Should be an interesting time over the next few months. Thank you for your time.

I'm not trying to discredit you but I've posted this a few times before. They publicly retracted their statement that that they would be sticking with their own IP for any future games. In other words they would be willing to work with an IP outside their own not excluding LEC. Here is a Copy of what was said months ago on their site. Truth is no one knows but all signs are pointing more and more to the cash pot that could be "The Old Republic Online."

bioware has retracted its comments concerning sticking to its own intellectual property. this came up on the "MMO" anouncement thread. (i was telling them the same thing as you and the officials corrected me)

I went back thru the thread and looked, you were right.

To the_one_54321: I don't suppose you have a link to any pages that have the official word from BW execs that they will not be working with any outside intellectual properties for this MMORPG, do you?

    the_one_54321

priestly, henley and woo have been posting on this thread. why dont you just ask them? im pretty sure henley was one of the specific persons who said bioware will not be doing others intellectual property. priestly and woo may have also commented on it. i can try and find a link for you but im really no good with the search feature so no promises.

Actually, One, if you read our posts you'll notice we are carefully NOT saying what it will or will not be about yet.

Except Stan and his dementia about toys from the 80's. But he's out of his gourd and cannot be trusted.

    Quote: the_one_54321

no i was talking about the posts in starwars topics in the off topic forum. im pretty sure that henley has made it very clear that bioware will not be working with outside intellectual property.

I never saw those. But they certainly must have been made BEFORE we announced a MMO. Once again, this means nothing (except that James is as valuable a source of info as Woo) as far as what our MMO may or may not be about.

Between Go-Bots, Captain Caveman, Bionic Six, Dino Riders, Galaxy High, Turbo Teen, and M.A.S.K., we've got a metric pile of properties we can play with do develop an MMO. Heck, I bet if I lobbied hard enough, I could convince BioWare Austin to do a Rainbow Brite game!

And by "lobby," I of course mean "brainwash."

It disturbs me that I know most of those references.

And yes, my comments about focusing on existing BioWare intellectual properties were pre-MMO announcement.

The MOST important thing to remember about Bioware / LA future possibilities: Since the blowup, BOTH companies have had changes, most importantly, the Entire LA leadership.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

LA & Bioware are to announce a KotOR MMO. The release date is late '07. Apparently, LA decided that if everyone wanted to be Jedi, they would make a MMO in a timeline that would allow it. Materials seen apparently look similar to SWG & KotOR, including the duel Ground / Space hybrid template.
One of my sources claims an announcement will be made by the holidays (probably sooner since it is beginning to leak) but they don't know the date. My second source is saying this is what the team will be working on at Bioware Austin, and they consider to be a "Fantasy" style MMO, just set in Star Wars. They are apparently already working on the Engine Tuning, and base Art is begnning.
It was also added that SWG will keep going and will be sunset at the new MMO's release. My second source added they will release a Classic version of the game this Winter, but I have no confirmation source.

No way is Bioware going to be able to pump out a fully developed MMORPG by "late 2007"  they only got the ENGINE a month ago.

Which is highly possible. Either the Hero or the pre-cu engine. I'm thinking Hero since it's newer.... but they have experience with pre-cu.

We don't know how long they've had it, or where they are with it, but IF they're working with Animating Texture models, they are VERY far along... Also, SWG was made & released in 3 years... Bioware has had this "Project" for about a year now...

I'm not saying it'll be out by late '07, but that doesn't mean they set it as the goal... Late '08 seems more reaosnable to me, and falls WAY too close to Nacey Mac's "'08 for SWG2" statement...

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

When has a MMORPG ever released on it's original release day?

If the Old Republic setting is true (or if they are even making one) putting it outside of the regular story, I think that would be for the best not just for a Star Wars game but for all IPs. I like doing whatever the hell I feel like without coming across some arbritrary force saying "You can't do that, it messes with the timeline". Which is why I'm not interested in some of the games coming out. Keep the setting, lose the forced story.

*pulls out crystal ball* I see an announcement saying the release date is set for Q2 of 2008, But it ends up getting pushed out to Q3 of 2008. Just my wild guess.

Bioware hasnt said anything. The whole thing is just another bullshit rumor. And until Bioware does say something, it will remain just another bullshit rumor.

Rumor? well duh... lol... Plausible? Yes.  Is there circumstantial evidence to support this? Yes.

I seem to remember posts in the early days of swg asking for bioware to take over the game lol.  The only bad news, imo, is the rumored connections with sony.

BioWare Corp. Announces New "BioWare Austin" Studio

New Studio Recruiting for Massively Multiplayer Online RPG Project

EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada, March 13, 2006

Canadian videogame developer BioWare Corp. has announced the opening of a new studio, BioWare Austin, based in Austin, Texas. It is the second of BioWare's studios and the first to be located outside of Canada.

BioWare Austin has already begun work on a Massively Multiplayer Online roleplaying game (MMORPG) title; the new game will mark BioWare's debut in the Massively Multiplayer Online space. BioWare has recruited some of the top talent in MMO and RPG development, both to manage the development efforts at BioWare Austin and to collaborate with the experienced team at BioWare Edmonton, to develop a game that combines the best of BioWare's great past games with a compelling persistent online experience. Joining the Austin team as lead designer is James Ohlen, BioWare's Creative Director, whose previous credits include lead or co-lead design roles on Star Wars®: Knights of the Old Republic™, Neverwinter Nights™, Baldur's Gate™ and Baldur's Gate II™. Also leading the BWA team are MMO veterans Richard Vogel and Gordon Walton. Richard Vogel brings 15 years of experience to BioWare Austin, previously serving as VP of Product Development for Sony Online Entertainment's Austin studio, as well as launching Ultima Online™ as a senior producer at Origin. Gordon Walton recently served as VP, studio manager and executive producer at Sony Online Entertainment as well as VP and Executive Producer at Electronic Arts.

dont start singing and dancing just yet these are just rumours

but what if its not? well, first things first........... yay for us the SW faithful WOOOT.... i sat and thought for a while about the said release date (late 07) and came up with this conclusion if its a compleate new build no way would that be the case. or at least not if they wanted to do the job right everyone here knows a well thought out mmo needs to be in pre bata for a minimun of 2 years. ok so in this case that might not hold true KotOR and SWG would be a large part of the design as thay are in exsistance right now and follow with the lore of SW

dont get me wrong here i REALLY want to play a new SW MMO but if its only going to be a mish mash of games I've allready played i dont think ill enjoy it for long if its going to be a mix of thing I've allready done with new added content, thats still exciting i agree, but i doubt it will hold its subs for long unless we are going to get a whole new game.

but this is ONLY if its true Im not going to hold my breath but here is to KotOR MMO: A New Hope

Tin Foil hats dont work.. its all a conspiracy

Many people didn't even like the pre-cu SWG.

If anything, they should base the actual gameplay systems more on the actual KotoR games, which were far more popular than swg ever was.

wait, i thought pre-cu swg was coming with SWG:Complete?

You guys crack me up, you really need to move on. Pre-cu is dead and will never return. Do you really think a company like Bioware is going to come anywhere near the ugly, broken and old pre-cu swg?

Whatever mmo bioware creates will be great im sure, but im equally sure they wont create a star wars mmo. They have a ton of IP of their own to work with, why the hell would they make a star wars mmo? There isnt even a market for a star wars mmo. The only star wars mmo in history only peaked at 300k subscribers. It doesnt make sense guys.

I firmly believe we will never see a pre cu swg again outside the emu. I wouldn't want to grind out 30+ professions again anyhow. And since we're talking rollbackSadly, some doors that close are never opened again.

A KOTOR mmo sounds exciting. I nevered played the KOTOR games myself but I've heard good things about them. However if soe has anything to do with it, which they most certainly will, we cant play it. I for one am exhausted from the 'carrot on a stick' mentality that prevailed during the first two years of swg. Also, soe is not soley responsible for the destruction of swg. LucasArts after all controls the liscense and could have taken it out of sony's hand when the contract was renewed. They chose not to. Having worked with ILM I can tell you that George Lucas is involved with all aspects of his franchise. When soldiers lack discipline the fault lies with there commander.

Someday, im sure this will all be worked out as there is an absolute ocean of cash to be made. Q2 08 seems rather optomistic to me. For now however the continuing drama of star wars online will stay in the failure category of the long history of great successes and utter failures concerning Lucas IPs and the video games generated by them.

How many hackers out there do you think will deal with what has been going on around that project in the past? Why join a project with track record like that?

I said this long time ago, but was laughed out. Open Source does not mean that suddenly everyone will jump over it. In the end, it's became two people, possibly one, that still work on the project. A select few project actually do manage to attract more regular developers, but those are usually commercially backed.

Open Source projects like this are single person's work. Not one person only, but one person that makes things move.

True, oh so true. I hope it true, because I doubt most of you would forget if it's not.

That said, when it comes down to an '07 date: Just beause that's the goal, doesn't mean it's going to heppen. If this were KotOR 3, sure, it's a SP game, but for a MMO it aggresive.... but we'll see...

Well if you ask me, I personally think they should make a Star Wars MMO that is like Planetside. Drop all this tier crap and classes. I just want to jump in X win and beat the crap out of some tie fighters, or get on a planet buckle up my boots grab my blaster and go kill me some stormtroopers.

Imagin being able to be in battles like Hoth or the Battle over Endor, maybe not those exact battles but being in high pitched battles were your heart is racing cause you got enemy pilots on your tale, or that big AT walker is coming right at you and have to find a place to lay low so you dont die. The rush of the fast paced combat.

SWG was boring to all hell, I found staring at the wall more exciting then SWG. Sorry I just don't see the point in making another SW mmo in that way.

To you it's boring, so go by Battlefront2 and you can do all of those things. We're MMORPG fans, if you're not, then why post in this thread? You have your game, now we want one...
