My alt is a bear Shaman, and I have come to realize it is not an easy class to play.  It is a fun class, but it is at least hard for me to play one. Heh.

I am glad you will have an opportunity to come back.

I had many friends that played when the game released, and told me to stay away until everything is fixed.

Am I to believe that the game is worth buying now?  It's puzzling after being out this long they don't offer a free trial.  Hopefully now that the issue's are corrected they'll add a trial so that people can buy the game in good faith.

From many descriptions and screen shots the game look an awful like Eq2  . . . would eq2 be the closest comparison of a game to VG?

As far as i am aware they are working on 'trial Island"for release early next year,Or you could keep checking this forum over the next few days as players who cancled there account for at least 60 days are getting a 15 day trial to see for themselves how the game is now and I am sure a few will post there findings here.

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

    +1

    My favorite MMOS:

    1° Dark Age of Camelot

2° Vanguard (EQ1 like, old school MMO)

    3° Eve online

    4° Everquest II

Tried Lotro, Tabula Rasa and so on... but stopped...

since gameupdate3/holiday update has been released the performance has been amazing.  the only thing that sucks for me is.  the guild i was in got disband just before the update.  so now im searching for a new one on sartok FFA.

    P.S. Sartok was Ebonlores server

Try to remember all that when referring to VG is fixed that VG was never broke! Now certain parts of VG were broke like code/performance and maybe class balance etc. But the basics of the game are not broke, they might not be your tasts sometimes but they are not broke! If you dont like the gameplay then stop waiting for it to be fixed, it wont ever change for you. If it's only bugs and performance you are waiting for then wait a bit longer to be blunt. there are still some bugs and performance could still be better. If you dont mind the minor things and are prepared to look past them untill they are fixed then by all means hop in and try it. And VG will never be "finished" either! it's a dynamic mmo that has no end and will constantly evolve untill SOE decide to call it a day, which lets face it is going to be a while.

Oh ye and to the guys/girls getting at vulture for his response to a post...are you kidding? he applauded a post and got it in the neck for trolling lol....do you realise what 80% of people reading that were probably thinking? Ok now i can't be sure they were thinking the same as me but if i had to bet i would put £100 that 80% were thinking the same thing......GET A GRIP!

  • truenorthbgtruenorthbg Member Posts: 1,453

When I said finished, I meant what was promised at release.

I think you made a good point that Vanguard is so huge and dynamic of an MMORPG, it is plausible and fair to say it will never be really "finished."  I would like to see some very interesting content completed, though, and I would love to play an Inquisitor (tank with pscionist abilities? ouch).

I am excited and enjoy the game a lot.  I should be getting my APW key tomorrow.

All MMOs are dynamic in scope and never really finished.  That is the entire nature of the game and not something unique to VG.

That aside I would not say VG is fixed.  So far I have had several crashes to desktop, world objects disappearing or not rendering at all, character animations freezing in place while still in motion, mobs coming from the bottom of the world, screen turning all black save player/creature names and a host of other graphical abnormalities.  The spawn rate is really out of whack too.  I can kill a mob and it will sometimes respawn and attack me while I am still looting the corpse.  After a few spawn cycles it tends to even out, but still really crazy in certain areas.

As strange as it is, I had better performance and no real bugs a few months ago when I played.  The game is still playable, but there shouldn't be this many issues this far along in the game.

I am not sure what you mean by "dynamic in scope," as I tend to not understand what you post.

Nevertheless, I think i understand what you perhaps intended to say.  You are generally correct that in the sense that MMORPGs are dynamic (constantly changing) and not static, they are not complete.  The constant change of MMORPGs with expansions, additions, and so forth prevent one from saying, at any one time, "this game is finished."  [We already settled that, though.]

As to your performance issues, I know of no one but you that has those you described.  You seem to be a person with bad luck, generally.

My post was clear enough to convey my point, sorry you can't understand it.

I'm not the only one who has posted having problems and I am sorry you chose to instead make a generalization about my luck as if you know me well enough.

I've had those very same issues as well as have many other people.  Have you ever actually visited the official technical forum?  Your denial does not invalidate the prolbems the game still has.  Personally, I peg you as either a developer in disguise or a fanboi who is taking viral marketing to the extreme.  Either way, people should take your statements and hyperboles with several grains of salt.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

Im not a soe fanboi or a hater either im just a guy looking for a good game and i realize it sucked at releasewith all the bugs and shoddy performance but im also willing to give it another try to at least see if its changed any. Gonna give it a go and ill post later on this week and give some input on how its going. Hopefully i wont get caught up in all this SOE is the devil crap as well as the SOE fanbois fangirls etc. Ill let you know if it sucks or its better now. Just a neutral observers two cents.

I enjoy posting on MMORPG, and if it were not for those calling me a fan and viral marketer, do you think I would be posting right now?  They are a large part of my entertainment, which is why I do not report but actually should probably thank them.

Vanguard is fixed, in my view:

    • Performance Improvements
    • Bug Fixes
    • Class Corrections
    • Character Occlusions
    • Other

I think for stating the above some think you are a viral marketerer.  When I take-on, confront, and do not give an inch to those who mislead with "impressions" and "reviews" I am accused of being a fanboy and/or for using fanboy mechanisms.

I know an honest review when I read one. And I am watching.

I am still here, and I am not going away.  And I am still having more fun than my detractors.

I could not make this up.  When I try to log in I crash.  Anyone else having this problem?

I am doing a Full Scan now.

    UPDATE

Works now, might have been something on my PC.

    CLARITY

Vanguard was a broken game on release.  Today, it is fixed.

This game is still far from fixed I must say. I tried it out with the free playtime as well, checked it out with my old rogue and druid and failed to see enough to convince me to resub. No new hairstyles, bad clothing, awful character animations, lack of general polish....its still there. They've certainly patched up the classes, apparently improved performance (its even choppier then before on my computer) and added a raid-zone in recent patch but its still not really worth anyone's money atm.

It honestly needs a buttload more work before its ever sub-worthy. There's a massive world, I like the hugeness of the maps and all the locations, but the world still feels souless and in need of plenty of work to make it more alive. My honest opinion is that if you are new and want to try Vanguard, you should wait a few years if you can be bothered so that  it might get all the features and polish it was supposed to have, otherwise you will only be left with a sour taste in your mouth buying it right now. Don't flush your money down the drain for the game right now, its still in rough shape.

It seems to be more new players joining the game then old one resubbing these last months. All according to non scientific questions asked when grouping or so.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

Well, count me as one newbie that loves Vanguard for some reason. ;)

Came back with the free trial month and it's same old, same old. Performance got slightly better but overall, the game is still broken. Performance remains sluggish despite the fact that I have a very modest computer to run the game at above 'balanced' setting.

    VANGUARD ROX NOW !!
    VANGUARD FIXED !!!!
    VANGUARD IS BETTER NOW!
    VANGUARD yadda yadda !
I read the mmorpg forums alot and everyday. Feels more like the people writing these post want to have more people on the servers. And want to tell everyone .. EVERY DAY how good this game is now..
BTW SoE listen to beta testers more and dont release a game with 1000s of buggs and make people PAY to find your buggs in final version.
Your last statement simply paints you as a SOE hater so not worth listening to. You see, SOE did not release this game, SOE did not develop this game, SOE bailed this game out from Sigil and is fixing this game.

And you are right, people coming on the forum and saying they like this game and trying to get people to come play must be a SOE conspiracy. It cant just be people who like a game and are trying to get more people to come play because the server population isnt as strong as it should be.

Perhaps you coming to this forum and stating that all these "said" improvements are lies is in fact a SOE Haters conspiracy.

Many new people are joining, and I imagine it is a refreshing change from the WoW to LotR direction.

I can knock, criticize, defame SIGIL and Vanguard all day and night for a terrible launch.

Guess what?  That was a year ago, and I am enjoying the game today.

For the longest time, I had the same log-in-and-crash problem. Since then, I have stopped playing and my tailor has been under my friends' care. Nonetheless, I am glad for Vanguard to have success in sustaining players through its repairing process. The game definitely deserved a better start.

In the interest of good faith honesty, Vanguard was not good to me today.

    • When I look at NPC or player's name, I have graphical distortions [I do not always get them, and they are difficult to explain; it is like a ... hmph... imagine looking through a window but there is a crack down the middle of the window (best I could do).  The only graphical distortion is NPC and player names plus weather effects.

    • The same problem with NPC and player name distortions I get with the weather, and it is particular visible with snow [Seeing the storms in the sky is really cool, btw.]
    • I crashed about three times tonight, and I just got logged out.
    • WORST:  you might not believe this, but this is the strangest thing in any game:  sometimes I will appear as offline.  I swear to God.  Sometimes my friends cannot msg me.  When they msg me, it says that I am offline although they can see me in the game.  I can talk in guild chat but sometimes my group chat does not work. Sometimes some people can msg me but other times no one can.  It is so weird.

Is anyone else having these problems?  I knew telling a guy he had bad luck would come back to haunt me, and I have learned my lesson. REMOVE THIS CURSE! PLEASE! !

Who are you? And, what have you done with truenorthbg?!

Seriously though, it seems like I read that some people had issues with PC/NPC names when they forced on AA in graphics settings. Dunno if you have recently tinkered with that or not.

As far as the chat goes, I'd bet it was/is a problem with the social server. I've seen all sorts of wierd things offshoot from the social server blinking.
