I'm sure competition is nice for you. A person that practically lives in the game they play. Many people like to treat it as a game and just want so enjoyment for the short amount of time they are on. Having others harrasing you isn't a lot of fun generally.
Everyone enjoys competition. It is in our DNA. Do you think life is any different? Everything you do, you are competing with everyone else. That is how everything is(college, work, etc.) Why should an MMORPG eliminate competition? That just makes a game very boring

Everyone is differnt. I enjoy competition in some things though I find it brings out the worst in people. I try to find other reasons to do things these days. For instance I try to limit the amount I play because I know it's healthier for me. This limits the level I can compete with other people in MMOs, but I think it's the better choice.
The only reason I thought EQ was fun was because it was all competition (for exping, raiding, etc.) If you played on a blue server, you would probably say EQ sucked and it was a boring timesink with zerg PVE encounters. But if you are competing with other people, it becomes more fun to do things which would otherwise be boring. That is my problem with WoW. They put in a pvp system, and it has no world pvp. So you arent competing with anyone
LOL... they took out DKs before TBC even came out. So there are no penalties for killing NPCs at enemy towns. The only problem I have is with neutral towns. Guards should not be attacking players for PvP on PvP servers. I wouldnt mind as much if you didnt lose armor and have to pay money for that shit.
If you don't think raid gear gives u an advantage over most people... I dunno what to tell you. You should be able to beat the average player while in raid gear. Raid gear vs Gladiator gear is a different story, though you should still be able to hold your own.
Holy is definitely not the only spec for pallies either. I know prot pallies that can tank fine and do a lot better than some warriors. Pallies were never meant to be damage dealers so why would you expect that?
Also, I'd have to disagree that quest gear was better than Naxx gear. My Grand Marshal gear lasted me a long time. I only found a few pieces from quests that were upgrades. If there were any REAL upgrades I got them in the late 60s.
I will agree with the fact that world pvp is dead. Ever since BGs were implemented it changed the way people PvPed. Why look for trouble when you can join a BG and have instant battles and rewards? Personally I love world PvP and wish they tried harder to bring it back. The objectives they have now just don't cut it and never will. If world pvp is to come back they have to have good incentives now. Most people won't do it for fun, which is really stupid, why roll on a pvp server?
PvE is most definitely dull and repetitive. You're right on that also. Thats why all I do is the arena now and BGs just for the extra pieces. Afteer that I'm done with BGs cuz they suck and are played out. Maybe if they added about 5-10 more in the expansion it wouldve been good. I would also like to see more than THREE fuckin arenas. I mean come on! How hard would it be to make a bunch of tiny maps made for 5 people max!? Anyway, I mightve came off as some sort of fanboy but I'm far from it. I just disagreed with most of your post.
Not really. I enjoyed EQ a great deal though I wasn't quite as wise in those days. I was only a teenager. I did a lot of stupid things like play EQ for hours on end. I played because of the world, exploring the world, and generally enjoying other peoples company. People who PvP probably can't understand that. Like I said it's differnt things for differnt people.

Lol, you say PVE is boring, and PVP is played out. But you only PVP for the gear. Sounds like someone is addicted to WoW. (You find PvE and PVP boring yet you still do it)
Where did I say PvP is boring? I said BG is boring. If you read it you will notice that I love arena. Aside from that I don't like WoW that much anymore. I'm waiting for a new game but nothing is out yet (WAR, Aion, AoC). If you've been doing AB, WSG, and AV since they came out and have the title of Justicar/Conquerer I'm pretty sure you find BGs are played out. The only one I enjoy atm is EOTS. So please read my post before you say I said something I never said.
Edit: and yes I do PvP for gear in BGs. That is my form of farming. I want to be stronger for my arena team and need those pieces to fill in whats missing from the gladiator rewards. Aside from that the arena is the best and funnest thing in WoW right now. Please point out where I said "PvP is played out" cuz I read my post again and still don't see it.

Misread. Anyway, I never said pallys should deal a ton of damage either. But, they shouldnt die instantly without having to use shield spells. Diablo PVP is retarded
Btw 8 million is only the unit's sold if ppl honestly think there are 8 million subscriber's all active in this game there VERY mistaken indeed.
Check out some the server's next time you make a character and see for yourself.
Some server's already have number's issues and there's a mass disbanding of high end guilds as not enough ppl interested in the top end of game.Blizzard would'nt dare let out how many ppl truly are active in this game!

Completely right. That is why they cant have world PVP. What blizzard does is keep creating servers, then they eventually die out. Players can transfer etc. or they can do cross server bgs and never notice that their server is dead. They make a ton of money on transfers, which is why they dont merge servers.. rather, they let a dead server stay dead so people have to pay for transfers.
I'd say they have maybe less than 1 million active, and that is a very generous guess.
Everything I said was true. WoW is just a lousy MMORPG, plain and simple. I cant comment on how it is if you never get to play the endgame. MMORPGs are supposed to require SOME time investment. It's idiotic to pretend that a person who plays 10 minutes a day should have a fair chance against someone who plays more than 10 minutes. To say that WoW is a game only for levels 1-60 or 1-70 is stupid. That's just an excuse for blizzards crappy endgame which is non existant. So, EQs grind was a lot worse, but it was more enjoyable in the end. Even the raids were more exciting, something about EQ raids were unpredictable, whereas with WoW if you beat an NPC once, it's pretty much trivial to do it again. WoW completely lacked any enjoyable PvE and PvP at the end. So I guess blizzards purpose was to make a game you level up to 70 in and quit? Yeah ok. The facts are that companies are making lousy games and the people who are trying to find ANYTHING will flock to them. WoW is just the biggest example of that.. I hope something decent comes out, because currently everything out there sucks. If all MMORPGs are going to be made in the image of WoW(which all these idiots are saying is so "successful"), then I think MMORPGs are screwed. Who would want a game where you log in and anything you do is boring? MMORPGs should be fun to play regardless of what you are doing in them. People just play WoW because every aspect of it is simple, including PvE and PvP. They dont even require skill. In PvP you have to fight the same scrubs over and over, and it doesn't even factor in player skill. It's only these newbies who never actually PvPed or PvEd in WoW that will come here and defend how great their PvP or PvE system is. What a joke
i'm sure you really like hearing yourself talk but the fact that you haven't played alot of the new stuff or seen any of it you haven't got a clue.
for 1. no one BGs anymore its all about the arena now wich is more SKILL based and you fight people on your side too.I say its skill based because you get arena points for winning but you also lose points when you lose,so i pays to be good, and if you suck you won't get anywhere
2. the new gear you get from pvp is just that PVP gear, mostly built for defense HIGH sta/hp and new stat called "resilience" wich is anti-crit.
3. just because YOU thought BGs was boring doesn't mean everyone else does, i had alot of fun in battle grounds. i didn't do it for gear i did it just for the fun in it.you state everything as fact in everything you say.
4. just because (you say) there is no end game DOES NOT make everything else suck.I had alot of fun lvling and running the instances.
5. EQ raids was just big zerg fests didn't take much other than "Tank and Spank" tactics.
6. they added world pvp objectives that was fun as hell. and it incorperated BOTH pvp and pve, there are objectives that raiders need to take over and then do thye raid because there are things the bosses drop that they need but the bosses only drop them when you have the towers capped (lasts for a couple hours after cap i think)
7. HALAA this is a world pvp objective but diserves its own number because it was just crazy fun. there is a town that is controlled by Horde or alliance. on my server (area 52, transfered over from stormrage) wich is dominated by Horde. they have control of Halaa and NPC guards, merchants and quest givers spawn for them. the town sits on this steep island cliff surrounded by water with rope bridges (HIGH above the shallow water) leading to the town. there are 4 bridges and 4 points that once geared turn into Wyvern master things, you click the gear hop on the mount and rain BOMBS down on the npc guards (because they have like a billion HP) once the 15 guards are dead we go in to the center of town and wait for it to cap and us to take control of it. not counting the Horde players that come out of the wood work to defend it ganking you as soon as you land from a bombing run..lol you gain tokens from killing opposing players wich you can use to buy stuff from the merchant there. but to keep people form farming their friends for the tokens you ALSO need other tokens you only get from killing mobs in that area and turn them into a quest giver there in Halaa (can only turn in when your side has control) could also get a mount that was unique looking was an antelope looking thing.

Actually it is 8 million people currently subscribed and paying, whether they are playing is entirely different. They have stated many times what they consider subscribers and it does not include people whose time has expired, nor free trials that have expired or box sales or anything like that. It is people currently paying for the game. Doing a search on this site will bring up the link for this definition, but we are quite positive that it is 8 million accounts currently paying to play.
Umm, have you seen the server list? There are like billions of them. If there aren't that many subscribers why are there more servers than every other MMO combined?

no actually the pve was the best aspect of eq by a long shot. i am not going to keep repeating myself why the eq pvp "system" was garbage or why there will never be another pvp system like that made again, ever. but it is clear you do not want competition, you want to stroke your epeen and bask in your awesomness by being unkillable.
thats pretty sad that you cannot think outside eq, there are some really good games out there that actually thought out pvp instead of just patching it in like eq did. as far as your comments about being able to kill anybody here with deadmines gear, that just throws what little credibility you had before out of the window. you are not better than everyone els, you would get destroyed by someone in full arena gear 1v1 even if you were lvl 70.
whats funny is since you quit before TBC came out you obviously have never even tried arenas. arena pvp is 9875756473x better than eq pvp ever was or ever could be, and you might want to think before you post about something you know nothing about....try it then come talk to me, but until then stfu and play eq since that is what you like.
Ive tried arenas before. I let my friend use my account so he bought TBC and registered it.. Anyway, the arenas were very boring. It isnt that much different than a BG except you get to play against other players every time you kill them.
Yeah WoW competition is real fun i bet. You dont compete with anyone on WoW. They might as well have made it a game where each guild gets their own server, since you arent competing with other guilds why does it matter? It's just a poorly designed & boring game. Oh yeah protection paladins are retarded newbies. To even mention them as decent tankers shows you probably never played WoW past newbie instances like scholomance.
Lol @ the newb mentioning world pvp objectives. How is that real? You fight over something just put there for no other reason other than you to fight each other. If WoW developers had a clue they would have made all the NPCS uncontested and lower the spawn rate.
WoW makes a lousy PvE game, and an even worse PvP game(doesnt have PVP). I don't see what it has going for it honestly
I think it's obvious you need to be able to cause other people discomfort for the game to be fun for you. Just accept that people like differnt things and your views are right only for yourself and whoever else likes that kind of thing. Wait for a new game to come along that satisfies you (if it ever will as not many like losing what they worked hard for in a game).
*shrugs* WoW is good for the MMO market in that independent developers can stand out more so with innovation and still be successful as a niche game instead of trying to be the next WoW, because you got WoW doing that already like a champ. So enjoy the fact that the nubs are off playing their game and we can get together to play ours.

Define me causing people to be unhappy? If you mean PVP, then please see the door, if you don't like PVP. If you don't like raids, you got other MMOs too like Ryzom and company which provide pretty much raidless content. And so on.
You also seem to imply that niche games are bad, explain this logic for me, because I like lots of niche games like Dungeon Runners, Shadowbane, and LOTRO (yeah I pvp, hack/n/slash, and PVE... ZOMG!), which seem to have their playerbases and are not showing any signs of going away. Gee, by your logic, the fact there's a niche market of chess players, they're some how bad and etc. How about Chutes and Ladders? Hmmm.... Me thinks you're just a kiddo with a lack of grasp of the old logic. *clicks iggy on Flyte* Enjoy.

I never said niche games are bad in my post. I didn't enjoy the way you stated your former post. If you are a nub WoW is for you. That is pretty silly. I just returned the jab.
As for what MMOs I can get enjoyment without causing someone else loss through competition. I do it all the time in MMOs. That makes me a boring nub I guess even though I've been playing MMOs since Ultima Online.
If you like Sandbox, PvP with loss of items/death penalty thats fine with me, but stop saying WoW is for newbies. It's for those who want to enjoy their time gaming without having to suffer the realities of real life consequences.
WoW is for nubs, since it's dead easy to go through with little incident. Same with LOTRO and most other MMOs. They're just massively single player games with a multiplayer option builtin. :-P

I see so if a game is enjoyable then it's for nubs I guess. I don't want to play EQ again or any game that requires large quantities of time wasted in small chunks with no breaks so I guess I'm a nub. If I wanted something hard then I'd so it in real life like C# that I"m learning right now. I guess I'm a wise nub at least.

Lol C# is hard? Switch professions plz. Anyway, your arguments make no sense. WoW is a newb game because the PvE and PvP content require no skill. It's just a game made for people without brains imo. The type of people who play WoW remind me of brainless zombies. They keep doing the same thing over and over to get "better gear". Attaining that gear is boring, yet they will keep playing, as if WoW was going to magically get less boring..
Originally posted by Flyte27 I see so if a game is enjoyable then it's for nubs I guess.
Where did I say that? Lemme guess. NO WHERE. So no words in mouth for you! No linky to posty that states that, then you equal LIAR. Got it?

More equivocation and lies on your part. Where did I say this? NO WHERE.

So you want an I WIN button huh? I mean you're about as bad as those kids that whine about lore-masters not being uber against the undead in LOTRO. Or the kids that couldn't hack it as a controller in CoH. Or any other game, where there might be a bit of... lemme think... forethought in gameplay? OH SNAP!
You're just a little nub. In WoW, there is no forethought in the gameplay. Just press the buttons and that's it. No, "gee do I need to see if I do this then that will happen?" sort of inquiries. No, "hey, maybe I better wait for help before taking this one on." And so on. Show me an case where WoW requires forethought, then I'll yield. Until then, you've got pwnt, nub.

Because he wanted better gear to PVP with.
Thats silly to me. PvP shouldn't even have anything to do with gear. Thats why MMOs with PvP generally don't do to will PvP wise.
RPGs aren't really about that. Especially the D&D type RPGs that most games are modeled after.

If causing other people to be unhappy is your thing then the niche market is deffinatly for you.

OH SNAP!You're just a little nub.
