This game was in development long before SOE got a hold of it. So what does that say? SOE totally changed the game in a months time? please.
Aye
They had problems way back when they were under Microsoft. Has nothing to do with SOE with this game.
In an ironic twist of fate, SOE were actually the saviors of this game. Once Microsoft decided they were done with VG, it could very easily have ended up being canceled, or turning into vaporware after all those millions spent and years in development. The fact that anyone got to play this game at all is because of SOE, not in spite of them.
For once, they're the good guys, but even they couldn't save this game from a terrible launch, or from being unfinished.
I disagree, we "haters" don't win anything, the only way we would have won something was if this game would have delivered. Every single (valid) "hater" is here for the same reason: disappointment with a game they once looked forward to. It was never a war between haters and fans.
I simply think the appeal of such games is low, and think that Brad was not the appropriate guy for this project, he can't reinvent his vision, it's dead.
Speak for yourself. My idea of a winning scenario is to see Vanguard fail so miserably that other development companies will see that it's a bad idea to get into bed with SOE.

Seriously , if you think about, they failed once they realized they couldn't keep to MS schedule. That is the only real reason they left, they couldn't keep on schedule throughout the production of the title. Where does that leave the blame, Brad Mcquaid. If they would of stayed with MS you could of bet the game would of not launched at all because they would of been able to "just get it done"
I tried LOTRO but didn't like it. I can't pinpoint just one thing as to why, but it just felt too blah to me. I have a list of reasons but nothing alone can tell me exactly why I can't like it.
agreed. You're not the only one i agree also. i really want to like this game but it's something about it which i can't put my finger on.. it's just blah. so far not 1 single thing has caught my eye or made me say "wow".

Well, it's not like Sony gave them unlimited time either. They jumped ship from Microsoft to SOE in May, and the game came out eight months later, at the end of January.
But what SOE did was give Sigil that extra eight months that they otherwise wouldn't have had.

I don't care who is or was responsible. I just want to see anything connected to SOE fail. It's already working because I see people in a bunch of forums warning developers that if they do business with SOE for any aspect of their game that it will result in a boycott.
Another point--SOE might not be responsible for the fact that Vanguard is just a crappy game but everything that has happened since release has SOE written all over it. From double xp weekends to dumbing down the game in the hopes of attracting more players. I still hold to my prediction that by the end of the Summer Sigil will sell the game outright to SOE.

Microsoft isn't the kind of company to walk away from a product in development unless there are serious issues that they consider insurmountable. If they were truly confident in Vanguard, it would have been published by Microsoft, not SOE.
Apparently, whatever they saw after four years and millions spent wasn't worth keeping, so they dropped the game.
And yes, Brad would be a source for this. They got an extra eight months from SOE, and he *still* said they could have used another three months or so. From where I stand, that suggests they asked MS for another year to get things right, and MS said no, you're on your own. Basically, Smed and the rest of SOE saved this game from the trash heap.

Microsoft did walk away from Vanguard. Vanguard paid microsoft out (which is one of the biggest reasons why they ran out of money).
That 30 million dollar they always talk about? Well, a portion of that went to buying out Microsoft for full rights.
I tried LOTRO but didn't like it. I can't pinpoint just one thing as to why, but it just felt too blah to me. I have a list of reasons but nothing alone can tell me exactly why I can't like it.
What are all your friends who have left VG playing, DMEnoc? Follow them to whatever game they are playing now. Being with your friends is what MMORPG's are all about for me, and probably for you as well. So hang with them until something else is released you all can enjoy. Might be time to re-visit some of your old favorate MMORPG's.
I don't care who is or was responsible. I just want to see anything connected to SOE fail.
That statement is actually the worse statement I have ever seen here on these Vanguard forums Far worse than any fanboi statement. Sorry...I dont like Vangaurd but it seems you just bash it because it is being published by SOE. You should have higher standards than just bashing a game because of what it is affliated with.
Well...its more of a shame for you really, you could miss out on a very good game in the future because you hate the company that hosts the servers. To me that is just as bad as a fanboi blindly supporting a game that is falling apart by the seams.
I had to comment on that. Its a pet peeve of mine....sorta like seeing people banning Disney World because they tolerate gays or banning Wal Mart because they sell Maxim magazines.
Don't throw out the baby with the bath water or you'll miss out on something great and because of your sheer hatred for one company, you'll miss out and never see what's in store for you.

Thats why I am done with MMO's for now. They are playing WoW and LOTRO, both of which are games that I won't play again.
And when I said Haters, I guess I should have been more specific. I wasn't talking about people who had legit complaints. It was for people like Smg77 and Eryns that I was speaking to.

See, I read between the lines of all of that, and what it says to me is that Sigil couldn't meet the benchmarks that Microsoft wanted (like, say, a stable, polished client after four years and millions spent), and it basically came down to them deciding that while they liked Brad and the folks from Sigil personally, it wasn't in their interests as a business to continue funding the game.
It sounds like they offered to let Sigil buy back their own game, but that would essentially blow what was left of the budget for development. While buying the rights and the game would give Brad and Co. their intellectual property, and release them from whatever agreement they had with MS, enabling them to freely find another publisher, the buyback also mortally wounded the game. SOE comes in, gives them an extra eight months of life support to get things together, but with a firm deadline (which was clearly the case, since they HAD to launch when they did) that they'd go live by the end of January, regardless of the state of the game. And here we are now.
But see, here' s the thing-- that buyback never would have happened if Microsoft had been confident in the game after all that time and money spent. That just doesn't sound like something that MS would do.
When Sigil parted ways with Microsoft it looked bad. When they hooked up with SOE the same company that made a clean sweep at the "MMOWTF awards!", I knew Brad was desperate. He managed to bluff the fanbois but he failed to bluff Microsoft for any longer, and I'm very sure he tried with his "vision" BS.
SOE are the scum of the MMO industry and they were the only ones to offer Brad a way to publish his Vanturd. So he made a deal with the devil and became a servant of the darklord SMED, no doubt Brad/Sigil will be forced to cut his/their losses and sell out to SOE. The sell out will probably happen after the first expansion pack that no doubt promises a soloution to Vanturds problems. However it will be a massive disapointment , then Sigil will vanish and try to raise cash for a new project with Brad declaring Vanturd taught him many lessons and he's gonna do it right this time. But this time he really is doing it for the gamers and he's gonna do it well ect ect ect ........
No matter what they do with Vanguard it has an ancient graphics engine, it's like buying a Ferrari and when it's delivered you discover it has a lawnmower engine. Until the engine is replaced that slick design and that aerofoil aren't gonna help you go any faster as your top speed is only 10 MPH anyway!

smg77 I like ya man but you really need to let go of the SOE hate. Take some yoga or breath in and out slowly.
Even you have to admit that SOE is not all bad. They have a very good game with EQ2.
These next 6 to 8 weeks could be the telling blow for Vanguard depending on what they actually can correct in the game.
It could be that this game is slowly beginning it's death-nelle, we'll see. It really doesn't appear as the over-all playablity of this game has improved for the average gaming computer. To me, that is most likely what will drive the nail in the coffin, if it doesn't improve very, very soon...
tis sad to see this happen
By the way, anyone know if Microsoft plans on developing an MMO within the next 2 to years from now?

I kinda agree but my disappointment didnt start with Vanguard, it started with EQ2. I loved EQ, it was my life both as a Verant SOE employee, as well as an avid player. How they could even consider EQ2 a successor to the original title boggles the mind. That is where the true disappointment started.
Then I found something I enjoyed in SWG, and they went and took that from me as well.
Then Brad came forward and said he would make his true vision, the real successor to EQ and I was so excitied. : (
Sad doesnt even begin to describe the emotion I feel now.
I feel used, lied to, and manipulated, and yes angry.
I quit my job over what they did to SWG, I quit SOE over what they did to EQ2, and I quit Brad over what he did to " his vision ".
Random is correct. No one wins anything. In fact everyone loses out. The company who puts out the game, we the players and everyone else loses due to the game being in the state it is.

This is what would happen: I start playing some really great game and start having a blast. I put a bunch of time and effort into a character, join a guild, form a bond with other players. I'm having the time of my life in this game when all of a sudden SOE pulls another NGE.
No thanks, it's easier to just stay away from anything connected to SOE and not go through the hassle again.
Right now I am practically salivating over Star Trek Online. I can't wait for it and I eagerly search the web for tidbits of information about it. But if SOE becomes involved with STO in any way, I won't play it. They showed how little they care for players with SWG and I don't see that they learned anything from their past mistakes.

You do know that STO is being published by SOE right??
Anyways, let's talk about what the term "Publish" means
Publish: Sigil, the company that owns Vanguard, owns all of the rights to make any changes it chooses. SOE does not have that right. SOE, as a publisher does the following things:
SOE hosts the servers in which Vanguard is ran on (game servers, login servers, and billing servers)
SOE hosts the technical forums in which Vanguard provides at SOE.
SOE provides the DVDs, manufacturing and disbursments of the product.
SOE maintains the phone support
What doesn't SOE do as a publisher?
SOE does not alter code
SOE does not create patches
SOE does not answer player's questions regarding gameplay other than technical questions
SOE does not nerf
SOE does not create the expansions
You are so caught up with SWG, you fail to recognize what SOE can or cannot do as a Publisher. In Star Wars Galaxies, SOE was the join creator alongside Lucas Arts. SOE had the power to alter that game as they had the right to. SOE does not have the right to altar Vanguard in any way.
Like others said about ya, its a real shame that your hatred is so blinding that you will not play a game based on such a shallow emotion. If you dont wanna play a game, at least have a good reason.
I guess you wont be playing Star Trek Online either despite SOE will have nothing to do with the development of the game.
This is what gives the "haters" a bad rep. Complaining about a game without even realizing that SOE has nothing to do with it. That's worse than a fanboi clasping their ears shut and closing their eyes and saying "na na na na I cant hear you! This game is awesome!"
You seem like a great guy, but man, let go of the hatred. Sure, I dont like SOE either because of what they did in SWG but I kinda moved on....like 2 months after the NGE. I bought EQ2, and had two wonderful years playing it, despite SOE being the creator.
Am I upset? No, not at all. However, I really feel sorry for you. You'll be missing out on some great games over something that happened almost two years ago.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
I think you're being naive if you don't think SOE has anything to do with Vanguard. Why do you think they were forced to release before the game was ready? Who do you think came up with the double-xp weekends? Who do you think is really behind the new direction of making the gaming easier to attract more people?
SOE controls the money, therefore SOE controls the direction of the game.
And as far as I know SOE is not publishing STO. They are publishing Gods and Heroes which is being developed by the same people working on STO but there hasn't been any determination on who will be publishing STO. You are right, however, in saying that if it is SOE I won't be playing it.
It's not that strange of a concept: It's called a boycott and people do it all the time.
I would also add that SoE doesn't market the game either. Sigil (nominally) does that.
And the fact that SoE provides the servers - at a cost I assume - will be why there hasn't been any compensation to the playerbase: Sigil would still have to pay SoE.

From double xp weekends to dumbing down the game in the hopes of attracting more players. I still hold to my prediction that by the end of the Summer Sigil will sell the game outright to SOE.
smg77 I like ya man but you really need to let go of the SOE hate. Take some yoga or breath in and out slowly.
Even you have to admit that SOE is not all bad. They have a very good game with EQ2.

Just gimme some truth

Bite me, Turbine.

You do know that STO is being published by SOE right??
Anyways, let's talk about what the term "Publish" means
Publish: Sigil, the company that owns Vanguard, owns all of the rights to make any changes it chooses. SOE does not have that right. SOE, as a publisher does the following things:
What doesn't SOE do as a publisher?
