War never said it was innovating anything, although they have a few never before seen futures. Aoc is innovating a few things as well. But gui is not one of them =p how are you going to innovate a gui anyway?
And also you apparently hate wow's gui, most people agree that it's one of the best gui's for mmo's and is also one of the things that wow got right.
PS: what's next? a post like "zomg! I want a game with revolutionary gui! I am tiried of the same old hp/mana/exp bars quickbars and chat channel crap! I want a gui that is really new and innovative a gui for hardcore gamers and not one for carabears who want to play elfs!" lol, I bet it's just a matter of time before we see that
100, right. WOW's interface looks like ass to begin with, and WAR completely deliberately and un-ashamedly cloned it almost pixel for pixel. AOC too, if you've seen its screenshots. It cracks me up that these two games claim to be pushing the genre places it's never been before, and then release lol-screens from their own game with WOW's tired old shitty looking GUI.
Considering all WoW did was offer a cleaner version of the UI's that came before it, I'm not sure what it is about their UI that you find so terrible. What sort of UI would make you happier? Especially when we're talking about PC games that generally aren't optimized for the twitch mechanics of console style gaming, I don't see anything terrbile with a row or two of buttons to use en lieu of keyboard strokes if that's your play style. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. At present, I don't see any reason for devs to reinvent the wheel just so their UI doesn't look similar to one of a title that came before it. I think as game technology advances and we see a change in the ways we interact with our computers and input commands, we'll see a natural change in UI.
I'll explain how AoC combat can look and be different for two different people.
Combat is real time, you hit a key (Q, 1, 2, 3, E) and you swing your sword in that direction. You swing in certain ways in order to do a combo. I'm sure everyone already knows this. What makes the combat unique is that things like damage, swing speed, accuracy, are as much based on the players ability to 'weave' attacks together as it is the characters and weapons stats. A skilled player knows what attacks weave together to make a faster attack 'chain', and is also able to make sure more of their attacks line up with their opponent. Someone who is new to the system or doesn't know what they are doing is LITERALLY going to be slower in weaving attacks togetherand less accurate. On top of this, the MOB AI is such that attacking in certain angles is advantageous to other angles. A mob with a shield on their left hand for example, it is smarter to attack towards their right or strait in the middle. But thats not all, the AI adapts. If all you do is spam right-hand attacks, he will change his defensive position to better withstand those attacks. Spamming the same attack, not to mention, is a bad idea in the first place because it slows down your attack speed, as the animation has to reset between each swing, instead of 'flowing' to the next attack.
I really hate to break it to you, but the combos are pre-set. And you have yellow highlighted buttons as guidelines. Just look at the latest E3 footage. They show a guy using a pole arm. You press one of the yellow buttons (Q,1,2,3,or E) and then others light up. You press those and others light up. The max number that can be chained together is 5 swings.
The way you describe it makes it sound really amazing, but it's just not the case.
Every player will be able to do all the same combos as every other player that are the same level. This isn't a bad thing and is very much in-line with all of the other MMOs. The mechanic is simply different. You chain swings together instead of skills.
EDIT: And yes I do realize I'm quoting something 6 pages ago. I just watched the E3 stuff yesterday and thought that it was relevant though.

Oh I see what his problem is. He´s a World pf Warhammer fanboi. GTFO the forum, troll.
Go back to Warhammer were your PvP doesn't mean a damn thing cause it's carebear oriented and any objectives reset every few days to give everyone a fair chance. WAR PvP is turning out to be nothing more then a temporary instanced joke.
I kinda like that thread because the "OP" did not get any of this thread delete, however a lot of yours did.

Obviously, seeing how you are a diehard fan of AoC, nothing anyone says or does will ever change your opinion, so this is a very pointless argument. But, I would appreciate it if you would give me some evidence to back up your statement about AoC having better PvP. If you can do this, then WAR sucks, I admit it. What would be the point of playing WAR when you got fantastic PvE and PvP in one game. So yes please show me. Your time starts.......................now.
You missed the point. Yes, the combos are set, we all know this. Also not everyone will have the same combos. Combos are based off not only your class, but the style of weapon you are using. The point isn't that you have set combos that require certain specific attacks to be chained together to pull off. The point is that what makes the combat unique (besides the fact that it's real time and you are controlling each swing,) is that your attack speed, how often you hit, and your accuracy are based as much off your own ability to weave attacks together and stay on target then in your characters/gears statistics. Just because combo's require the same swings each time does not take that away. Nor does it change the fact that someone who has experience in the system can 'chain' their swings together faster, and thus achieve those combos more often. Momentum in a weapon matters as well. If you try and swing up-right and then again, and again, your going to be slower then someone who swings up-right, then down-left. Thats a basic example. So yea, combos are the same every time you execute them. But that doesn't change the fact that a players ability to both execute those combos, stay on target, and 'weave' attack chains together will be more successful, and thus.. player skill not only matters, but is very important when compared to a traditional auto-target/auto-attack system. Someone might reply. 'Well all someone has to do is learn a couple '3-swing' combos and spam them. No skill there.' That may be partially true. But you can only use 8 combos at a time (out of a list of dozens per player,) and combo's not only take stamina to execute, but have a cooldown. So combat doesn't consist of spamming your two easiest combos over and over, you have to weight which combos to use in what situation, without wasting your best in a short fight. Combined with things like adaptable defense posture, the need for your opponent to be in your weapons 'arc' to even be hit, the need to memorize your combos and weaving your non-combo attacks effectively. It's going to be high intensity and action packed. I'm talking of course, about PvP. And that doesn't even touch on what else will make PvP unique and a freaking blast.
Could you link to this "dozens per player" statement. And that you can only use 8 at a time. I don't believe it's in their FAQ and I refuse to go digging in the AoC forums.
Everything you describe just sounds like skills in other MMOs with different make-up on. You say that you can only use 8 combos at a time. In GW you can only use 8 skills at a time. You mention cooldowns. Skills also have cooldowns and you have to gauge what to use when. They also take stamina (mana, power, etc.). You also have to weight which skills to use in what situation and make sure not to waste a really powerful move on a weak opponent with skills.
Again I'm not sure what you refer to when you say "adaptable defense posture." If you mean changing your stance. Other MMOs have stances that you can change into depending on if you want to be offensive or defensive.
We've already established there's no need to memorize your combos. The buttons are highlighted and guide you through the combos.
I also don't understand what you mean by "someone with experience can chain their swings faster."
The weapons have a certain swing speed, and the swings you chain together are queued up to be executed during that next swing. So if me and you have the same combos equipped and we execute the same one, following the yellow buttons. We'll both do them equally as fast. Maybe you could clarify what you mean by chaining swings faster, because the FAQ says that you can queue up swings, which to me means that there's a maximum speed at which the combos can be executed.

I could not agreed more.
Um.. this post is not only, but it's taken dramatically out of context. The threads OP was posting a valid question about the game. He wasn't even involved. It was Gonodil (who had more of his posts deleted in that thread then I did, as you'll notice,) who was posting some hard-core flame-bate that had absolutely nothing to do with this discussion.
I've already said, on several occasions, that I'm a fan of AoC and that is my most anticipated title. That doesn't mean I'm not looking at WAR as well. I think if I were as bad a fanboi as that quote suggests, (though admittedly I was a bit pissed off that day lol,) I wouldn't even be here discussing these things. Or more likely, I'd be here posting garbage that is meant to do nothing but incite, flame-bate and hate-monger, like Gonodil in that thread.
Don't bother trying to cover up your real thoughts about WAR. Don't worry we won't bite you, we'll just flame you
