I actually do remember WoW giving double (rested XP) very early, although i don't think it was within a month. I couldn't get a copy for a while and when i did somehow get one (in Australia) i managed to get the double XP 'compensation'

Heres a link i googled about it (from March 2005), THere may be earlier bonuses or free days earlier i'm not sure as i could not get a copy after release but it did happen anyway.

WoW Rested Exp is part of the original design and was in the game, and the documents, from pre-open Beta.   If you log out in a City or Inn, you accrue 2x exp at the rate of 15% of a Level every 24 hours up to a maximum of 1.5 Levels.  This mechanism was put into place to allow casual players to have a hope of keeping up with more active players.  It works quite well, and since it is part of the original design, it does not unbalance the game in any way.  Nor does it go against any of the stated design goals for WoW.

Now, V:SoH, on the other hand, was supposed to be 'hardcore'.   But, I guess with SoE in charge, things will be going a little differently now.  Time to start to make V:SoH into another SWG-NGE.

So where is the double XP for crafting?

They already have a noticeable problem in that adventuring levels considerably faster than crafters. They are implenenting a further boost to advneturing XP (in addition to the weekend). Crafters are already unable (for the most part) to make gear that is of the same level as what the adventurers are seeing in drops.

The issue that I've always had with "Doulbe XP" or "Doulbe Honor" weekends is that it sorts of cheepens the experience of the game.

Let me be CLEAR on this one, I'm not singling out Vanguard here, alot of games do this. I know you rabid Vanbois are just foaming at the mouth. waiting to pounce on someone who doesn't think Brad was blessed by god when he made this game.

But anyways, I know it's probably just me and I can be admitedly silly when it comes to stuff like this but I've always been of the oppinion that if your content holds true, if the experience in your game is enjoyable than things like this just aren't needed.

EQ2 did this when the servers would crap out or back when experience was hell to get, WoW did this when people were forced to grind honor boringly over weeks just to move a bit ahead and  Lineage1 did this when the first servers opened in NA and they found the populace there less then happy with the grinding.

I realize that it's a quick fix and I don't think it's a huge cover up by any stretch of the imagination for a major flaws but as I said, I do think it's a little lame and cheapens the experience over the long run.

In my opininion from the outside looking in is that this is a very bad sign.   If they are already having to run promotions in the hopes of retaining players, that may be an indication that subscription numbers are falling much lower  then projected.   For a game that launched early due to lack of funds this is a very bad sign.

    Uhm... neat

I was not aware that WOW, EQ1, EQ2 were Asian, since they have all done that in the past.

If those titles did do double xp, It was most likely to celebrate, not to persuade.

My quote should read "free asian"

Only 1700 characters have made it past level 30.  That means if there's really over 100k subscribers only an extremely small percentage are really getting anywhere.  When you start drawing conclusions from the data...

I don't understand why people claim "Desperation" for a move like this. Things like this are not meant to draw in new players, but are meant to:

    - Reward existing players for having to deal with the current bugs.

    - Get a real head-count & test server loads.

Those playing know first hand the Servers are all packed. Hopefully they'll start fixing issues now, and we won't need these weekends anymore.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

Rofl, this game is a very good game now, and it is going to get better and better.  I come here now for a good laugh.  This game will be a success.  And for the op, my free month will not be up this weekend as well as alot if the noobies I see and have talked too that just started.

If fact if you are thinking of playing, this weekend would be a good time to start.

VG FTW!!!  I rated it 7.8.

Probably a gesture of good will.  They game has shaped up very nicely, but the fact remains that there have been deaths due to various bugs.  This might be a way of making that up to folks.

LOL at the folks on this post that think it's a sign of impending doom and server consolodation.

Are you joking? This isn't wow. Getting somewhere is LVL 20 in this game. In our Guild, out of over 30 members, only 2 toons are LVL 20 & 21, and we're all Beta Players. Those higher then 25 are GRINDING Missives & Group Grinding Elite Mobs. Those playing the game are LVL's 16-25 Adv, 6-20 Crafting and 50-120 Dip.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

VG will be a contender for the MMO crown; all games take time to get over the launch blues. WoW, L2, EQ, EQ2, UO, AO all of these had launch issues to work out.
Wtf are you talking about Lineage 2, they had one main issue, and that was the klog in server, which got fixed by the first patch after launch. I know , I was there . Lineage 2 had a great launch with well over 500k at launch time.

    Jeez

Not much of a gamer then are you? Look over at the list of released games on the lefthand side of this page and you will see at least 10 games that "flopped" harder than Vanguard. Archlord, Auto Assault, D&D Online, Dark and Light, Horizons, etc etc etc.

Yes, they definitely need to start up some new servers.  It is getting very crowded on my server and as an uppity high-elf, I like a little solitude.

First off, I'm biased... I play this game and love it. I'd just like to say that this isnt a promo or a desperate attempt to get new players. Some people lost XP as a result of a bug, and others had some hardship due to bugs. This is a way to let them regain some XP and reward people who play for being patient. I would be a VG player without the bonus xp, but I will take advantage of it. For people that bad mouth the game... take your show on the road. We know you dont like it. For me and thousands of others, this game is fun and plays just fine.

So is Brad McQuaid giving up his vision so soon?  Pretty soon its going to be like SWG from no one can be a Jedi to everyone is running around as Jediii.

I’m not too sure what everyone is worried about.  Every game I have ever played has done this.  EQ does it, SWG does it, WoW has rested XP everyday and honor weekends.  Its nothing new, its almost a given when playing a mmo

And there it is !!! Best way to build your game up if you play Vanguard, knock another game.

Cmon MX, your like 10 times smarter than this. I'm not saying I dissagree with you here, lvl 20 is a pretty good level to get to in Vanguard, but by no means is it a stratospherically different or harder than WoW as you guys make it out to be.

No,  that was not a double experience weekend.  Read  what they did again.  They filled up your exp bar with

rested experience.  Once credited, you could use the double experience anytime you logged on until you

used it up.  It was not just for a set period of time.  Granting everyone a specific 48 hour period for double

experience versus giving them a set amount of double experience to use whenever they want is not the

    same thing.

I am not going to try to discern Sigil's and SOE's motivations.  However, I will say that a reward for

subscribing is different from rewarding those who are loyal.  There are lots of people who are loyal and

whose 30 day free trial will not run out this weekend.  What happens to them ?  I suspect they will have to

subscribe and wait until next month's double xp weekend in order to collect their reward.

I suspect they will get a handful of people willing to subscribe, but the problems with the game are so

systemic that this promotion will not significantly affect retention.

This is a nice gesture to offer to those that have been enduring the Vanguard commercial beta.  I had hoped Sigil & SOE would offer some token of appreciation to those EQ3 loyalists.  I only hope that Sigil & SOE will continue working to fix all the mistakes & glitches that was caused by the rushed launch so in the future more potential players/customers will be inclined to try Vanguard.  Not sure if Vanguard is worth chancing the $30-$50 purchase just to try it though to possible players.  To those enjoying Telon, good luck.

Big difference, what WoW gave you had some monetary value, not a gimmick to get some subscriptions.  I was there too, and the reason for the free days was due to the server lag  because of  the booming population not BUGS!

I have several guildmates that have been offered extra free time due to serious issues with their accounts. I see Sigil and SoE both doing everything they can to show appreciation for their customers and fix issues in game.
I'm really get sick and tired of the same 20-30 VG trolls in these forums trying to twist everything in VG around with negative spin. Why do some of yall feel so much hate towards VG? I think the answer is obvious..... It spanked what you thought was a killer gaming rig ! I proved to some of yall that you are not really very good gamers ! It was too hard....oh whaaaa...made ya feel stupid when you couldn't complete a quest without npc's holding your hand through the whole process. You couldn't reach max level in less than 100 hours of game play. I think too many feel threatened because deep down..they know...VG represents major competition to their favorite mmo *cough* WoW * cough, cough *.
I'm playing Vanguard..as a casual player ...and loving every minute of it. The main issue I have with the game is that their are simply TOO MANY things to do....I can't decide what to do next.
Seriously...yall VG haters simply need to just move on already. The game has launched..ALOT of people are having a really good time. The game is going to improve and grow to massive levels. All you haters are coming to come crawling back in 6 mo -1yr...saying..OMG they are really doing something cool here. By then I will be max level ..my guild will all be playing endgame content and yer little newb butts will be begging us for that crazy, kewl, phat , l33t .....loot we find and make. It will be fun to deconstruct it right in front of your eyes..maybe dropping a copper piece on the ground and watch ya dig through the dirt at my feet for it.
Here is the poster child of VG's community. Notice the condesending tone and personal assaults? Is real life that bad you must portray yourself as being almighty in a game? I highly doubt anyone will be groveling at your feet for a pittance in 6 months either. You also seem to be fixiated on WoW, why is that? There are a number of games enroute that will shatter your virtual ego even more so. Unless they totally flop, VG will remain a niche game for the l33tsters such as yourself.

Why is it you seem to think VG is so damn hard? I never grouped and I had no problems soloing this POS. It is the same button mashing concept as any other game out there. Oh, I know, it is hard because most of the mobs in the game have a stun...wowzers! Please, I would really like an explanation of why you eliteists think VG is so hard?? It baffles me......

On to the double xp, well for the people who say SoE has no say so in VG..... How does that bitchslap feel now? It is served to you ALA eq2.

It takes a lot longer to get to 20 in Vanguard and if you don't group it'll take probably 10 times longer. Do you disagree?
