It's a long video that's pretty clear considering it was done using a camcorder. It really makes me want to play the game and really delve into the Tome we'll get to play with. There is also a picture of what High Elves will look like at
Comments
I was at Origins too. I got to play the game a few times but it wasn't really my focus while I was there.
Here are some (crappy) pictures.
Well, you have to remember that these characters are only about lvl 1-3. So they dont really have much to do. Video was pretty cool though. Bout time we get to see the starting characters with no gear at all. Fun to watch.
I sure when you're rank 40 and doing the big cap seiges you wont even notice what you're doing. If it's still the same ol' press 1-6 and click-n-click play it will flow. WAR, at least I think I heard this (I might be going crazy), is not suppose to be ground breaking and will change the face of MMORPG games. WAR will take an aspect that isn't looked at much and will make it the main focus and will do it well (imo).
I like all the old school factors of game, from how it's played out to even graphics (I really like the old DAoC/EQ looks not sure why heh). Nevertheless I do like how it only takes 2-3 cast to kill a mob and not 10.... grrrr....
Still can't wait for beta.... no matter time to play Solitaire!
That looked terrible. Are you sure that wasnt a video of WoW???
No no your mistaking its was Darkfall the game that was showed at Games day and real people have played and are in beta right now!!! Not when im able to claim SSI......
Im sorry Vaporfall isnt coming out i would have bought it aswell. SO ill tread lightly on your dreams.
I'm not getting into any pro-WoW anti-WoW / pro-WAR anti-WAR arguments, I'm just going to express my thoughts, as an avid and extremely experienced gamer, on watching that video.
At first I honestly thought I was watching a video recording of WoW with a new HUD skin (and not very different) and an updated graphical engine.
After watching for a few minutes I actually thought I was watching a very poorly made updated graphical engine on WoW. It was jerky and slow, and things didn't seem to work properly. The barrel battering for what seemed like ages was discouraging.
I don't see anything to make me want to play this game. For a display or demo version you would think they'd be using top-line hardware and making it look as smooth and pretty as possible (pretty in the terms of well-designed and graphically impressive, not all fancy and flowery).
There was nothing new there. MMO players are steadily (well some of us) waking up to the fact that the MMO developers and marketers seem to just be using old nostalgia or board game names and graphics over the top of the same basic database engine with even what looks like the same fonts and text styles. There was no WOW! (Not WoW) factor there whatsoever. Games should be a voyage of discovery and fun, with a challenge and the possibility of failure due to needing to increase your skills and talents. I saw nothing there to make me go 'hey! that looks fun/different/interesting!'.
Yes, I'm aware that it is video camera footage, but I didn't mark anything agains the game for that - only what I saw of the game.
First I would like to thanks Adythiel for these great in-game video. I really like to see footage of Warhammer Online. Most of the video I have seen so far are about PvP. However this video give a greater insight
Strength - Increases the damage you deal with melee weapons.
Willpower - Increases your chance to disrupt enemy spells.
Toughness - Reduces the damage dealt to you from all sources.

Good video! Sure there aren't many neat animations but it is low level..if they had all the spells abilities at that point it wouldn't be any fun leveling.
As for the combat...yeah it is the same old system that will be in place for years and years to come. Sorry but games like Darkfall, AoC, {insert fanboi game here} wont be doing it any different. You have abilities and NPC's. You use abilities on NPC and defeat said NPC. There is no changing that and if you expect anything more then you have your head in the clouds. But in AoC/Darkfall you will need SKILL to kill people...skill at what? Aiming for their head? Using a spell at the right time? Sorry their is just as much skill in WAR as there is in any game in development/alpha/beta currently. Go read up on WAR tactics and abilities. Things like ignoring the tank to go after the healer will get your team killed quick fast and in a hurry. Why? because the tank has a debuff that will reduce damage done to everyone else around him but increase the damage to him. He also gains more dmg the longer you ignore him. So by the time your done killing the shaman/priest/etc the tank is demolishing your squishies/tanks with massive hits. If that doesn't scream strategy/tactics/etc I don't know what does.
P.S. did you watch any AoC videos? LOL and they said WAR combat was boring. Every time I see those videos I just think "FINISH HIM!" if you catch my drift.
I think this is possibly the problem.
Combat in most currently in-development MMOs and running MMOs may be pretty much the same, but I don't HAVE to play any MMO. I expect something better and more interesting for my money.
When I was 7 I used to play a football manager game on the Commodore 64 - yes, a long time ago...since then I've played one football manager game, and it lasted me 2 weeks, simply because it was the same thing as when I was little with a few extra numbers, and each release is pretty much just all about the updated information from the previous season. They may add a tweak here or there, but the games don't really change. I think I've reached the same level with MMOs.
One thing that I noticed from a post in the City of Heroes/Villains forums was the complaint that there wasn't any 'loot', and that there weren't any ways to change your costume, etc. The person (and I see alot of this now) hadn't actually tried to experience the game and discover that gaining a few levels unlocked new things, new costume pieces, new costume slots, the entire huge inventions system (loot galore) and more! They wanted to know everything that was available from level 1, and to me that's depressingly dull.
I enjoyed games like Deus Ex and UFO and Neverwinter Nights because they had something different, and there was an unfolding storyline. Deus Ex, in particular, is still a first-person shooter with skills to decide upon, but there was a real unfolding storyline and augmentations I picked up throughout the story, and I even had a choice with each augmentation of what I wanted to do with it. The development of my character was personal and suited different playstyles AND it was always a voyage of discovery.
I just seem to see people who want new skins on an old game...and it's a shame. We should be demanding more from developers, or just not playing their games until they come across with something new and stop treating us like sheep. I guess if we keep accepting it though, they'll milk us for whatever they can.
Strangely enough, DDO actually has a bit of what I'm talking about - but the gameplay is so slow and solo-unfriendly that it put me off. It's not bad....just a bit dull.
I'm not bashing what I've read about WAR, I must emphasise that - it seemed to have some potential, but, fanboi or not, you must concede that there are frighteningly extreme-similarities between this, Vanguard, WoW and LOTRO, from what I've seen. A few renamed statistics or extra couple of fields in the database is not going to make me switch on.
Yes, I've played all four of those, and for more than a few days.
Warhammer is totally differrent than WoW. WoW you can go anywhere on the map and explore, grind, farm, etc. Warhammer you are put on a set path and have to follow it. That's my problem with it. I like to explore every corner, every nook and cranny without being forced down the "yellow brick road".

Warhammer: you can go anywehre and explore:
Wow: you are set on a path and have to follow it
See how easy that was?
Tell me, what is a lvl 5 noob going to explore in ungoro crater? Locations of graveyards and the fastest way to get from one to your corpse? Do you rush with your lvl 20 mage to silithus as fast as you can to explore it? Not likely. There are 2-4 zones that are appropriate to any given lvl. You go to one of those zones and lvl there, then you go to one of the next 3-4 zones appropriate to that lvl. You could go to a lower lvl zone with a higher lvl char, but I've never seen a lvl 60 exploring ashenvale forest in wow.
War is the same way, you get 3 zones per teir and are free to explore any of them as much as you wish. You are also free to explore higher lvl zones, but just like your lvl 12 warriors wasn't rushing to tanaris desert, you aren't very likely to rush to higher tier zones.
If you felt wow gave you enaugh freedom to explore, than war will give you as much if not more. So can people stop with this "it's linear and I like to explore" nonesense. Or at least compare war to a game where you could actually explore, instaed of comparing it to wow which is just as linear as any other game.
What a really impressive Video Clip!
It showed us that one quest will be open 3 barrels and go and collect your prize - boring!
Go kill spiders in the forest ??? rofl
No females shown?
Familiar comabt interface, we can see what crowd this game is hoping to capture.
Animation for "sausagefest" looked like a bumbling guy with springs for feet. Its going to be another jump fest in PvP! boing boing boing!
Nice auto target.....
Where's the innovation?
That was horrible. Atleast AOC seems like it will be differant, on the lines of combat and such. This really had WOW written all over it. MMO companies and devs are like the music industy today. One label hits it big with a new band or whatever and then every other label follows, with a clone of the origional.
I really think people are getting tired of the same old MMO. There's only so much story and background for elves and orcs. I also believe that most don't like being led down a predetermined path. It maybe easier for devs to maintain a game that is linear and mostly quest based, but playing in a open sandbox world is so much more enjoyable and immersive.
A game that has alot of player made content, a world that can be explored at every differant angle, a really dynamic crafting system, a pvp system that the winner actually changes the overall landscape, and a great combat system, with realistic animations, is a winner in my book. Oh wait a sec, i just described SWG pre-cu. Ole Raph koster was way ahead of his time.
I was gonna say somthing to you and the lady above me but this video and picture will say it all.
Did you see that one guy whizzing around on that shield thing? is that because they can't animate? His legs didnt even move!!!!
Static just like the figures..
Funny how you didnt want to comment on specifics on what I said earlier.
I just felt I pointed out what the game is going to be like, With quests like those and the other points I made - where is the innovation? How does this look different from the most played mmo? Its like a timewarp.
That's not what I mean. I mean in WoW, lets say Barrens....you can run in any direction and go to the other side of the map...it will take awhile, but you can do it. You may pull aggro and die....but you can do it. You can run from one corner to the next without walls on both sides of you preventing you from doing it. IT'S OPEN. WARHAMMER IS NOT! You follow a set path....you don't go, "hey I want to go left...and go left to another part of the map or another zone. You go STRAIGHT...and it widens up as you go. So basically what it is your hand is being held down a set path and, yes it opens up wider but it's still forces you into a direction not by YOUR choice. I like to have a choice. Sorry if I made you pee pee your pants.
Was the Goblin Shaman at the beginning on a platform too? No, what you saw was the Chaos Magus, which is pretty unique idea, a class that is mounted on a flying platform. And if you wanna see some bad animation, just look at this AoC stage 6 beta footage.
Once you go go whack, you'll never go back.
What is this "whack", you say? Check out the links!

Are you tyrying to imply that barrens had no zone walls? You can run from one side of the zone to the other side of the zone in every game.
"WARHAMMER IS NOT! You follow a set path....you don't go, "hey I want to go left...and go left to another part of the map or another zone. You go STRAIGHT...and it widens up as you go. Lol, of course you can go left O_o Listening to you it's like war is some kind fo an fps game, where is there is a pass, you start at one end and move to the other end, and it's surrounded by walls so you can't escape =p Sure you can go to the left, and right and w/e in one zone. Then just like barrens, that zone is connected to a lower and a higher lvl zones, and guess what, you can go there too Or instead of running through barrens for 20 min you can port to a differen't race's zone and explore there.
And no, I am not going to pee pee my pants =p in fact I wouldn't even cry if you don't play war. I am just trying to understand what you mean by "exploring" as far as I am concerned wow is as linear as it gest (like almost all other mmos, except eve and uo) you can go to a few zones to lvl up, and there is nothing for you in other zones ither because you are too high or too low lvl to be there. I just fail to see where you manage to find a difference between wow's system and war's.
PS: No one is playing war because it's innovative and has all kind of never before seen futures. Auto attack isn't exactly a bad thing, although you may disagree. AoC is trying to be new and inovative, good luck to them. War is implementing a better version of daoc (or a wow clone that offers pvp backed up by daoc's ideas, your choice) and that gameplay, is very popular as you can see by the fact that war is one of the most anticipated mmos coming up.
Although, you may be tiered of the same ol' auto attack, no harsh penalties for dieing click on a spell and cast that spell (which is actually the same way in aoc but meh) and so on, but that doesn't mean that all, or even most people are. Oh, well, as long as the two most complained things about war remain "wow clone!" and "zomg, auto attack" it will be a great game
Sorry but you are oh so wrong on this point. In AoC a players skill drives combat so much that it even LOOKS different when watching two different players at two different levels of skill. AoC PvP will be very player driven, no wack-a-mole/hotkey mashing as with WAR.
There have been no pvp videos yet to my knowledge, and all the combat videos release so far have been very close to button mashing. I have yet to see any real substantial proof that the combat is complex or skill driven. Plenty of devs and people talking about it sure... but no real proof.
As for two different skilled players looking different... all I've seen are different people using different combos. Which is no different than people using different skills in any other game. Of course when you use different combos its going to look different..
Sorry.. I hold myself to a higher standard than that. I'm going to need something a little more to convince me. Funcom devs still have yet to put out a video that shows what the combat system is actually capable of. If it is indeed capable of what everyone hypes it to be. No one wants to see how newbie press guys fight after just being handed the game. They want to see what it looks like for the experts. They want to see the full potential. So get on it already, Funcom.
WAR is just another WoW? That's greats, AoC is just another Vanguard. Boo ya.
