Funcom and Eidos today announce a new release date
for the highly anticipated Massively Multiplayer
Online Game `Age of Conan - Hyborian Adventures`.

After careful consideration, and analysis of
recent
feedback from Beta testing of `Age of Conan`,
Funcom and Eidos have concluded that more
development time is required to reduce the entry
barrier to `Age of Conan` and make the game even
more accessible during the first hours of playtime.

The new release date is set to the 25th of March
2008.

The Company Management regrets the delay in the
launch date, but believes the extended development
time will increase the financial upside of the
game
and is therefore the correct decision.

For further details, please contact the Funcom
management.

Funcom and Eidos announce new release date for Age of Conan

Funcom and Eidos announce a new release date for 'Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures'.

Durham, USA – August 10th, 2007Funcom and Eidos announce a new release date for 'Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures'. The highly anticipated MMO is now set to release on the 25th of March 2008. By setting a new release date for the game, Funcom can continue the focus on honing, polishing and improving the heralded qualities of the game, ensuring a fantastic MMO experience when it launches next spring.

We naturally regret that we have to push back ‘Age of Conan’. However, after careful consideration, and analysis of recent Beta feedback, we believe that the new release date is in the best interest of the gamers, our company and our owners,” said Trond Arne Aas, CEO of Funcom. “We are fully committed to delivering games with absolute qualities, and in the current MMO marketplace we know that only the best is good enough to truly succeed. With the new release date we have therefore given ourselves more time to meet and deliver on the massive expectations for the game. We are certain that our choice will ultimately pay off, and that all ‘Age of Conan’ players will get a special online experience."

We are honored by the immense reception our game is constantly getting, with an astounding amount of positive press coverage, awards and magazine covers, but we still see that we need to polish some aspects of the game even further, especially when it comes to the entry barriers,” said Gaute Godager, founder of Funcom and Producer / Director on ‘Age of Conan’. “With the added development time we can now deliver something even more unique and powerful, something which is worthy of the incredible Conan legacy.”

Age of Conan’ is consistently mentioned as one of the most anticipated PC games in development. It has received numerous magazine covers and awards, including 'Best MMO of E3' awards from IGN, GameSpot, GameSpy and Yahoo. ‘Age of Conan’ is a key title in Microsoft's Games for Windows line-up, as well as being a showcase DirectX 10 title for nVidia. The game is currently in general Beta, and applications for testing are available at www.ageofconan.com.

Same old same old.Take a release date a developer of mmorpg's gives and add at least 1 year to that.Look at pirates of the carribean , pirates of the burning sea , chronicles of spellborn ,gods and heroes and so on and so on .....all have been delayed at least once.I don't even look at release  dates any more. They just dissapoint you over and over again.

man .. this is a bad news .. now i'll have to wait for this game to be released in March .. i was really hoping to play this game at the end of the year .. Oh well, hope this game is worth the wait though

  • Hoobley_deletedHoobley_deleted Member Posts: 677

Personally I don't mind all that much, waited long enough already so a few more months won't make much difference.

  • Reduce the entry barrier?  What does that mean?

If anything this is good new for the fans of this game. With the lack of any real beta this close to the original release date it was looking like Funcom was pulling another AO. I applaud them for doing the right thing not the profitable thing.

    fock fock,fock,fock,fock.

That is just ridiculous, really. Don't they have some people that can actually do some time management in this compagny?

This game been in the preview state waaaay to long. It lost its magic and special feeling. What the hell are they doing?

Let me guess. They started to listen to those stupid beta players useless complaint.

Good question!  Maybe changing something about the graphics so that you don't need a dx10 card to play it?  I know that'd be a barrier for me :)

In terms of releases - look at LOTRO vs Vanguard - the Right thing is also the Profitable thing!

More in depth games end up having alot more bugs and or exploits. Better to fix a majority of them now than release and watch the player base quit as soon as they buy it.

Anyway, hopefully its ready in March.

Damn I hate being right.  Sorry fanboys but all of us concerned about the total lack of spell weaving, PVP, crafting etc etc are right.  They just tacked on nearly half a year to the development cycle.  It makes me sad as this was my #1 most anticipated game but at least I'm having fun with buddies in COH for now!

You should all just wait for Warhammer online instead

  • arctarusarctarus Member UncommonPosts: 2,581

I totally agree to the decisions by Funcom to delay. By now most developers know how intolerable players is to half-ars release.. Not only it will give them more time to polish up the game, it will also see more players base have the means to play it in Directx 10 version.

Guess i'll have to stick to WoW for abit longer then...

Yeah it sucks but if it improves the game I'm all for it.  If any of you haven't read the Conan stories I suggest picking up The coming of Conan the Cimmerian and you will not be disappointed.  Might help keep you placated until game release.

Isn't WAR slated for release at around the same time now?

  • DelanorDelanor Member Posts: 659

Good decision for this game. It was clear that it needed a hell of a lot more polishing then they could accomplish in a few weeks.

Great.....as if there isn't enough WAR vs. AoC useless taunting about who is going to have the better game. Now since AoC is going to be released during the WAR timeframe that's just going to get worse. Maybe the AoC marketing people will learn and start pushing out more information on the game so it is accessible as the WAR details.

Better not wait for any game. It will only lead to frustration. Release date will be delayed for any mmorpg.

5 years of development? these guys do make MMORPG's for a living... don't they? Whats taking so long?

  • Riho06Riho06 Member Posts: 431

My inside information is that it didn't have an honor grind or mindnumbing instanced PvP to keep the kids occupied for hours on end, therefore they have added this extra time in order to develop these 'features'.

Then again, I could be wrong.
