No offence but it sells more becuase it has 4 or 5 million gold farmers buying boxs to get access to new accounts.

When the realms stop looking so bloody empty i will assume the game isn't dying. And when their arn't so many people telling me in game and on the forums how they are going to warhammercraft or age of conan, then i will believe the game isnt dieing. And start believing that the mmo market cant exceed the OK gameplay of wow.

Well its true, theirs only about 1300 players per server in LOTRO, and their arent alot of servers

Wow pop is..much higher though I dont have the numbers its pretty safe to assume.

Do I like Wow though because of that? No..your community is full of 9 year old silliness that makes me stupider-er by the minute =3

Um, are we playing the same game?  The realms are very populated, with the exception of a few.  And those few still have more people than you will find on any other major MMO.

Also, never go to WoW's forums to get your info.  Everyone their wines.  And i doubt that even 30% of the WoW players actually go on the forums.  So you're getting your info from a small portion of the WoW population.

And the 4 or 5 gold farmers..LOL, are you kidding me?

I remember seeing a current chart somewhere that shows declining numbers in WoW. Declining numbers as user playing the game and increase in numbers as subscribers leave the game. If I can find these charts, I'll post them up.

Interesting ... your basing your answer on something not yet completed. When beta is over and the game is official and released and you see wow numbers fall by the thousands fast then come on back and have a chat.. Just remember look at the meters warhammer is the highest being waited on and where is wow on the other chart i see lotr and eq2 interesting ...

How many gamers buy games from Amazon?  I never have.

I'll stop at bestbuy, microcenter or ebgames.  And target if I'm feeling spunky.

Yeah i agree that the people on the forums are only a small percentage but every time i join a PUG and in my guild(s) all everyone talks about is those games.

And the realms are dead for the most part theres a quite a few high populated ones, the ones that say recommended or low are dead and dieing, its blizzards own fault they keep releasing new servers for no apparent reason.

It might just be that case for the european servers i assume you are on about the american ones, since everyone i have seen agrees theres alot of dead realms.

As for any other major mmo, tbh i am just going by the amount of people that i saw a year ago, to the amount of people i see now, and it is alot less than before. It is not much of an accomplishment to have more subscribers then a "major" competer who cant surpass 2k subscribers, wows current limit for servers lol

Oh i was obviously taken the piss about gold farmers but alot of those sales are from current subscribers to the game, and those that are returning, theres probably still a few that are completly new but i rarely encounter anyone that is new to the game anymore, atleast not in the numbers i saw like i said a year ago.

Edit just to clear things up i think the game is at its peak and slowly declining its not gonna die like everquest basically did, its kinda hard to do that with 5-6 million players, i doubt theres 8 million they admitted they count all characters of a certain level range. Dont take in to account people with multiple accounts etc

aight, here's my take on it...no, WoW is not dying, but with the release of BC, they lost numbers in the the millions of people (i can't remember how many) of course, they also gained numbers in the millions to replace that which they lost, but WoW also lost maturity...when i went back to play WoW after buying BC, for the first 2 days as a Draenei, i saw no one...then the first person i met on the 3rd or 4th day was 6 years old and hardly knew how to type let alone play WoW, WoW is starting to attract pre-teens and earlier that start fanboy-ism, tell their friends and get the friends to go all fanboy...hardly anyone is anywhere but the outlands, even the capital cities are empty and the people i do see either don't talk, and go about their own business even when you try to be nice by saying hey and such or they are gold sellers...these are the reasons that tomorrow i quit WoW and vowed not to go back until the community goes back to the way it was between OB and the first few months after release

and no, CB and OB doesn't attract immaturity, it attracts the more mature players because frankly those players know what OB and CB are and how to get into them, unlike the 9 or 10 year olds, though there are still immature players, there are less, seeing as most don't know what OB and CB are or how to get into them AND those who do get in, usually don't have the patience to download the OB client. i downloaded the WoW OB client from FilePlanet the first day i was able to [it was also on a Mac then but, oh well]. so did everyone else. and consequently, it took almost a day and a half to download [keep in mind that i was 11 or 12 then and i'm 14 now] i was patient and diligent about it, seeing that as soon as it finished, i would be able to play the most hyped-up game ever...i rest my case

The health of a MMORPG isn't just about its subscriber numbers, but in the status of the low-level and mid-level games.  If those are thinning out, then what you have is a top-heavy subscriber base, and that cannot last forever.

the health of a mmorpg or any games is only about subscriber numbers..or how many copies are sold

    subscribers=money

which in any case means WoW is slowly dying...but at the rate its dying, it may be another 5-10 years before it's dead...at least until AoC and WAR come out, but even then WoW may reign supreme...who's to say most people won't play WoW and WAR or AoC? guess we just have to wait and see

EDIT: btw, if AoC's as good as it's hyped up to be and it gets rated M, i'm definitely playing it...it'll be an escape from those little kids and gold sellers...just cuz most of the 9-10 year olds that are invading WoW more than likely don't have parents that will let them play an M rated AoC

Sorry a good mmo is about the players and the content in which soe focuses on not money or subsciptions. thAT IS WHY EQ 2 IS A HUGE SUCCESS . No kiddies and the community is mature it is a great game .

I am a die hard wow fan but the player base must be slowly dying look at this recent post for and update this week

We've previously announced our intent to merge the Cataclysm and Frenzy battlegroups in order to lower their arena and battleground queue times, and increase the amount of players available for the cross-realm PvP features. Due to the extensive maintenance this merge will require, we're currently anticipating a maximum of 24 hours of downtime for the realms in these battlegroups, which are listed below. We're currently scheduling this downtime to begin on June 19 at 3:00 AM PDT, and conclude at approximately 3:00 AM PDT on June 20.

    Azuremyst

    Area 52

    Auchindoun

    Blade's Edge

    Coilfang

    Exodar

    Shattered Halls

    Terokkar
