The real world has violence. The real world has boobs.

Both are fun and appropriate, in the right context. What's important to ask is how appropriate it is for children. Under the right context it maybe appropriate for kids. I don't think this game is the right context for kids. For this game a Mature rating is appropriate based on the relativistic scale they use. Though I still think its upto the individuals parents to assess the appropriateness for their kids. The rating is just a guid line and by no means law. Porn maybe a big industry in USA but that isn't intended for children either.

This game is not intended for kids. I hope we will all be able to enjoy it without fear that they'll water it all down when the devs see that  kids want in.

Kids too young to know what breasts are won't notice the difference; kids old enough to know what breasts are can't be protected from what they already know. What is the problem here? In all honesty, sexuality in general is one of the most faultless aspects of our humanity - there is nothing disturbing, dirty, corrupt, or immoral about it. Period. The sooner we get past this idiotic demonizeation of our own bodies the sooner we can escape the hypocritical bullshit that spawns controversy like THIS. I say bring on the breasts, the sex, and the eroticism. It can't hurt you. Unless you want it to...

Titties are a wonderful thing.  Everyone should be able to see them; all ages!

Besides they're really just mounds of lard, am I right?  What's so wrong about lumps of fat that have the unique ability to squirt milk sometimes?  =(

Big blobs of fat to some...

Gorgeous globules of delight to others.

People need to lighten up when it comes to this sort of thing. If showing boobs honestly causes that many problems to people, our society needs to reform the way we teach our youth.

Its a succubus... it is a demonic creature that uses its sexuality to prey on weak men to devour them.  Thats a pretty ugly aspect of humanity that children are probably better off not knowing till they are mature. Let kids have a childhood.

Its important to keep kids from these things... exposure to overly sexualized things have been shown to cause developmental problems in children on both emotional and psychological level... and not just Freudian ways.  They might not be causes unto themselves but it would be neglegent to allow a contributory cause to impact the impressionable unnecessarily.  Adults have to be responsible for children because most children aren't capable of doing so for themselves.

That's the point of the rating system. The game will be rated M, Mature, meaning 17+.

Kids under that age should not be playing the game. Adults playing the game with young ones, should take responsibility and make sure they keep the material away from their children if they do not want them seeing it.

Ratings systems exist for a reason, but whiney parents take offense because they are almost being forced to take part in their children's lives.

I think it was roughly a year ago when AoC announced their "Mature" rating due to lots of Blood and gory animations.  The first thing my dad mentioned was "the kids are going to flock to this game", and I think he hit the nail on the head.

Now with the nudity, it adds another draw to teenage kids who always want what they cannot have.  The United States has strict social opinons on nudity, but Funcom is a European based company.  I don't see them completely "covering up" the nudity, but they will probably be forced to add parental options to the EN-US client.

    Personally, I am strongly pro-boobs.

No, they won't. That's the point of the mature rating. It is not intended for children, so their is no viable reason anyone could give for "parental options", as the only thing that would serve would be to point out the clueless parent.

Point blank: If the parent sees their kid playing the game with boobs on the screen, they can ask themselves why their kid was allowed to have access to it before they looked at it.

If the parent is the one who purchases the game with a blatant MATURE rating, they have no leg to stand on in court for asking for censorship. They'll only show themselves for the incompetent parents that they are.

And since Funcom delivers their games mmos by download primarily, there is no chance for the Wal-Marts of the world to say "We won't carry your game with this kind of content". Because they won't be carrying it with ANY kind of content.

FC has covered the bases well, so far. Time for parents to do their job, instead of letting the computer be the t.v.'s replacement as babysitter.

    Um.. no

Lets go back over this statement, if a succubus is a "demonic creature" it has nothing to do with humanity at all by definition.

Spin at as some Freudian manifestation of an aspect of a human's psyche/imagination all you want, thats just the long and short of it...

Let them have their childhood, sure... make them play outside, and pay AoC when they are in bed

Sure the rating system is exists, but it's not enforced by every parent.

Which is why I stated parents need to start taking responsibility.

Entertainment and lore, amongst other things, should not be lessened due to the ignorance of parents.

I for one hope they do have topless woman in game.  First thing i'd do is make a female character and flash the nerdz for money!  Just like in swg how some people would dance for money with female chars and some nerds woudl give items and/or money and not even have any wounds.

But ya im not realy afraid or anything of it either way, who gives a shit about some CGI breasts.  Now ass thats a different story!

If its not enforced by the parent, then its alright.  Their raising their child the way they want too and unless its hurting the child physicaly or creating an emotional disturbance then dont worry about it.

Most stores require you to show ID, hell i had to show my ID or have my mom tell the cashier at walmart I was able to play, and even after i turned 18 I still had to show ID til 2 years later.  So its the parents fault for not taking control over what happens to their child (Maury babies).

I say we start throwing kids in jail for playing games that arent suitable for them, 13-17 = teens E = >12 and M = 18+

Everyone who breaks this law shall be executed w/ extreme prejudice.

Most scholarly studies of demons and their historic representation is such that they have been intended to represent the darker aspect of man kind. But you're splitting hairs.

But back to the topic... "Why are some people afraid of boobs?"... one is the perception that this industry (gaming) is aimed predomenently at children, which it is to some extent. Second is the fact that with that perception any game with excessive violence or nudity are exploiting the natural curiosity of children for things  which they probably shouldn't be exposed to. That is the main concern.

I think that anything that keeps the kiddies away is a good thing.

Too bad I'm sick of the fantasy genre MMOs. I'll look for some other type of MMO to play for a while before returning to fantasy again.

That would make sense, but no game has been labeled as "too violent" since the ESRB been established. Now they just slap a big "M" or "AO" on it. In GTA, you could run up to a cop, beat him to death and take his gun and cash, buy a hooker, then when you're done shoot her in the head to get some cash back. But there wasn't an ounce of media publicity for ANY of that. Not until it actually SHOWED you doing it with a chick did anyone freak out. The game went from a fairly well known series within the gaming community to a national news extravaganza.

In God of War, there is a mini-game where you f*ck chicks and the harder you f*ck them you get life orbs. It doesn't show anything so nobody really took offense to it. If it's merely implied nobody really cares. If it's right there in front of your face people freak out. Stupid as hell.

This is the whole and only reason for it... the USA.. The fact that the usa allows religion to control it..(Fact) the human body even more so the female body is a sin.. and they hide behind the excuse ( Im protecting my kids) bullshit.. protecting them from what a natural thing. the fact of the matter is a sheltered child when they find out about the natural instinct to breed a sheltered child is more likely to do it ( why because its new and exciting thats it )   on the other hand to a child who is limited but not shuned of it  ex: can see rated r movies can see boobs in them and what not. already knows of it already is aware and is more prepared for when nature says hey look at them boobs

    and this is a fact!

And when you here a parent say that its because there probably american  who belives the hippacritical  BS that religion and american government  has put out that the human body is a sin and ( We need to protect our children from it)

Well I for one will be much more concerned with language and violence in movies and games that my children watch/play, but I have never been very religious and I think thats a big part of anti-sexuality .  My parents were always much more concerned about the use of language (especially movies that promote intolerance or unethical behavior) and I reckon I'll be somewhat the same with my kids.

The nudity and violence in AoC seems mostly like a gimmick to me to be honest, but I dont look down on them for that, I like to see unique games.

For those who think the mature rating will keep away annoying and ill-mannered players, I think you are very much wrong .  If we are lucky, the mature rating will negate some of the huge amount of immature players who will take interest in the game due to the violence/nudity, but that would be hopeful thinking IMO.

Still looking forward to giving the game a try though.  Um, the screenshot that I saw with boobs did have a black box censoring the nudity, are we sure that this censoring isnt an in-game mechanic?

The censor was there from the AoC site because that site isnt Rated. In game its a topless Demon.

Nudity and Violence in the game is NOT a gimmick - Its been ever present for 75 yrs throughout the Lore.

Everything you see from the game so far is expected, I just wish there was more things they could add to be more truer - without any restrictions.
