Imagin being able to be in battles like Hoth or the Battle over Endor, maybe not those exact battles but being in high pitched battles were your heart is racing cause you got enemy pilots on your tale, or that big AT walker is coming right at you and have to find a place to lay low so you dont die. The rush of the fast paced combat.
SWG was boring to all hell, I found staring at the wall more exciting then SWG. Sorry I just don't see the point in making another SW mmo in that way.

To you it's boring, so go by Battlefront2 and you can do all of those things. We're MMORPG fans, if you're not, then why post in this thread? You have your game, now we want one...

No flipping doubt MX13! Why in Gods name would anyone complain that SWG (pre-cu) was boring when they were infact playing the wrong game altogether? Perhaps LAs marketing department is once again to blame (I blame marketing for most of the worlds ills).
Kiltak, learn to use the internet for something other than nazi-amputee-midget porn and do some research before buying a game.

Ok I'd just like to say that the reason I found the two KoTOR games so compelling was because of their deep story, which centralised around you.

This would not be workable in an MMO.

The combat was nothing special, and in fact in an MMO it would be dull and get tiresome fast. There are some systems which may work, if done well i.e. the Feats system, but a KoTOR MMO will have to go far away from its original format to make a fun, popular MMO.

MMORPG games did not apeal to mainstream players till WoW. I wasn't in to them till SWG myself (SWG for me made it seem cool). I blame WoW. Other companies saw that success and said "Hey! we can make a game that anyone can enjoy" But SOE failed to realise that the remaining SWG players (the ones who did not leave at launch) where mostly made up hardcore MMO players who liked hardcore rules sets and did not want arcade in an MMO. We knew that there were other games out there that played like arcade games if we needed that fix. Why they felt the need to break away from traditional RPG rules who knows, but I hope the next one follows it again.

Whatever mmo bioware creates will be great im sure, but im equally sure they wont create a star wars mmo. They have a ton of IP of their own to work with, why the hell would they make a star wars mmo? There isnt even a market for a star wars mmo. The only star wars mmo in history only peaked at 300k subscribers. It doesnt make sense guys.

BioWare Corp. Announces New "BioWare Austin" Studio

New Studio Recruiting for Massively Multiplayer Online RPG Project

EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada, March 13, 2006

Canadian videogame developer BioWare Corp. has announced the opening of a new studio, BioWare Austin, based in Austin, Texas. It is the second of BioWare's studios and the first to be located outside of Canada.

BioWare Austin has already begun work on a Massively Multiplayer Online roleplaying game (MMORPG) title; the new game will mark BioWare's debut in the Massively Multiplayer Online space. BioWare has recruited some of the top talent in MMO and RPG development, both to manage the development efforts at BioWare Austin and to collaborate with the experienced team at BioWare Edmonton, to develop a game that combines the best of BioWare's great past games with a compelling persistent online experience. Joining the Austin team as lead designer is James Ohlen, BioWare's Creative Director, whose previous credits include lead or co-lead design roles on Star Wars®: Knights of the Old Republic™, Neverwinter Nights™, Baldur's Gate™ and Baldur's Gate II™. Also leading the BWA team are MMO veterans Richard Vogel and Gordon Walton. Richard Vogel brings 15 years of experience to BioWare Austin, previously serving as VP of Product Development for Sony Online Entertainment's Austin studio, as well as launching Ultima Online™ as a senior producer at Origin. Gordon Walton recently served as VP, studio manager and executive producer at Sony Online Entertainment as well as VP and Executive Producer at Electronic Arts.

since no one has looked at this and said anything im going to. Bioware is making a MMORPG and they got a guy whos involved with KOTOR, NWN, BG and BG2. Then u got another guy who is VP of Product Development of SOE and another guy who was VP, studio manager and executive producer at SOE and EA! To me, they got some good guys. But what gets my attention is that those 3 guys had something to do with SW i bet. Well, of course the guy who was involved in KOTOR was involved with SW, but wat about the other 2 guys. They worked for SOE, and lets see, SWG was made by LucasArts and SOE! So if those 2 had sumthing to do with SWG, then this may be the SW MMORPG we've been waiting for. You never know. But also on the Bio-Ware site, under games, under the in development part, there is the MMORPG game which we dont know much about except wat concord posted. But underneath it says Next-Gen Game. Could this be KOTOR3????? We're just gonna have to wait.

True! Even my old guild on Bloodfin who say they are having a blast say the server is pretty dead compared to the old days. They keep pleading for people to come back and the ones who do leave after they figure out the reason they left. Bloodfin and Bria have always been bust servers, but since there is little left in the game to do people come and go more often. The ones who remain are either new people or diehard PvPers. Why do you think they added all the PvP content so fast after all the years of none? To make the people who are actually left happy.

I think all pirrg does is troll and try to piss people off by making the comments he does. He's European and they like to start arguments by flame bating (winding you up) then sit back and laugh about it. It's best just not to feed in to him. If you notice once he starts an argument in a thread he runs out of it and goes someplace else to start a flame war, but he rarely backs up his little snide remarks with any further discussions on his opinion.

If... and only IF this is true. It makes perfect sense. I have posted about this b4. Making MMO's from an existing IP should be set in a time frame within the IP's storyline that doesnt affect any major events. Setting SWG in the middle of the movie mains story line. bad idea you can't grow the game with new story's created by your customers you dont feel apart of the story but more of a 3rd person viewing history. LOTR is kind of in the same boat. They should have either done the story based on the Simarilian time period where you had elf and dwarven weapons and armor found all over the place and you had more space for us to create our own little story with in the LOTR IP. Or after the LOTR series. But right in the middle of the most important storyline plot of the IP. Great another 3rd person view.

That silly nonsense that Turbine was speaking about " that your story are the side story that help the fellowship accomplish their goal" that i read around the boards or something silly like that. is just plain stupid. Instead of having to explain why we cant affect the game and create history. you should have taken the game way back or after this time line so we can do what ever we want!

Sheesh Age of Conan got it right! Conan is king we are not affecting the IP already well known storyline. We are free to do what ever we want!!

    Faranthil Tanathalos
    EverQuest 1 - Ranger
Star Wars Galaxies - Master Ranger
    Everquest2 - Ranger WarhammerOnline - Shadow Warrior
    WOW - Hunter

That's right I like bows and arrows.

For some reason I can't this this turning into a StarWars game since it would be competing with Galaxies and end up just confusing ppl; and  Galaxies could turn it around saying they were the first and they are official.
I see it ending up being their own IP like the did with Jade Empire (Brilliant Game).  No matter what they do I can say with utmost certainty that it will be incredible because we've never seen less than that from Bioware.

Honestly, that's the genius of making the second SW MMO based on KotOR... it's NOT confusing, it's a completely different IP within the SW Universe. Even my Mother knew the difference between SW & KotOR when she bought it for her grandchild (although I got the call from her at the store asking if she should buy 1 or 2, lol)... Once you look at the 2 boxes next to eachother, it's clear they're different games...

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

I am a bit worried if all they are doing is taking pre cu SWG and releasing it with more content, I feel like that would be a huge waste of time and Bioware's talent.

A full MMORPG set in the KOTOR era would be amazing and a game that I would actually pay for.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

There was one jedi because all of the others were gone aside from two old men that didn't have the strength to fight anymore.
Star Wars was about storm troopers with weak minds blindly following the orders of corrupt men who blindly followed the orders of other corrupt men. Star Wars was about the smuggler, just trying to get by in the galaxy. It was about the bounty hunter looking for a buck. It was about freedom loving people fighting back against an oppressive government.
Instead of making yet another 'be Luke Skywalker' Star Wars game, why not take a chance and make a 'be anyone else' game? SWG started that way, it was good that way, and it could have stayed that way and been a much better game for it.

ya i agree, an swg mmo would not be like the movies, the whole concept is much deeper then just the movies

BEYOND THE MOVIES is the right way to go

For those of you who says that a MMO set in the timeline of the original movies can't be done, because it's allready got a history....

I got 100+ books, 100+ comics, 100 ++ different guidebooks, rulebooks and RP books to prove you wrong.

Funny that all those writers, managed to write so many stories without wrecking what happened in the original trilogy...While George Lucas managed to rip the magic out of it all by making 3 movies set in a time where there was barely any lore or history to be trapped in.

It's called "creativity" and "imagination"....thats all you need to find the stories, adventures, battles, events and whatnot that happends in the huge galaxy at the same time Luke blows up the Deathstar.

So you won't win the battle of hoth..Who cares? You could easily win the battle of Tunare V or actually manage to blow up the Imperial research facility on Yal'l'dum'b. And yet have time to see Han and Leia getting into the groove at a Rebel awards ceremony partay.

We have a start point, where we know the heroes will be, and we have a end point, where we know where the heroes will be. Thats all...we don't know what's going on in the 99,9999999999999999999999999999999% of the rest of the galaxy and GCW. Thats where the story lies, because no matter how much you want to play Luke, or have Luke hold your hand throughout the whole game...There's only one Luke, and thousands of players....Not enough Luke's to hold your hand.

For me and many like me Star Wars was never about jedi and light sabers. Star Wars was the original trilogy. You remember, the one where there was one jedi and his name was Luke.

I COMPLETELY AGREE!!!! if i recall the box on pre-cu SWG said, "Time for the greatest story of all....Yours!! (it was something along those lines) Playing a game where everyone has the same skills and the same crap is just boring, when it was 32 proffessions, yes you would find someone with the same skills as you but it was a lot rarer. I liked KOTOR, but not as much as the original swg, if they find a way to bring the amazing SWG game back, i would be the first one to buy it, regardless of price.

I agree with you guys to a certain point. for that i wish tha both MMO's could coexist in some way, or that there will bne alot of SWG elements in the KOTOR version. In every starwars movie, except for that horrible ewoks movie, The jedi have always been at the center. Thats a fact. Jedi are loved by many, And so is the KOTOR games, so it makes sense they would make it. BUt what doesnt make sense is for them to make a KOTIOR game that didnt allow you to be other people as well. I for one hope that both of them coexist. because though i love KOTOR i would really like to keep the element of the original trilogy in the game. I started playing SWG back in 2004 for one reason, That was to be a jedi. You can love me or hate me for it, but thats what i wanted. I followed whatever path i had to in order to make it and im glad i did. i loved my jedi pre nge. A new start wouldnt be so bad if you ask me. but i still think that SWg should remain someonewhere.
