Hey guys, OP here. I am not lying about how much I play, I just know how to play MMO's I guess, and I had a good group I always played with to get through all the quests.
Yea I've been playing MMO's since like, 1999 which isn't as long as some of you.. i really enjoyed LOTRO at the start and was really excited to play this new MMO so I did a lot of things. I didn't realise how soon the end game would come . I never even played past 15 in beta!
If you want proof you can check out our guild website's picture gallery:
I am not trying to put this as a reflection on other's play styles.. just seems very very short even compared to some one player games out there.. considering this game was under development for 5 years, not a couple months like some single player games.
Maybe I expect way too much! I don't know, it just seems other games had a LOT more content at release.
Also, my point is not that you should level as fast as me or whatever, just that in a month or so everyone that plays at a more "normal" rate is gonna find nothing to do and drop this game like I have

Having time to set up a guild website doesn't prove how much you played. I know from talking to the level 45+ people on my server landroval that they all play at least an average of 10+ hours per day. So do we take your word for it (that somehow you (who never played past 15 in beta by your own words) are a better player and able to level faster then all of the other powergamers who did play to 50 in beta? No I think I will go with the evidence of people who honestly say that they play a lot to get to that level.

Like what? WoW had equal if not less content on release. Dark Age of Camelot had less content on release. Heck I can't think of a single game on the list of games I have played (all 25+ of them) that had more content then LOTRO has 1 month after release.
Also, my point is not that you should level as fast as me or whatever, just that in a month or so everyone that plays at a more "normal" rate is gonna find nothing to do and drop this game like I have
Why will they drop this game? Because you as a Power Gamer thinks it doesn't have enough to do? Sorry to burst your bubble, but your train of thought is in the minority.
Currently playing: LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too: Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

I don't have a bubble, dear. I WANT to have stuff to do! Oh yea throwing away a month of gaming and 60$ invested in the game is EXACTLY what I want to do... theres just no more reason left to log in.
Basically I wish i knew what the devs were thinking about end game.
if it's good enough for you, fine.
FTR WOW had 20x the content this game does at release. Your comment makes me think you never played WOW at release.

WoW had UBRS, LBRS, STRATH, Scholo and Onyxia at release for endgame content.
IT did not have:
BGs
PVP Ranking
MC
Dire Maul
Maraudon
BWL
ZG
World Dragons
Naxx
AQ20
AQ40
So lets see it had 3 5 man dungeons, 1 basically 10 man dungeon and a 40 man raid for a dragon that is basically just the dragon (with some garbage pulls in the front).
So how is that 20x the content?

Before you spend too much more time on these forums, you should know that they are patrolled by die-hard LOTRO apologists who will dismiss everything you have to say, and when they can't offer a reasonable rebuff to your points, they will call you a liar.
I haven't even read the posts that came after your original post, but I'm sure someone, if not someones, has/have called you a liar.

heh, thus the post of my kin websites screens
WOW didn't have a ton of endgame at launch, but I say 20x the content because of all the instances throughout the game, tons to do.
And the endgame that WOW had, did infact take a heck of a lot longer than the endgame in LOTRO does. You can't play to the end in LOTRO and not admit WOW had more to offer.. but hey oh well right?
Its not just the content, anyways, its everything I listed.
LOTRO is disappointing for all those reasons... especially the phat loot, or lack of .

And here we have LotRO in a nutshell, it is a scripted path from beginning to end - play this way or don't play. Much like a SP game where you follow through unlocking elements and creating nothing LotRO is a jigsaw puzzle you assemble, not a picture you paint. And combat is simplistic and boring and suffers from the same 'play thier way' fate. Want to move and use position or pulling to fight - tough. Only standing still and clicking hotbar buttons is allowed( for non melee characters at least). And that is why I returned my pre-order after a week and a half in the open BETA.
Don't get me wrong, LotRO is a quality game, it is just completely devoid of depth or uniqueness. It may be well made (technically it is the best release condition I can recall for an MMO, and it may be well crafted, but in the end it is not an MMO in so much as I feel I am playing a character THEY created not one I create and develop.
I called it Bored of the Rings Online a while back and all I can see tells me that nickname fits. If you just love LotR and want to play that lore then you will probably like the game, but if you love computer games and want to play a great game first and have the LotR lore second you will probably find it uninteresting.

Of course most MMOs suffer from this. I know the big ones do at least. WoW, L2, EQ, EQ2, DAoC, etc etc. All of them suffered this same combat problems. MMO games aren't difficult and because of this fact they become pretty boring if played for difficulty.
Of course there are always exceptions. AoC might be different. Heck AC1 was different, but that didn't catch on with the majority of gamers. Most gamers loved the simplistic style of EQ. They loved the push button combat and you tank this while you heal and you do damage strategy.
I have said it before to friends and i will prolly say if forever. The MMO genre would be a much better place if Micro$oft spent some cash advertising the heck out of AC1. Then it would of been number 1 instead of EQ and we would all be playing AC1 clones. And be much better off.

Lol, might want to go back a page. If you want to believe I am lying, thats fine. Not sure what I'd get out of lying. I finished Carn Dum last week :P We didn't even try hard, my main guild tank was away visiting his Mom in another country so we had to wait for him to get back.
I wasn't even close to the first 50 on the server/game :P

Yes, I knew this going in, just thought there'd be more script, and more interesting items and crafting to hold my interest.

Once again you post but don't back up your comment about WoW having so much more content on release. Was that a gut reaction statement because you compare a 2 year old game to a 1 month old game? Well then I can ask where is all of WoW's content I mean wow it sure is lacking compared to EQ1 or AC1.
And once again I don't think you are lying about hitting 50. Nor do I think you are lying about completing all of the content. I do think you are lying about the time it took you. I don't care about how good of a group you have. It just isn't possible for you to take 1-2 days off at a time per week, play only 2 hours per day other days in a week and still hit 50 in less then 30 days. Especially not while playing "not hardcore like in WoW" as you said. Unless of course playing hardcore in WoW for you was 4 days straight of playing and then 2 days of sleep and anything less then that is not hardcore. If that is what you mean then I don't know what to say.
Of course maybe I am wrong. Why not just post a screenshot of your /played time?

Whoooa back up a minute here, where exactly did I say I played 2 hrs a day? I said a few days out of that 3 weeks I played 2 hrs a day.
In WOW I would play, Id say 17 hour stints or more when getting to 60 in 5 days after i got good at it. But, theres no way I could have done that in the beginning.. after about 6 L 60's you get good at quest orders :P
I was trying to explain that I played a lot less hardcore then a lot of people did in LOTRO, and yea I had days where I played long 10 hour sessions, but nothing close to what I did in WOW back in the day.
I responded to your comment before you posted that I didn't respond, go back a page.. what I said was, yea there wasn't even close to the end game content there is now, but there were tons of instances to do while leveling, and the end game content that WAS there took a lot longer and gave better rewards then LOTRO's does.
I am not a WOW fan girl by any means though, don't get me wrong. I was having a great ole time in LOTRO, for a lil while.
FTR I am totally completely sick of WOW for obvious reasons, so you can see why i was excited to get into LOTRO.
Another thing, a guy in my guild power leveled his Loremaster with his 50 burglar to 40 in a few days.. he surpassed 1/4 of our guild in levels with his ALT..... if other people catch on to power leveling there will be craploads of bored 50's around in no time.

True in so far as MMOs are about you issuing commands that your character 'executes' instead of actually doing the things yourself as in an FPS or some kind of Oblivion style hybrid-melee system. but even beyond that LotRO is incredibly shallow and boring. there is little you can do to make a character substantively different than any other character of similar level in terms of leveling/developing a toon. And in combat there is little you can do as well. I described it once before comparing it to a racing video game that allowed you to control steering only - yes, in steering you control the end result but that leaves so much out; braking, acceleration, shifting, etc.. It is just shallow in combat execution and in character development. The content issues are real I suppose, most people acknowledge that as a flaw - but that is Turbine; they shipped DDO the same way and didn't skip a beat shipping half the content a major IP MMO would need. I can forgive that a bit because at least Turbine has a history of releasing content regularly. But if I am stuck in a fixed rigid script and not very unique then all I am doing is the same thing DDO was which is the same stupid scripted quest over and over and over (albeit LotRO at least has a mix of script quests and general fetch and kill 6 types giving a moderate feeling of sandbox compared to a DDO style, even though it isn't).
It is just a shallow game, if it didn't carry the name Lord of the Rings it probably would have gotten universally terrible commentary. It only works as a vehicle to experience LotRO; it is a good LotRO game but a bad game that takes place in the LotR world. It is like a food service - get a dinner at a fast food joint and compare that to a fine 5 star restaurant and there is no comparison. But you still might say that Steak 'n' Shake burger is great in terms of fast food, but not in terms of a fine restaurant. So with that qualifier - "for a lord Of the Rings' I suppose it is a good game, but drop that qualifier and it isn't good at all IMHO. I just don't play the games for the IPs, I play for the game and suppose the IP is second.

Well said. Especially the forced/linear gameplay, it reminds me allot of how a single player game unfolds where the picture is already crafted by the devs and you just go about unlocking the elements to show the picture. It isn't that such a thing is a bad thing, it is just a bad thing - IMHO - in a game claiming to be an MMO. Even so, it would be forgivable if the combat and character systems where nto so incredibly bland and shallow.

I would rate LOTRO as one of the most fun MMO games I have ever played. I would only rate AC1 and DAoC ahead of it for that fun factor. And guess what to me that is what games are about "Fun". Nothing else matters. If I am having fun then I consider it a good game.
One thing wrong with what Healz4u said is the comment about PVP. PVM is PvP whether he wants to believe it or not. He might think its not for him, but saying the game has no PVP is just flat out lying. (FYI PVP isn't even constrained to just the fighting aspect, PvP could be competing for resources, mobs, etc. All PvP means is Player Vs Player, not specifically killing each other)
I think you guys are going to need to get used to the linear gameplay or at least know that you will be playing niche game's otherwise. All of the major companies are following this pattern. Craft a RPG with a single player mentality and you will get more players. They don't care about the "mmo veterans" that are losing their challenge. Look at what games are successful in the NA/EU market:
1. WoW - Super Linear gameplay
2. EQ1 - Also linear gameplay
3. DAoC - less linear gameplay (due to RvR) but still just as linear in the PvE category
4. LoTRO - Linear Gameplay
5. etc etc etc.
Bioware is planning to have story based gaming in their MMO as well. Guild Wars is pretty linear. Heck even AoC will have a single player mode before you move onto the PVP aspect of the game.
The days of the "sandbox" game are long gone. The market has spoken in the form of the "great" WoW. That is all developers are going to see, or if not developers then the publishers will push them to it.

I have to agree with many of the comments on the problems with LOTRO, especially the "linear only" part and the crappy itemization ( not to mention the broken tradeskills..)
I picked this game up as a diversion until the next EQ2 expansion came out, but even playing very casually on two characters, I don't think it is going to last that long.
The replay factor is a major issue - sure I could make alts - but why bother? So I can do all the same quests, in the same order, in the same zone, for the same items all over again? No thanks. Unlike EQ2 and other games, it is just too shallow for any really long term playability. Once you have done one character to max level, there is basically nothing new you can see or do. In EQ2 I could have 5 characters, and get them all to 60 and almost never do the same zones or same quests, and even at 61-70 there is much more diversity.
For all it's polish and lack of bugs, LOTRO is a mile wide and an inch deep. I will play it for a while longer - my main is only mid-30 and my secondary crafter about half that, but I certainly cannot see this being any kind of long term commitment like EQ or EQ2 was. As someone noted, this is very much like a single player game in an MMO setting.

Whoooa back up a minute here, where exactly did I say I played 2 hrs a day? I said a few days out of that 3 weeks I played 2 hrs a day. It wasn't that you said you play 2 hrs per each day, you said you took 2 days off during that 3 weeks so that leaves 19 days. Then you said you played 2 hrs per day for a few days so that leaves 16 days. So how many hours per day did you have to play to hit 50 during those remaining 16 days?
In WOW I would play, Id say 17 hour stints or more when getting to 60 in 5 days after i got good at it. But, theres no way I could have done that in the beginning.. after about 6 L 60's you get good at quest orders :P
World of Warcraft was the absolute easiest game to level in of any game that i have ever played. My first level 60 hit it in 8 days played. When I hit 60 I had 300 lockpicking, 300 FA, 315 Gnomish engineering, and 300 Elemental Leatherworking as well. I never ever ever played 17 hours in a day. I have never played an MMO game for 17 hours in a day. I did play Sim City when i was in middle school for 2 days straight pretty much on the SNES. I also played Super Mario Bros for like 2 days straight to beat it when i was a kid as well. But that wasn't the point. My point is that while you think people will breeze through the levels I think you are underestimating how long it will take. My last 60 on WoW took me 4.5 days played to do ( I only leveled 3 guys to 60 total and the last one was my first horde to 60) I play LOTRO 2-6 hours per night at least 5-6 nights per week. My Captain is level 38. I took some time out to help my wife and RL friend level and so i didn't level much for about 1 week while helping them catch up. But even taking that time out I would only be around 40ish. So that is why I find it hard to believe that you can honestly say that you didn't play the game "hardcore" unless you have a twisted idea of what "hardcore" is. Now keep in mind that the Medical community would recommend no more then 1 hour per day.
So what this comes down to is the "power gamer" being upset that their are no uber rewards like in WoW. I see this a lot from the Raid guilds that moved over to LOTRO. They are upset that they won't get better rewards then what the casuals can get. The developers seem to plan to stick to this course. So I guess that LOTRO just won't be the game for the Uber loot wanting raiders. The people that enjoy raiding just for the content will I think enjoy LOTRO though.
I am not a WOW fan girl by any means though, don't get me wrong. I was having a great ole time in LOTRO, for a lil while.

Once again why compare it to a game that is 3 years old or 7ish years old? Of course it will have less to do. The same could be said for EQ2 when it was launched. Heck the same could be said for EQ1 if there had been anything really to compare it to.
What do people expect? Do they expect the game to launch with 3-5 years worth of content? A game with that much content would need to be in the development cycle for more then 5 years and would cost probably closer to 100 million dollars to make, if not more.
Turbine instead is looking at the long term. Just as they did with AC1. They are adding content that the majority of their users can take part in. In AC1 they did this by correctly aiming content where the user base was at. They would have both high level content on ac1 and lower level content. 1-2 months after AC1 launched they weren't working on level 100+ content. There was no reason at all. Level 30ish players were Gods at that time. So the same thing is happening here. They are putting in a small amount of content for higher levels ( a raid instance) knowing that note many are at that level range yet, but are adding a bunch of content at the level 27-40 range (which i am sure they know is where most of the player base is expected to be in June).

8 days played for your first WOW char is pretty good IMO :P
I think it took me 2 months on my first WOW char, 11 days /played.
My whole point was that yea, I played more then the average person, but the average person will be catching up in no time and will find similar issues if they don't fix them.
You know how RELIEVED I was that there would be no big raids in LOTRO? I hated end game in WOW, I never bothered grinding for purple gear, etc. Found it boring and stupid. Also having to put up with 40 people, some which you didn't get along with, just to hope that after a few hours i would get a good drop wasn't my thing. I loved the smaller WOW instances though.
I wish LOTRO had like, 10 more 6 man instances at end game, and 10 more epic books to go through... to tide us over a month or 2 more.
Sure I could go level alts glaore, and have 30 level 50's but because the game is scripted and there are only a certain amount of quests, which I already did, the fun factor is kinda gone.
Oh well if my Kin and I decide we are tards we'll have our L 50's to go back to :P

LotRO's game play is actually something I enjoy, the story based system and linear game.
I hate WoW, and think it is absolutley the worst type of MMO, one that forgot the RPG.
I am far from being hardcore anymore (I used to play EQ for 10 hours a night 7 days a week), casual is something I prefer now
but someone said there was no fun in exploration? that is what I do.. explore.. and its fun. Especially the first time you come across something cool, like the first time I saw weathertop... was totally unexpected as I was hunting past the Inn
For me LOTRO is not a game you rush to the highest level, like WoW has become. People that are hardcore levellers/raiders should not treat LOTRO the same way. For me it is a more casual game. It will evolve over time. I really hope the developers don't stress it due to some people rushing. If I am in the mood for powerlevelling I go to WoW, if I want some hours of pure fun, I pick up LOTRO.
Enjoy a game for what it is, and if you need your fix 24/7, then choose a game that fits your needs.
What I find extremely funny is the fact that the OP keeps saying she isn't hardcore or one of the elitist types that we all saw in WoW, yet on the website for her guild they plainly state raid times and even already have a DKP system set up for the "uber" loot they mistakenly thought was going to come only from raiding.
What we have here is simply another powerleveling raider who didn't get what they wanted and is now crying and wanted the rest of the world to listen to her.
LOTR is not a power game and Turbine does not make power games, they make games that last (aside from the AC2 mistake) and are smart enough to know what the true levelling progression is like in online games. I can guarantee you did hardly any of the actual content in the game to get to lvl 50, because of the pics at your website showing how many of the top end bosses you guys have killed. It is simply a case of rushing to 40s and higher and killing only those bosses over and over and over till you hit 50 and claiming you did all of the content. If you had went through all the content and quests you would NOT have killed as many of the endgame bosses as you have. You even brag on your site about being the first to kill many of the endgame bosses, yet I see no mention anywhere of what server you played on. Most big guilds would post the server they play on so that they can claim the bragging rights.
Now, don't get me wrong, I believe you are lvl 50, but I and many who really play the game to enjoy it, don't believe you even played through a 1/4 of the actual content in the game. If you had played through the quests and the content you would be here saying there is more content than most games have years after they have been released. I am on my main only lvl 24 and have been trying to do all the quests, yet haven't even touched the dwarven, elven and hobbit areas and still have a ton more content than I can keep up with. The same is said with the lvl 40+ members of my guild who quest and enjoy the game due to its huge amount of content that even they haven't been able to complete either.

I even had time to set up guild website.
