daoc has/had those random drops , I don't know if they have changed that, I haven't played it in quite a few years. i remember farming groups of mobs to get good gear /weapon drops.

Tuscarin Glacier raids in DAoC , early on when we would clear it to kill the king and queen, we often had 60-100 people . Those raids often took 6-8 hours . I don't have the time to raid these days though.

I enjoyed the game honestly, i liked most of what it offered but I couldn't get past the feeling that I was playing an arcade game instead of an MMO. i think a lot of factors played into that.
