The pics in this review are using the old UI, there's been quite a significant aesthetic update since these were taken.

There aren't really any "newer" sandbox MMO's sadly... The newest game that comes to mind for me that has sandbox elements is Xsyon. There's also an interesting sandbox game called Salem but if you want good graphics you'll probably be dissapointed.

From what I read, the only positive remarks made by those who previewed it were on the feel of the combat system. Everything else seems to be pretty sub-par to me.... so sad.

Oh and Xsyon, very sandboxy. No story, player-created quests, indepth building, crafting etc. etc.

Don't forget about Wurm Online... god if they only updated the horrid animations it would be my ideal game!

I've been exploring the vast new world just about all day now... had a nice settlement starting and then got KO'd by a cricket. You know of any smaller sized groups looking to found a village?

Funny thing is, PoE will be a better successor to Diablo series than Diablo III will be. Oh well, money makes people act funny.

Saga of Ryzom is probably the closest thing you'll get to a PvE focused sandbox MMO... it's free to play but with a premium option of course.

I'm so glad this game is getting some coverage! If you're thinking about playing this game and indepth sandbox games are your thing. do yourself a favor and get Xsyon. It's not perfect, still early in it MMO life with some bugs here and there and …
