in the early 70s. no interweb or online games (not even bbs) back then. so um, what raiding EXACTLY dost thou reference? since it's NOT pnp d&d?
Well, seeing that was to someone else cause he wanted to be an ass an say like raiding consists of 40+ people in the old DnD standards. I only said they had raids in DnD. (I never played it, but have many friends who do and did back in the day) So what if it wasn't the magnatude of 40 people it was still considered a raid. No need to compare GW and WoW at all.. it's like comparing apples to oranges. While I personally tend to favor skill based PVP games like DaoC and GW, I also enjoyed WoW for what it was.
I enjoyed my time in WoW and thought it was a good value until the end game. But after a long gaming career I can sniff out a stinker when I smell one. Blizz is very clever to market and design their game to a simplistic lab-rat type audience. Now there are a lot of people like this in the world, hence it's popularity in numbers. It's genius is in the fact that it can continually get simpletons to do the same thing over and over and over again without ever asking "am I making any kind of impact in this virtual world?" The answer is.. no. That answer is perfectly acceptable to many people, I just decided I'm not one of them.
Now do I hate WoW. Of course not! It is a great game for people just getting introduced to the MMO genre. It's cute, fun, and cuddly.
What the OP may conceive as hate I would consider more to be a desire for a deeper experience. Game designers are now starting to develop games that truly help individuals gain a sense of impact and this is truly what many of you are asking for. You don't want to have to farm a monotonous dungeon for hours on end to brag to a bunch of immature leet kiddies in the community that you got a purple sword and that now you are an uber member of the community. This is the treadmill WoW thrives on and continues to drive in the masses gladly forking over money to do it.
Wow is fun in the beginning, maybe the best i've ever played. But after 60 its all about raiding to experience end game contect or even be able to experience additional content, which only a few percentage are able to do so. This makes the game very frustrating and impossible for the rest of the community, which makes me hate wow for bringing in so many users with fun begining play then screwing over the casuals. Not everyone can raid for 5 hours everyday and that's all the game is later on.
Thats my point but Gameloading keeps sayin that its wrong i said WoW is good form lvl 1-59 at teh end it is borin

I don't know about this Damonvile...
I have seen quite a few threads titled something along these lines the past few months...
"Why is the $&*#@ is WoW not rated higher! It the best game ever and now [insert game] is rated higher! This sites ratings are total BS!!"
I think there are actually a helluva lot more wow fanbois starting threads over how great WoW is then WoW haters starting flame WoW threads.
But in the end.. What does it really matter? So what if 650 million people play WoW? Doe that mean that it's even 100 times better game then it is now? If 50 million people in this world eat an apple a week and only 5 million people eat an orange a week, does that really mean that an apple is 10 times yummier then is an orange? Just because the movie "Dumb and Dumber" made three times the money then did the great movie "Memento".. now Dumb and Dumber is by far the better movie of the two??
Numbers mean nothing (or close to it). The only reason I want a decent number of people choosing a game I play is because I want to have some interaction with other players and not a vacant world in the mmo, ya know? That's about all the numbers are worth. They mean nothing.
And for all you fanbois of WoW who can't wait to ask me "Can 6.5 million people be wrong?".. To that I say not just yes, but "Hell Yes" they can be! Look at the 50% of Americans that actually voted for GW Bush in 2004. Look at all the millions of people that once said that the Spice Girls were the bomb and the best group ever and now are looking back laughing at themselves when they find that old dusty copy of a Spice Girls CD.
But you're right. Stupid posts about ranks and what not are a waste of space. Someone posting about how much they like any game is not a bad thing imo and something this site is sorely lacking. Sometimes it seems the only thing this forum is good for is giving the MMO burn outs a place to voice why all games suck or .... does anyone know a good free mmo.

Who the hell is compairing! OMG. Stop twisting words. Do you like making things up with what people say or do you do that subcontiously? Whats wrong with saying that raiding was infact prevolant in a pen and paper game. Just cause I don't play the game doesn't mean I haven't sat in on one of them. I wasn't compairing shit get it through you head. I said it exsited. That is alll obviously its been majorly tweeked for MMORPGs. Are you really that dense in thinking I'm compairing it? You're deffinitly the smartest guy in the world.

Siehst du mich Erkennst du mich Ganz tief in meinem Herz ist noch ein Platz f?r dich Ich suche dich Ich sehne mich nach dem was ich geliebt hab doch ich find es nicht
I don't get how GW can get higher than WoW, because i got bored a lot quicker on GW... meh, each to their own, i guess.
It seems people are starting to realise that WoW is pointless (i could end that sentance here) after 60. They should also realise that the game can offer much more than it does, it's only a simple matter of changes that could make this game great. Mostly the PvP system, it really frustrates me that they're allowed to even create such a system that requires you to play all day, every day, or you'll risk losing rank for missing just one day!
I'm trying my best not to type what i'm really thinking (contains lots of profanities) when talking about this issue, especially when you know how much money they're swimming in... invest it in some PvP, no Civilian DK Punishing Servers, you tossers.
Originally posted by jesseduck60 Ranking any of the other lame RPGs above WoW seems pretty dumb to me.. yeah WoW has problems.. there should be more than just one auction house for the Horde and Alliance, but looking at the ratings... WoW is really just getting killed in Lag, community, customer service and Roleplaying... and if just the lag factor wasnt so bad the game would be rated a bit higher.. likely back at number one. But after playing FF XI, Everquest, Planeshift, Knights Online, Silk Road, and many other lesser knowns.. WoW is better.
Every city now in WoW has a auction house. So anyone who is making IF there home and not Stormwind is really doing it for other reasons then lag. In StormWind you have access to the same flight paths as IF and the tram along with all the class trianers, profession trainers etc...
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.
How Guild Wars overtook WoW is quite simple actually. The game is really simple for the most part and no monthly fee. Its endgame is PvP based and since its not all that difficult to get some of the best gear PvP is skill based not gear based and you can really play whenever you want you don't have to think shit I didn't play this month there goes 15 bucks.
In WoW to be competitive you have to raid simple if you want good gear raid. You want to not get killed easily in PvP raid, you want to be able to do some good crafting raid to get the mats and the recipies. Seriously everything comes from Raiding for a whole bunch of the game. Sounds just as repetitive as guild wars except with more things to do with a gear based PvP system that is far less fun.
That's why people complain that's why people hate. Why do some people still talk about it we have friends that played and we remember how fun it was post MC waiting for Blizzard to deliver its Dynamic World PvP, Hero classes and other fun stuff. Now that the game is raid or die is it really hard to understand why were pissed off and feel we should disucuss the game and let people know the truth.
So Simple Guild Wars simple skill based fun, World of Warcraft simple fun till 60 then raid or die, and costs $15 dollars a month. Not hard to see how people that get burned out on WoW turn around and change their minds about what they thought of the game.
I haven't bothered with reading this entire thread, and I don't intend to. I'm just going to make a statement here. The ONLY reason WoW has 5.5million Subscribers is because it had a built-in BattleNet playerbase. It's not a 'great' MMO, it's above average at best. In no way did it ever deserve to be in the top 10 for over a couple of months. Nobody's being hard on WoW, fanboys just don't care about creating new accounts to boost it up anymore.
Originally posted by Fenrir767 How Guild Wars overtook WoW is quite simple actually.
What exactly did Guild Wars overtake WoW on? WoW now holds +50% of the entire mmorpg market. Instead of declining in population, it's growing ever larger. When the expansion is released, WoW will get another surge in subscriptions.
GW is free and yet it can't even give it's subscriptions away.
Despite all the complaining about WoW, numbers speak louder than whines and 6,000,000 people are subscribed to WoW, making it the most popular and largest played mmorpg in history, free or otherwise.
WoW may have a horrible end-game in the eyes of many and I agree. But if WoW is truly terrible, Blizz it' still laughing all the way to the bank with a fist full of dollars.

Thats why I said raiding was prevolant in DnD. Nothing more nothing less. Maybe I should of added a few more sylibols to my sentences next time to dictate that even though something had raids it wasn't to an access of 40 people instead of just saying raiding was a concept here?
actually kyo, your reply was to MY post. guess you forgot to read your original reply to see i was replying to YOUR reply to my post.
so you're going to throw out a term you think was used in a game you never actually played and compare it to the 40 man raids which we refer to as raids nowadays... BRILLIANT.
take your sign, move on.
Now go sit in the nice white room and stop posting stupid shit.
Siehst du mich
Erkennst du mich
Ganz tief in meinem Herz
ist noch ein Platz f?r dich
Ich suche dich
Ich sehne mich

Not hard to see how people that get burned out on WoW turn around and change their minds about what they thought of the game.
even tho im bored silly with wow and havent played in around 4-5 months its still one of the best mmorpgs i have ever played.
and ALOT better than shit like guildwars
GW is free and yet it can't even give it's subscriptions away.
Despite all the complaining about WoW, numbers speak louder than whines and 6,000,000 people are subscribed to WoW, making it the most popular and largest played mmorpg in history, free or otherwise.
WoW may have a horrible end-game in the eyes of many and I agree. But if WoW is truly terrible, Blizz it' still laughing all the way to the bank with a fist full of dollars.
