Wow. I am starting to understand why the haters get so nasty.
I never said the game sucked, I still like it.
I don't own an Xbox, PS or Wii. If I did, I'd buy the single player games that come with them to play or maybe a game with multi player modes. I don't play those kind of games with the whole Massive MULTIPLAYER Online Games in mind.
If you start telling me my system sucks and its my systems fault, go suck an egg. The only bottle neck in my system is the CPU but it is still well above the min. for the game. My HD? Not likely, the only way for me to get any faster is to go w/ Raptors in Raid. I have tweaked the hell out of the game too, so that ain't it either. Grow up people.
I STILL LIKE THE DAMN GAME. I JUST DO NOT LIKE PLAYING MMO'S WITHOUT MY FRIENDS.
Well, VG is made with future technology in mind. Even though your pc is good by TODAYS standards maybe in 6 months or a year from now technology will have caught up to VGs standards and you will have bought that new technology and can get better performance in group situations.
Maybe we'll run in to each other in Telon in 12-18months from now
Problem with that is. They don't know what technology will be like years down the line.
EQ2 was prime example. Only now it came into it glory as it so heavy CPU bound because when it was made when there was no super GPU's
I stuck VG on full boot with my 3.6GHZ CD2 and Overclocked 8800 GTX and the game does not look good.
There a few titles coming out which will make it look dated. Gods and Heroes for one
The game is poorly optimised
And to be polite the art work is fecking sloppy with a gazillion cropping issues

I simply think the appeal of such games is low, and think that Brad was not the appropriate guy for this project, he can't reinvent his vision, it's dead.

You make me laugh because you are so ignorant. Vanguard was going to fail with or without SOE. This is why Microsoft dumped Sigil and Vangaurd. They knew what a crappy game Brad and Sigil were designing and just felt it was time to part ways. If you want to avoid something avoid Sigil.

Actually, Sigil bought Microsoft out of the license; hence one of the problems they had with their finances but other than that, yes I agree with you. SOE has nothing to do with this debacle. Sigil is doing *fine* on its own with their destruction.

You can't argue with the walking wounded from NGE, Mr E(get it? wee... christ, I should go to bed). In their mind what SOE did when it released the NGE was akin to murdering every member of their family, and drinking the last beer all rolled into one. Actually, I think more than a few of them would be ok with SOE killing their family, and drinking all their beer, if only they'd roll back the servers to pre-NGE times.
From the day NGE went live, everything in their reality became the fault of SOE. Global warming? SOE. Lost their job? SOE. Taco Bell got their order wrong? SOE.

Eh, mostly humor. Though, I do think the people that are having some problems moving on from SWG/NGE are pretty irrational in their hatred of SOE.
And I do have plenty of Hate. I usually give it out as Christmas/Birthday gifts. Though not so much directed at video games, because, well... they're video games. Not quite on the same level as having ones house broken into, or finding out that that lump is actually cancer, or something. Lately, though, I save all my hate for the lady that lives in the apartment below mine.
And there's also the apathy/cynic angle. I've seen so many crappy games that I just expect them to be crappy from the get go. So when the game sucks, I'm not surprised, or disappointed, and if the game doesn't suck, bonus!

my issue is this .when SWG came out and struggled with the t4600 i was ok with this because the graphics was a leap in technology and when i got my 9800 i was pleased with it .
EQ2 came out and graphically another leap in technology and knew my 9800 was not up to the task and got a x800 which though still not able to get it on extreme setting was amazing and then finally saw it all with my 8800.
Now with vanguard like with SWG and EQ2 i have pushed the setting to full.I did it with those games initally to see what beauty awaits me when the technology gets up to it and what awaits me.
But with vanguard i seen the full setting and at best its EQ2 quality in scnario, tad better in long environmental looks but a step back wards in character animation and spell effects!
So explain why a game which overall is not even more graphically better looking then EQ2 should have a way higher specs?

Because not only did the devs heavily tweak the Unreal engine to try and force it into doing things it wasn't designed for, but they also did it with poorly optimized, shoddy code. Plus, the game's a resource hog, so it stands to reason that the heftier the system you have, the better chance of being able to play it at any decent graphical quality.
The game is "future proof" only because they're hoping that someday, technology will be able to force the issue of stable, polished performance.

Firstly Sorry it has worked out this way for you DEmonic. I am a Vanguard Burns victim myself and i dont think i will ever return at all....however i find your case worse because you still like the game and yet performance issues with the client and low population are forcing you away. I know how big a fan you are from previous threads in the past. I truly hope you can return to find a polished vanguard one day or you happen to chance upon another experience with your friends.
Lidane - I couldnt agree more....i have said this in previous posts however my views are that the excuses that vanguard is built for the future and that it is a totally bleeding edge piece of software requireing current bleeding edge technology to become affordable is either Spin, Damage Control buying time for the developers or complete breakage in the code and utter lies.
- Vanguard is not optimized for, nor does it take advantage of Multiple CPU cores and threads. Why?. Why is it that the client isnt optimized in this way when other available gaming clients on the market now are? Surely if you are building a code base and engine so advanced then you would optimize your application for use on multiple cores and threads as well as single core and thread performance. Not the case here. Vanguard currently offers no clear visible performance boost on my Core 2 Duo system under Vista than my Pentium 4 3.2Ghz. In fact the Pentium 4 3.2 is actually quicker in some respects, but hey vanguard is so advanced it needs modern hardware.
- Vanguard Doesnt Support Enviroment Shadowing, Drop Shadowing. Why. The excuse made by Sigil Development was that the application would have to do this in software thus slowing down unacceptably. However Environment Drop Shadows part of advanced dynamic lighting have been supported in hardware for the last three if not four generations of GPU Hardware since Pixel Shader Version 2. Strange then that a game built with Technology in mind doesnt support them. How much better do your character models in vanguard look during the nightime than in the day???. The lighting engine is also broken severely in places.
- Vanguard Doesnt utilize Pixel Shader 3 Support - And again due to the advantages gained by the far more efficient and advanced shader operations in Pixel Shader 3 for what is to be honest little effort in comparison to the development cycle as a whole it isnt included. Vanguard isnt even using full blown aspects of Pixel Shader 2. This means that there are games and applications surely that exist now using more advanced technology and gaining the benefit of its optimizations that perform at great speeds yet with vanguard i have to invest in bleeding edge hardware because the client is that more advanced?? I beg to differ. As an example i play a substantial number of games with HDR enabled, particularly since it is more highly optimized on Pixel Shader 3 hardware. I turn on HDR (High Dynamic Range) in vanguard and it hammers my performance to a standstill...mmm technology is struggling with HDR at present? The source engine is as old as the vanguard development cycle. They managed it. More like something else is the problem i think.
- Vanguard Doesnt Support SLI or Crossfire Technologies - Again in running an application for the future of technology i would want too use bleeding edge enthusiast hardware in advanced configurations to maximise my graphical experience on the Engine built by Sigil for Vanguard to embrace the future. Ahhhhhh yes unfortunately it isnt supported.
- Vanguard Does not Support or "force" Full Scene Anti Aliasing - This technology is now almost @ Six Years old and has been supported on GPU hardware in hardware through Direct X for a long time now. You really have to ask the question here was this ommission of supported technologies from vanguards arsenal left out due to the fact that if enabled vanguards already low frame count would simply grind to a halt therefore a purposeful ommission. Almost every game i now own is complient whether in software in game options or forced through hardware drivers with a form of full scene anti-aliasing. Vanguard does not support it. I simply cannot fathom this. This product is partially marketed on its supposedly next generation visuals and requirement for advanced future technology to become mainstream...Surely you would include THE technology that has one of the most profound impacts on Image Quality......Unless you knew it was impracticle due to client performance from the get go.
I feel that a substantial argument here is that how can you argue in vanguards need for more advanced technology to become more mainstream in price and for customers to upgrade when it isnt even fully supporting in application code what is available now. It simply makes the justification a mute point utterly.
It is also a crying shame because no amount of increased Clock Speeds, Cache, Disk Speed, Memory Speeds, GPU tech are going to paper over the cracks of bad coding, needed optimization and a stressed engine. Not in a million years. In fact what they will do is introduce for the developer a boat load of new problems and breaks as frailty in the code and the over stressed engine are revealed even further. It is a truly ludicrous assumption.
Vanguard needs no Future technology to become mainstream and affordable. Vanguard needs it priorities setting, its direction determining and its performance issues squashed by code optimization and engine tuning Mr Mcquiad, that is so very very obvious.
However another question rears its ugly head almost three months after release and the recent patch implemented has introduced a raft of Crash to Desktops and Chunk Crashes. Is this code and engine actually stable for a consumer base of hardware at all? Because if it is im afraid Sigil have yet to prove it, and like poor DE the OP and the remaining vanguard fans i sincerely hope for there sakes they do...but always be prepared for the fact too that this game might be asking too much of its dated, stretched engine and unoptimized code and that could be a very black heart to make healthy.
