it's a good marketing technique. It does not cost SOE anything and they have nothing to lose at this point. It comes off as a bit of a transparent effort to get a few people not to cancel, but business is business I guess. Free trials are next, followed by server merges if they don't get their stuff together soon. I just hope for the people who enjoy the game they do not make it too easy, that would be the ultimate mistake. Just because I do not care for it does not meant there isn't a good niche market for a hard core game.
because double xp is something asian mmo's do to pull in crowds, when a NA release does double p it is usuallyfor something special ...
Uhm... neat
I was not aware that WOW, EQ1, EQ2 were Asian, since they have all done that in the past.
Wait a minute, when did WoW have double xp weekend? It never has when I've been around.
I never once, in over a year of play, ever had a double XP weekend in Lineage 2.....(lord, I wish they would do it) Had them in EQII and a few other games, DAoC gives out free levels...same thing
Wow, this really shows how desperate they're getting and how they know they're disappointed so many people. Nice little gimmick, but honestly doubt its gonna persuade many cancelled subscribers to continue playing.
The free xp weekend is coming AFTER the free month of play is over. If Sigil wanted to use it as a cheap trick to keep subscriptions they would have done it BEFORE the free play was over. I believe them when they say it is a way of showing appreciation for those that have endured the buggyness of the game.
I have several guildmates that have been offered extra free time due to serious issues with their accounts. I see Sigil and SoE both doing everything they can to show appreciation for their customers and fix issues in game.
I'm really get sick and tired of the same 20-30 VG trolls in these forums trying to twist everything in VG around with negative spin. Why do some of yall feel so much hate towards VG? I think the answer is obvious..... It spanked what you thought was a killer gaming rig ! I proved to some of yall that you are not really very good gamers ! It was too hard....oh whaaaa...made ya feel stupid when you couldn't complete a quest without npc's holding your hand through the whole process. You couldn't reach max level in less than 100 hours of game play. I think too many feel threatened because deep down..they know...VG represents major competition to their favorite mmo *cough* WoW * cough, cough *.
I'm playing Vanguard..as a casual player ...and loving every minute of it. The main issue I have with the game is that their are simply TOO MANY things to do....I can't decide what to do next.
Seriously...yall VG haters simply need to just move on already. The game has launched..ALOT of people are having a really good time. The game is going to improve and grow to massive levels. All you haters are coming to come crawling back in 6 mo -1yr...saying..OMG they are really doing something cool here. By then I will be max level ..my guild will all be playing endgame content and yer little newb butts will be begging us for that crazy, kewl, phat , l33t .....loot we find and make. It will be fun to deconstruct it right in front of your eyes..maybe dropping a copper piece on the ground and watch ya dig through the dirt at my feet for it.
I would say they are doing this as a reward to the paying subscribers. They know the ‘Free’ passes will be running out and soon there will be only the customer based left. These people loyal to the game are the ones they want to give a pat on the back to. Also XP weekends are a great way to stress test changes to server architecture. VG will be a contender for the MMO crown; all games take time to get over the launch blues. WoW, L2, EQ, EQ2, UO, AO all of these had launch issues to work out.
...in the end there was no Good and Evil only living and dead...

Yup, to hell with the rest of us that paid $100.00+ for the CE Box. Not as if we deserved a working game, right???

I think the game works - yes their are bugs but EVERY MMO has bugs and unfinished material.
I have never seen a game flop this hard in a long time. It is like amazing how something so anticipated just fizzle right at the pre launch. It was like a movie or something total unreal.
Big ups to the people sticking with though , personally think my time is worth more, but keep on , keeping on . This bud's for you
Jeez
Not much of a gamer then are you? Look over at the list of released games on the lefthand side of this page and you will see at least 10 games that "flopped" harder than Vanguard. Archlord, Auto Assault, D&D Online, Dark and Light, Horizons, etc etc etc.

Ummm I dont get your statement the XP weekend benifits you also . I also have the CE box and I am quite happy that I will have a weekend to catch up to some members of my guild that have more play time than me. The game works as far as I am concerned. I have not run into anything that was game stopping in months. FPS's could be higher but I am ok with my 25-30 FPS.

That's pretty funny considering that Sigil's own patch notes and updates mention memory leaks and chunk problems.
But hey! Your having a great time, who cares about the rest of us that spent the same amount of money, so long as your good to go and as far as your concerned it works, then the rest of us are just useles anyways right?
I think it is just making up for some of the lost XP due to bugs, etc. Guys, you need to put away your beta feelings about this game and play. I too was very skeptical but this one will be a winner. You can disagree but if you have a pretty good rig you will enjoy the game. Change your mindset from obtaining levels and beating others to a certain level. Just lay back and enjoy the world. The performance is improving but you still need a good rig to run it however.
Its only a winner for people who have time to spend finding groups to level up, people who can only play for an hour here or there need not apply.

If the it was me having major game issues and you running smoothly would you give a ****? There are tons games out there and I am sorry you didnt try the game before you spent the money. What I can say is Sigil is working very hard to correct the issues that are out there and things will get better.

That's if you SUBSCRIBE.
People who've had an unpleasant time this free month, due to bugs and so on don't WANT to subscribe naturally. Or at least more inclined not to.
So when you poise a 'thank you' to those dissatisfied players AFTER a period the 'appreciation' could've been received in confidence that all is forgiven, obviously the 'thank you' isn't in earnest and this is just a business move to get at least one more month out of the dissatisfied. Expect it to happen at the end of every single month if the systemic issues continue to be or others flourish here and there.
Imagine a friend having a reason to tell you "I'm sorry"; buys the hallmark cards, balloons, roses and candy, but the only condition is, you have to utterly forgive them before you're given any of it. Yeah, heartfelt.
Anyway, clearly the crowd that LOVES to be carved into more and more of a niche, more and more differentiated from the masses in exhibiting their unlimited faith in Sigil, will eat every word of the 'appreciation' message up and not think twice about exactly when this 'free weekend' falls. Or how much it goes against the previously championed 'difficult' 'challenging' MMO.
Even worse, not all be disturbed by a gimmick like this being pulled so very early in an MMO's lifespan. Do you believe this is a one time thing? That they won't get more imaginative (copy from other MMOs) with it? I'm not the type to spill doomsday theories, all I'm saying is I won't be surprised if there's a "PLEASE COME BACK, we've re-opened your account for triple-rare item weekend!" as other companies do when they start spilling out offers like these.
Attempting to keep a steady subscription base and/or grow it is great...by all means it is. But playing these cards so early? Wow. It lessens integrity and quite frankly alienates me.
I've only seen a handful of games offer "double XP", and none were so quick after launch... Five weeks.
CoH/CoV offers double XP weekends so often now its almost expected - 4 years after release. I don't think it brings in new players, just keep the old ones on life support a bit longer.
SoE did it with SWG shortly after the NGE when they were hemmoraging players... Needless to say it didn't help.
SoE did it again with EQ2 when it was hemmoraging players. It didn't really help either, though fixing the game and releasing it as the Faydwer Expansion seems to have helped quite a bit.
Autoassault sent me an email about a double xp weekend right before they consolidated to two servers.
Horizons did this twice that I remember, both right after an acquisition by another (same) company to try and appease the 3000 or so players... I miss my dragon...
Shadowbane did it once that I remember, right before Ubi closed Wolfpack Studios and the game went into 'free' status.
Basically all double xp weekends do is allow the 'infinite free time' kids to get another few levels in some marathon 48 hour binge, and is a vain attempt to keep the player numbers up. That is all. To believe anything else - such as 'payback for all the bugs' - is delusional.
I do applaud them for trying though... I'd like to see V:SoH stick around long enough to get the fixes it so desperately needs - if only so I don't feel like I wasted $65.

You have no idea what you are talking about.
I played Horizons from launch to Vanguards release and you absolutely..100% incorrect. 3 years in Horizons...playing daily. Never a double xp weekend!
Horizons has NEVER had a double xp weekend...and by saying that...proves..you are completely ignorant and thus..you whole post is not to be trusted.

None of which I'd argue with and as I said, who cares about the rest of us that spent the money right?
I completely agree, there's great games out there but I'm really not seeing how that has anything to do with your comment. Regardless though, as I said, why would you care right, your having fun and enjoying the game. Whether anyone else is enjoying themselves is none of your concern.
<sigh>...everyone look up, the sky is falling, the sky is falling! Worst case, if the sky DOES fall, and VG drys up and floats away, we can all move on to something else. Those who feel they've wasted a lot of time/money will (rightly) complain about it and either find another game, or a different life. Same goes for those who enjoyed the VG experience and felt they got value from it. Either way a double xp weekend is hardly a view to apocalypse.

This is another issue that has been brought up although the CE version clearly states it on the box. You don't get 3 months of free game time. You get 3 months of the Vanguard Players website, which is basically a site to show off your character.

This is only for 1 weekend i assume? That's fair enough to reward (or compensate) the people who preordered or bought the game when it was released and battled through the bugs or patches.
I actually do remember WoW giving double (rested XP) very early, although i don't think it was within a month. I couldn't get a copy for a while and when i did somehow get one (in Australia) i managed to get the double XP 'compensation'
Heres a link i googled about it (from March 2005), THere may be earlier bonuses or free days earlier i'm not sure as i could not get a copy after release but it did happen anyway.

I agree. Double XP is not gonna attract people, not gonna make people BUY the game, cmon peeps, dont be naive. As Tnice said, this is most likely a moderate attempt to mend some of the negativity from the player base due to EPX loss occuring through bugs and crashes.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Wow did the same thing in the early days...they gave out free days to tag onto your billing cycle...so its not an original concept.

Yup, to hell with the rest of us that paid $100.00+ for the CE Box. Not as if we deserved a working game, right???
You people amaze me.
Ummm I dont get your statement the XP weekend benifits you also . Very good point and well stated thank you, I was not seeing it from that side. Dont us CE's get more than 30 days? Ill have to check on that.
...in the end there was no Good and Evil only living and dead...

But hey! Your having a great time, who cares about the rest of us that spent the same amount of money, so long as your good to go and as far as your concerned it works, then the rest of us are just useles anyways right?
If the it was me having major game issues and you running smoothly would you give a ****? There are tons games out there and I am sorry you didnt try the game before you spent the money. What I can say is Sigil is working very hard to correct the issues that are out there and things will get better.None of which I'd argue with and as I said, who cares about the rest of us that spent the money right?

I bought the CEBox and Im enjoying the game since launch. Im looking forward to the double XP weekend as well.
I think the game works - yes their are bugs but EVERY MMO has bugs and unfinished material.
Is the CE Box still available or sold out? My new PC comes next week and I want to install VG asap!
Didn't know about the double exp weekend before I decided to cancel my VG sub last night....
It doesn't change any of the reasons why I left.... the decision stands....
