Well popularity means nothing to me. If it means that much to you, then well lucky you, Joe Boy =/ . But then that means that the Pop musical genre is the best, and Christianity is the "best religion"? Not my fault that people who rate WoW never played DAoC or UO before, or else they wouldn't give more than 80% for a game with a PvP concept as incomplete and broken as WoW's. Nothing else to say, I guess.

And why would someone care about the opinion of 9 million players, whereas around 8 million never played any other MMORPG but WoW before? Why should I care about the opinion of those 8 million members that started playing MMOs 2 years ago and never played anything else, when there's people around that have 10 years of experience and played 30+ MMOs? I don't give a shit that 9 million players think that WoW is the best shit ever, when 90% of those players are unexperienced newbie players.

1: Saying 90% of those never played another MMORPG is an assumption, not a fact. In fact, I can show you how many mmoropg's LOST subscribers after the release. Second, Half of WoW's subscriber base comes from asia, where MMO's have been very popular for much longer, its very unlikely that a huge amount of asian players never played an MMO before.
2: Nobody said that you should care about their opinion, but keeping 9 million players for over 2 years is something that does indicate quality. combine that with the fact the game receive lots of high critic support and awards and we have a winner.
Wrong. Everquest is the Beatles, WoW is the Monkees. And Ultima Online is Venom!! MUAHAHAHA
Everquest would have to be
1: Better
2: more popular
than WoW, and its not. hence WoW is the beatles.
Unless you're MMO career began in 2004, you'd know Everquest is better than WOW. Granted WOW is a fine title but let's not get silly here.
BTW...never compare WOW to the Beatles..
Do you have anything to back it up? Oh nevermind, I know you don't. you just post your opinion and you make the mistake to think that its fact. Its not. WoW is better than Everquest, there is a good reason why the vast majority of critics gave it higher scores than Everquest. Just because you like Everquest better does not make EQ a better game than WoW.

What a load of horse crap.
do you ever see threads like AoC versus WAR ones where people will be agruing over what will be better and then someone will say "it doesn't matter because Rune Scape owns them both" and then like a billion people flame him for being an artard and thinking Rune Scape is a fun use of time.
Well my point being that just cause that one guy thinks Rune Scape is good, if the general public beleives it is horrible then it's not a very good game. In order for a game to be "GOOD" then people have to like it, and not just some people but rather more people have to like it than there are people that don't like it and then it is a good game.
There are certainly quite a few people that beleive WoW is crap and not as good as Everquest but considering that the general public view WoW as the better game then that makes it the better game. If Everquest was the better game than the general public would play Everquest instead of WoW but because they don't Everquest is NOT the better game.
In order to acheive a clear answer of what game is better popularity has to be taken into account, there's no other way considering everyone has their own opinion. So unless you want to settle on the belief that EVERY game is good than you have to go by popularity.

The best comparison is always WoW = McDonald's. Tasty, highly affordable and accessible. Is it healthy to be a part of your regular diet? Is it the culinary pinnacle? We all know the answer to each question.
Please, comparing WoW to The Beatles is an insult to the latter. McCartney and Lennon(Lennon in particular) both poured their heart and soul into making fine music to please their fans. Chilton? Too busy fucking up WoW's PVP. Kalgan? Can't be bothered to properly balance the classes. Tigole? LOL MOAR RAIDS PLZ. Oh, does anyone mind telling me how much of the playerbase killed Vashj, let alone Illidan? That's what I thought.

And since when has WoW become cheaper then the other MMORPG's? oh..thats right, it isn't cheaper than other MMORPG's.
And comparing a high quality game to a high quality music group is barely an insult. Can't be bothered to properly balance the classes? No, - 10 points credibility for that statement. In the vast majority of patches since its release hae contained tweaks to the classes, and some classes even received a major overhaul of the talents. to saying they can't be bothered to is ignorant, its never going to be perfectly balanced, this goes for every class based mmorpg, including Everquest.
Aside from that, you don't have to raid. oh how dares WoW have content that can be considered an Achievement.
It's not just popularity. It's factual things like polish and stability and lack of downtimes and bugs and technical acheivement. Not to mention how the professional Reviewers from across the spectrum were UNIVERSAL IN THIER PRAISE OF WOW.
It wasn't even close or a question. WOW was reviewed by the real "hardcore", those that do it for a living. And they put the haters to shame. Hating something just becuase it is popular to make u sound cool is adolecent.

Delicious fanboy nerve. Must strike it "Tweaks"? More like nerfs? Kalgan himself even admitted that the paladin class has "gone beyond his control". Meaning he can't do anything to buff the Ret spec and will continue to appease the minmaxing raiders who prefer Holy pallies and Holy pallies alone. I'm still waiting until Ret is not such a joke to even believe your defensive blathering. -10 points credibility? Whoa, my credibility gets "deducted" by some random Joe. Serious business, mom!
Aside from that, you don't have to raid. oh how dares WoW have content that can be considered an Achievement. "Achievement", "hard work" blah blah blah. Same elitist bullshit that brought EQII to its knees because they were "above" WoW in tuning gameplay to suit the masses. The investors back in Vivendi couldn't care less whether little elitists think there should be "content to be considered an achievement" ; they want content that can please the majority of the playerbase. So uh, mind telling me how many players killed Illidan already?

Really? So you work for Vivendi? And who says Blizzard isn't making content suited for the masses? you're acting like Illidan is the only thing at the endgame, which is ofcourse false. Blizzard is making content suited for both the average player and the ones who want to get an achievement. and aside from that, Illidan is still new. One day it will become just like Ragnaros. nerfs are tweaks as well. if a class needs to get nerfed, they will nerf it, its that simple. they have been tweaking them since launch, so they are working on it. tweaking so many classes isn't easy. So basically you don't really have anything to back you up with about the nerfs. Just "omg they're Blizzard, they KNOW what they are doing lulz". It's "not so simple" when a CLASS developer says that a class has evolved beyond his control and that he has no intention to rectify the problems with that class. In this instance, the fanboy card sure is the right one for me to use. Really? So you work for Vivendi? And who says Blizzard isn't making content suited for the masses? you're acting like Illidan is the only thing at the endgame, which is ofcourse false. But I guess you're one of those "I want a cookie and I want it NOW!" people. Former Grand Marshal Paladin here who has raided up until Ahn'Qiraj. Not only have I worked for my cookie ; I've worked for my cake and 3 course-dinner ten times over. What do YOU have under your belt? Oh wait... There's no point in segregating players between "high achievers"(LOL) and the regular ones. Make content accessible but requiring effort. The high end blacksmith weapons and tailor cloth armor were a good start. But no, you just gotta appease that ePeen-flexing 10% of the playerbase with Black Temple and Mount Hyjal. All this "hardcore" bullshit should be a thing of the past. But of course, for some people, ePeen matters that much. Can't be helped I guess.
Gameloading has got to be the biggest puppet i've ever seen. If the critics say it, and the majority agrees it has to be correct. Good thinking there mate.

In this instance, the fanboy card sure is the right one for me to use. While I find the fact that you demand something to back it up`while not providing anything yourself (No, one comment about one developer about a single tree in one class is not evidence) is quite funny, my statement still stands. tget are bothering with the classes because they are still being worked on in each patch. Really? So you work for Vivendi? And who says Blizzard isn't making content suited for the masses? you're acting like Illidan is the only thing at the endgame, which is ofcourse false. Thats just your opinion on how a game should be like, its not fact (I know, hard to accept eh?). many MMO's have achievements in the forms of raids, including Everquest, Everquest 2, FFXI, Lineage 2 etc etc. some people like a good challenge, an a raid is what delivers that challenge. There are now multiple ways to get epic equipment. Through factions, crafting, heroic dungeons, pvp and raiding. If you don't want to raid, you don't have to, but you seem to ignore that fact on purpose.

Second, Half of WoW's subscriber base comes from asia, where MMO's have been very popular for much longer, its very unlikely that a huge amount of asian players never played an MMO before.2: Nobody said that you should care about their opinion, but keeping 9 million players for over 2 years is something that does indicate quality. combine that with the fact the game receive lots of high critic support and awards and we have a winner.
Just because you like Everquest better does not make EQ a better game than WoW.
and for the record, not everyone cares about PVP, nor does everyone agrees that DAoC or UO had better pvp.
Just like not everyone thinks that WoW is better than Everquest or that the Beatles are better than The Monkees. You said it yourself, want a cookie now?
But just because some people don't think that wow is better than Everquest does not mean that WoW isn't better than Everquest.

completely agreed.
defining wether someing is better or not (as far as gaming goes) IS reliant on popularity. Games aren't the same as religion, just because some people don't feel the same way as the vast majority doesn't mean that they're also right.
Defining whether a game is better or not is defined by popularity? oh please. Everyone has their own definition of "better." Just cause everyone plays one game doesnt make it the best out there.
-Snowman <- this name was taken.....but I like it more
yay just like the beatles and elvis Wow is popular but it sucks
Before TECHNO and TRANCE there was only shit

Must strike it
"Tweaks"? More like nerfs? Kalgan himself even admitted that the paladin class has "gone beyond his control". Meaning he can't do anything to buff the Ret spec and will continue to appease the minmaxing raiders who prefer Holy pallies and Holy pallies alone. I'm still waiting until Ret is not such a joke to even believe your defensive blathering.
-10 points credibility? Whoa, my credibility gets "deducted" by some random Joe. Serious business, mom!

nerfs are tweaks as well. if a class needs to get nerfed, they will nerf it, its that simple. they have been tweaking them since launch, so they are working on it. tweaking so many classes isn't easy.

There we go: We have "at least" one intelligent poster on this forum. Make that 2 with me
What deserves to be done, deserves to be "well" done...
YEP AND THE BEATLES SUCK. ITS ALL JUST MAINSTREAM POO PEOPLE WANT TO BE A PART OF
Gameloading has got to be the biggest puppet i've ever seen. If the critics say it, and the majority agrees it has to be correct. Good thinking there mate.
