After getting feedback from various sources, this is the current list:
Combat:
Does the game offer PvE combat
Does the game support grouped PvE combat?
Does the game support solo PvE combat?
Does the game support raiding?

I eventually hope to be able to encompass all kinds of MMOs but to begin with I will restrict the list to published, client-based MMORPGs (as opposed to MMORTS and MMOTBS)
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll be including some of them.Special thanks to you Gyrus for providing a nice example.
When I finalise the list and get a website up and running I'll definately ask for your help in order to fill out these lists for a…
Thanks phatpetey. I'll definately need some help when I've finalised the list and start classifying games by it. I know a fair number of MMOs myself but far from all and some will have changed sinced I played them.

Hmm.. with that much emphasis on PvP combat it sounds like a niche game, and I had to chuckle when I read the part about people requiring "skill" in this game. Ah, the ever important "skill" ! Other games play themselves…
I didn't mean to say ATITD wasn't historically accurate or such. What I mean is that its enviroment isn't the modern world. this is something that is very important to her.
Looks like OZ will be the game of choice then
Hi.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
-Oz online is a possibility, although it seems to have been very crudely localized from asia.
-The Sims online I've heard nothing but bad things about so far. Has anyone here played it and liked it? (She is an av…
Star Trek online has the potential to be the greatest thing man has ever made (Excluding sliced bread of course) but unfortunately it also has potential to flop catastrophically. I just hope Gods and Heroes goes nicely so they will at least have the…
Seeker: I like the point you make about making progression come in smaller increments. One often says "Ok, Im gonna kill these beasts until I hit the next level/skillpoint/whatever. If you kept hitting them, then there would be less time spend on gr…
I'm sorry Mikey but you can be hard to understand at times as you aren't always consistent with yourself. Before you said there was no grind in WoW and now you are saying that there is and you don't mind.
"That system would work perfectly in a gam…
Have you even played WoW yourself? It is nothing but grinding. Only instead of farming you are grinding quests all the time. Reason I quit playing it. And if you want to do any real PvP you had better spend a few weeks grinding quests to max out a c…
I agree with JoeyNipps. I fail to see how a level based system will reduce grinding. In fact I do belive there will be grinding in MMOs as long as there are actions who give rewards. Even in EVEs' skill based system there is grinding, only it is for…
Im afraid you overestimate EVE slightly. It has number of skills in the lower hundreds range and Im fairly sure it was counted in tens and not hundreds at launch.
Regardless of that, I fail to see why a similar system wouldnt work in a fantasy game…
There is one thing about this progressin system that irks me. Why have skills seperate from levels if you are going to earn them both the same way? Why not train skills with an offline system in the same way as EVE (Where you just begin training a s…
Im sorry but I tend to disagree. MMORPGs do not LACK user created content because it is usually no good. Even if there are needles in the heystack worth looking at, this type of games usually have no direction and no goals to attain. Thus, beyond th…
