Everything I've seen and read about this game shows that the only similarity to GTA is being able to run through an open-ended city. /shrugs

lol yeah, the devs have been pretty tight-lipped on how the economy works, but they insist that the player-run economy will be robust and that trading info that you've obtained will be worth while.

The Matrix Online will probably go into open beta in a couple of months, right now it's in closed beta and will be accepting new applicants in waves. I assume that's what you wanted to know.

With MMO's it is almost always more logical to use a keyboard, so I don't think you should worry about using a gamepad.
