If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"
What does the game have now, four servers? And Warhammer, Conan, the WOW expansion, and a few other games are coming out next year? Unless this game is as smooth as lotion, I don't see how it's going to compete in 2008, but I could be wrong. While I would like to give Vanguard another try, I'm more picky these days about which games I subscribe to. I want to play a game that is expected to last for a long time, and not risk levelling a character only to see the plug pulled at some point. And where's McQuaid? Without McQuaid's oversight and stamp of approval, just who is working on this game? Sony staff?
With all that has happened over the past couple of years it is foolish to count on games that are not on the shelve and currently running, Look what happened to Gods and Heroes and what happen to VG itself.
So counting on AoC and WAR is a fools game. Only definite amongst the games you have quoted is WoW Expansion. And how many quit WoW after the last expansion cos they felt it broke the game for them.
So yeah you dont want to risk playing a game that is out and running but instead you wait for a game that may never be released, keep on waiting dude, i play tonight on VG and will be enjoying myself.
You really can't compare VG to WoW in this regard the amount of players leaving, were smaller than you seem to make it, and the amount of people yet still buying WoW is kinda absurd since wow + tbc and now battlechests sometimes hit the #1 chart for reasons i don't quite understand but that's because i bought it since release, were in beta, and for the sad part i'm sorry to see WoW being the only trully polished mmorpg to hit the market.
Before VG was released and it looked like a quite promising game i actually wanted to buy it but then after seing the fact SOE wanted to launch it way before time it was quite obvious that VG was running towards it's own death, how many months has it been since release? How many months did it take before they finally got this "raiding aspect" implemented?
And to some of your comments, since you are defending VG vigilant, about other games not being fool proof that might be but WoW is damn close to be it and it was that close since release, it had minor things you only would complain about if you were a rather spoiled brat and had no idea in what state the other mmorpgs could be months after release, besides as shown so many times again and again, only a handful venture to the game's forums, because they are enjoying themselves with the game, not bothering themselves with forum talk, since they haven't got any grudges to the game, while the loudest ofcourse will try to move the dev's minds for thier own will.
Those who left WoW at TBC were possible hardcore raiders who wanted the game to be changed into the way they wanted it, remember EQ before it didn't get changed by the hardcore raiders? Yeah blizzard ain't so dumb, and luckily they take thier time with thier products, if a delay is needed that's how it just gonna be they don't want to rush thier work, because they know what might happen then, we got it right here what can(will happen if you rush GREAT POTENTIAL, you're also seing Age of Conan being delayed now, since there was a certain problem but in itself it also lead to more polishing and while on Age of Conan and perhaps even WAR40k, thier hype mostly stands up to thier word compared to others, well i'm not sure about WAR but atleast i still have my fair share of faith towards Age of Conan.
I for one hope that SOE for once will listen to thier god damn players and keep thier bloody MMOs in beta till it's as ready as it can be (WoW ready), now you might find yourself insulted by this but you cannot deny the fact how well WoW was launched compared to pretty much any other mmorpg and thinking about the size of players pouring into the helpless servers, which took a year to get final upgrades and having no problems ever since (cheesy/spoiled problems compared to other mmorpg 400ms was considered an outrage).
When do you personally see VG ready to be called "complete and ready"? it's been called Beta VG for quite some time and yet people pay for it, is it for how much they devoted themselves to praise the game or is it a faint of hope? I'm simply curious.
And before you go at me about WoW, no ofc. not playing it anymore but will buy the upcoming expansion and play it because even if it gets boring 10 months later it will still be the best bet when you want to spend your money for a mmorpg, by that be untill Age of conan comes or whatever big hit might lie around the corners....

Out of interest what are you playing at the moment?
And i would like to add that the graphic performance of VG is far far better than EQ2. Anyone who has played EQ2 and VG will know this as a fact, How long has EQ2 been out now? When i played EQ2 last year the mounts had no jump animation, when you pressed jump when mounted the horse would just go straight up in the air and then land sup with that!
So before peeps come on here and start knocking VG lets us know what you are playing so that we can have an idea of what you are used to. Otherwise spanners like Kyleran will come on here and start letting their mouth run away with them.
I play EQ2 and I have played VG. Sorry but your are lying. VG does not have better graphics performance then EQ2. True it may have better graphics if your system can handle it but that is not the same as graphics performance. BTW who do you think has fixed VG's graphics performance? That would be some of the same programmers that work on EQ2. (most of the sigil programmers were fired a long time ago)
Not sure about a year ago but Mounts in EQ2 do have jump animations when moving, and when still they do other things. ie Warg mounts will rear up growl and slash at the air etc.
Funny you should ask that only people that have played VG since the last patch to comment here but feel free to comment about a game you evidently haven't played in a year yourself <ie EQ2> ?

I cant see exactly what your point is, i have 3 level WoW chars and plan to play the expansion when it comes out.
All i was implying in the post you quoted was that instead of waiting for a game to come out, a game that may not be what it is expected to be i prefer to play a game that is already out. The reference to WoW was in the same vein, ie, some were eagerly waiting for BC and when it came out it wasnot what they expected.
I enjoyed BC and would still be playing it if not that i got bored, but will go back with the next expansion.
Out of interest what are you playing at the moment?

BTW who do you think has fixed VG's graphics performance? That would be some of the same programmers that work on EQ2. (most of the sigil programmers were fired a long time ago) What has who fixed the graphics got to do with anyhting? they are two totally different engines so "if" you are implying that beacuse the same programmers worked on both games then for some reason EQ2s graphics performance is better than you are clearly misguided.
Not sure about a year i am sure ago but Mounts in EQ2 do have jump animations when moving, and when still they do other things. ie Warg mounts will rear up growl and slash at the air etc.

Please read my post before making comments about it, it is just above, as you have quoted it youself ---- I clearly say "when i played EQ2 a year ago" so i have also played it last month just before getting VG and saw that they have added in Mount animations.

Implying that if you will never buy the game then why bother coming here to read about it.
Ok i missed where he said w/o a free trial, but then again a free trial is not out yet and there is no news.

Dont forget they did have a 10 day trail of the game with the game, the buddy key so maybe quite a few people have indeed tried that and wont buy it without another trail after it has been indeed fixed.

yeah as said i missed the "w/o free trail" sorry to anwar and you if i offended you, it was a genuine mistake.
Anwar could have easily addressed that, as i did ask him a question, all he need to say was, "i am reading about cos i will test it when it comes out" and i would have shut up!
I recently tried it again and was delighted to see some improvement, but I really had no problem running the game at decent frames at release, and I only came across a few really annoying bugs while I first played, but I do agree that there is an underlying aspect of the game that is missing, as Torak mentioned, and that is motivation. The gameworld still seems pretty dynamic and is nice to look at and exlore, there are plenty of quests, crafting is deep enough, diplomacy is fun and innovative, but why am I doing it all again? Just to get to max level? Without the community, it just seems pointless. If a resurgence of players returns to play, then so will I, because lately I haven't seen or heard from any other players while I've been running around near Tursh, and this is not a game to play solo.
Vanguard is one of the games I would have liked to see work out. I have really been doing some thinking about MMO's these last 6 months and I really have come to the conclusion that the old days of AC are really what I miss and that has not been duplicated in any MMO since the first wave. They just keep getting baser and baser.
I agree. I held to the idea that Vanguard would be similar to the old EQ, and in many ways it is, but I think what I was looking for was a feeling that you get when you experience something brand new that is a lot of fun. I didn't need a rehash of that old experience, but even if I did, I'm not sure if Vanguard could have delivered it in the state it was in at release.
Now that it is a little better, I do enjoy it sometimes, for what it is, but for all that is does, I wish it could do so much more. So what I am really asking for is that game that was slated to be for hardcore gamers . . . a niche mmo, and whatever else it has been labelled but has since developed into another pretty standard, modern day mmo.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Fallen Earth and Hero's Journey to be more unique, but I'm not holding my breath.

I know I keep saying it on these boards but my hope is for TCOS to deliver this,A more skilled MMO and not a gear grind game,Time will tell if my hopes are again dashed but I have to keep faith
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"
Yes, Spellborn does look like it could be a unique mmo, but I kinda lost interest after so long waiting for it. I'm sure once it gets released I'll jump in and check it out.
I had already come back a couple weeks ago and left again. I had deleted VG from my HDD and carried on in my other game happily, albeit wishing VG all the best and vowing to check it out again someday.
Then I saw these posts after this last patch and I reinstalled yesterday morning and played for about 6 hours last night.
I'll be deleting it from my HDD again tonight... this time I will definitely give it 6 months or so before returning.
It's come a long way, for sure, but it's still nowhere near ready for prime time.
The good news is that I am now getting between 55 and 70 FPS average on HIGH settings (with volumetric clouds OFF) on a very mediocre system. That's a FAR cry from the 20 FPS I was getting on Medium settings prior to this patch. There's been a MAJOR performance boost with this patch.
I hope that SOE keeps it up, if so I will definitely be enjoying this game in another half a year

I am seriously thinking about resubbing to AC. Sometimes I think we (the MMO community) are to fixated on the "next big thing" and forget that some of the older games frankly do it better in some ways. We have a serious case of "the grass is greener on the other side".
The main problem with many of the older games is they have such low populations. Unfortunately playing AC these days is like playing Morrowind with a chat box. Its a giant world stuffed with years of monthly content updates but no one really around to share it with.
The point made that Vanguard is not finished is accurate. Finished being what was promised at pre-release and what we currently have. Fixed and finished are different.
SOE is fixing, finishing, and enhancing the game simultaneously.

I am waiting on the free trial to give VG another go(I think it opens in around 3hrs),Can you tell me how the shaman class has changed in the last 6-7 months,I enjoyed playing this guy alot before and just wondered how they have changed it,If at all,
Thanks.

hey true,Quick question, I am waiting on the free trial to give VG another go(I think it opens in around 3hrs),Can you tell me how the shaman class has changed in the last 6-7 months,I enjoyed playing this guy alot before and just wondered how they have changed it,If at all, Thanks.
I have always considered the Shaman (phoenix and bear) to be Vanguard's most powerful class. The class with the greatest utility: bard. Class that is the best soloer: necro.
I am, unfortunately, not necessarily an expert on the classes. I do not think the Shaman, unlike the Cleric, has received any nerfs. I also know that, based on my experiences, the bear shaman is an extreme powerhouse and nearly as good of a soloer as the necro (some might even a better soloer).
I do not know any precise details, however, how the class has been nerfed or enhanced.

yeah I have a bear shammy and indeed was great for solo`ing alittle slow to kill things but almost impossible to kill,Thanks anyway mate I am sure I will find out when they open the old accounts

I paid OrionStar a compliment on his post because he clearly gave his opinion and experience of the game.
Kyleran said himself that he had not played the game since 1 month after release and only got information on bugs from the forums, so he more or less admitted that he has not played the game since Feb2007.
Other than that i don't see myself as trolling people that give bad reviews of the game without spefic reason.

If someone gives there thoughts on a game am i not entitled to question those opinions?
OFC you can give your opinion but you have to try and respect others at the sametime.
I think that may have been Thillian.I am quite agressive in the way i post, that i think is just me, although i also try and be fair at all times.

One by one pls lol!

I cant see exactly what your point is, i have 3 level WoW chars and plan to play the expansion when it comes out.All i was implying in the post you quoted was that instead of waiting for a game to come out, a game that may not be what it is expected to be i prefer to play a game that is already out. The reference to WoW was in the same vein, ie, some were eagerly waiting for BC and when it came out it wasnot what they expected.
I enjoyed BC and would still be playing it if not that i got bored, but will go back with the next expansion.
I play EQ2 and I have played VG. Sorry but your are lying. VG does not have better graphics performance then EQ2. True it may have better graphics if your system can handle it but that is not the same as graphics performance. What do you consider to be graphics performance then before we debate it?

I guess you just like to read about it huh?
My God,here you go.
"I guess you just like to read about the it" = "i guess you just like to read about the game"

I hope that SOE keeps it up, if so I will definitely be enjoying this game in another half a year
I guess you just like to read about it huh?
I was in the beta.
The main problem with many of the older games is they have such low populations. Unfortunately playing AC these days is like playing Morrowind with a chat box. Its a giant world stuffed with years of monthly content updates but no one really around to share it with.
I appreciate everyone's thoughtful comments.
The point made that Vanguard is not finished is accurate. Finished being what was promised at pre-release and what we currently have. Fixed and finished are different.
SOE is fixing, finishing, and enhancing the game simultaneously.

hey true,Quick question,
I am waiting on the free trial to give VG another go(I think it opens in around 3hrs),Can you tell me how the shaman class has changed in the last 6-7 months,I enjoyed playing this guy alot before and just wondered how they have changed it,If at all,
Thanks.
