I hear Blizzard is seeking people for their next big thing. Or the nefarious, rumored SWG 2. Muhahaha! Oh the irony! Sorry, but I couldnt help it.
Let's hope that no one affiliated with Sigil makes it to the new Blizzard game. I actually want to play it. Someone should keep track of where they go so we can avoid any game they come in contact with.
"But I do know that at approximately 4:30PM today, Sigil employees were told to meet outside" From the link. Well, now i'm gonna be wondering all day tomorrow. If this is true, why in the hell would you ask everyone to go outside to fire them. An email wouldn't have worked, an inter office memo perhaps. I mean, what, you lore them outside with false hopes of a suprise company picnic. Seems strange to have everyone go outside so that you can fire them. A hole way of doing things if it's true. I'm gonna dought it though; will see tomorrow. I dunno. Was posted at 10.32 on SV forums. No one from Sigil responded in the last hour. If it wasn't tru, seems like it would be prudent to squash the rumor quickly.
Unfortunately if this does hold true, I'm not surprised in the manner in which it was done. Usually in situations like this where there would be any possible security concern (in terms of the work they would be doing) they most likely would just given two weeks pay or some such and shown the door without much of any notice.
Depending on the workplace environment they will also pack up your stuff for you as well so you don't have access to your station. It's just too big a risk to let someone have access to a company's documents and property in this day and age. Losing their work for two weeks while still paying them will be of little thought to the company, in fact they will most likely do some write-off in terms of accounting anyway for the acqusition of the game.
In a former life I had some good friends who went through this sort of thing and it happened in basically the same way. Only diference was that the studio head was told about the closing the day before in a meeting in the parking lot. He was warned against tipping off any employees and sent home with a fat check. The next day, when the production folks showed up for work none of their key cards worked to enter the building and security was waiting there to 'assist' them with retrieving their personal belongings from the office.
A tough situation in a cutthroat business no doubt. But at the end of the day, the corporation cares more about it's intellectual property than those who authored it. Pretty common practice in the games biz when the shit hits the fan. Too bad good production folk get the shaft while piss-poor managers seem to retain their posts when this happens.

It's from Genda, site operator of Vanguard Crafters. I don't think an Affiliate Site administrator would gain anything by posting lies, so no real reason not to believe it.
It seems after today a whooole lot of information regarding the inner workings of Sigil might pan out. I'm surprised they managed to be tight-lipped this long if something like Brad being absent most of the time is true.

There are a couple of guys over there I wouldn't want involved in a game I was looking forward to. If I know what game Silius is working on, I won't touch it. I hate the attitude some game devs have that they know better than us what we enjoy. He is one of those guys, as apparently were a lot of others at Sigil..... I mean, no one digs their game as much as they do. Of course I wouldn't wish physical harm on them, but maybe a career change wouldn't be the worst thing that ever happened to them.
It sure did seem like this game had scatterbrain going down, for nearly it's entire development... Wouldn't suprise me at all to have found out brad wasn't there often.

Since last year. "
HAHAHA! Oh my goodness! I have the impression some people will soon be tared and feathered. This is gonna be a show. Quite entertaining, I'd say. Given the fact Brad said the fanbois were responsible for the desaster, I can say... I am happy now. Really. Call me evil, if you like, but after all the SHIT we who warned got from the vanbois, defending Brad, this is JUSTICE. I hope they rip each other apart. Act 3: Fanbois VS Brad.

Whether you believe that the Affiliate Program was a good idea or not, the CEO of the company should probably support it. I remember brad looking pretty coked up and sleep deprived at one of the fanguard meetings here before launch...(much worse than he looked at the pre beta vegas meeting)

That blog makes a hella load of sense. Remember back when Beta 3 became Beta 4, in Oct/Nov last year. I'd imagine that was the point where the money men pulled the strings and the decision for a Jan release was made. Brad vanished for about 6 weeks, made a few posts, then vanished again until around release.....
There was even a 100 post thread 'Where is Brad?
That was the point where the brown stuff really hit the fan for him , and he vanished.

No, vanguard was just crap...even in beta, when it was "tough".
I'm an EQ1 player, i loved it when it had hell levels, and boats, and slow travel, and book meditation, etc, etc....it was still fun!

Okay...work to understand this...
I'm not saying it ever was good, did you see me say that ANYPLACE? When things went into beta 4 in December, and Kojan was "released", there were plenty more beta testers added. My point is, that that's when I started to see more and more forum posts about things that were wrong. Yes, I saw 'em before that, but the frequency was much, much lower than before Beta 4. I think that's the first time he probably started to pay attention to what people were saying was wrong. It was easy for him to dismiss the earlier complaints, because there were so few people playing. He could rationalize things, but all of a sudden, there were far more people saying the same things, and I'd wager reality set it.
It was going to release, it was going to release incomplete, and if it was going to be successful, it wasnt even going to look remotely like the game he envisioned and set out to design. As in, the boat sailed, and he wasnt on it.
I'm glad to hear that you were an EQ1 player, it's really nice to know that, even if it has ZERO relavence to what I said, and I'm glad to hear you think it wasnt fun, I must have missed somewhere where I suggested that it was. Curious, did you just mean to hit reply, and not quote, because what you had to say really has nothing to do with what I posted.

For my part, this rumour/pending announcement is a truly mixed bag.
On the one hand, Vanguard was nowhere near ready for release. For the amount of time and money invested in it, the state the game was in on release made it abundantly clear that it was suffering from some serious mismanagement. The fans certainly didn't deserve the game to be in such a sad state. So part of me feels as though it is the just result of poor planning and horrible time, personnel and financial management.
On the other hand, you have to have some sympathy for the designers, modelers, programmers and artists who put in thousands of hours on Vanguard only to reach this point.
Many of them probably gave their work everything they had and then some; some of them undoubtedly found themselves shouldering development burdens they never thought they would have to that were far outside the scope of their work position.
Certainly they were paid for their time, but that isn't the same as the feeling of satisfaction you get from a critically successful project. And of course there is the stigma of having what many consider a mediocre effort at best and a failure at the worst as part of your resum

Now that's what I need, an Uberer, much cooler, and awesomer, SWG 2
Sure SWG 1 is too f**ked up
Doesn't mean they can't go for a new one
Some other company, at least
One that doesn't have to manage 1000000000 other games
BTW for soemthing like this, the "ternination here"
it would clearly be on the news
I mean for a couple days I'm sure
I'm not really believing it
You never know though =0
