Personally i don't care whether the game has nudity in it or not. But i think people shouldn't be bothered with nudity lol; I look at human bodies from an artistic standpoint (I'm an artist lol), not for arousal. If they censor the nakedness, fine, if they don't, fine lol. Either way, you're going to play the game if you really want to play it.
If they censor the boobs in the US version I will not be playing, I’m 37 years old, and a long time Conan fan, and I hate censorship, so just on principle I will not be giving them my money, if they can’t stand up for their vision of the game then I’m not interested.

Haha. Are you serious? Wow. Boobs is part of "the vision" now? really? A couple nips are going to make or break the game for you? Wow.
Sorry, but with you being 37, I would think that a storyline, combat system, animation quality, graphics, etc. etc. would be worth more than a couple areolas on a female model.
--------------------------------------------- I live to fight, and fight to live.
Well i aint getting worked up yet over it. I can however see what will also be comming, First the US gets the boobs censored out, then the EU version probably get the blood and severed limbs censored out. Yet the game even with these gone will still get an adult rating for sod all.

They mentioned just removing the nipples for the US which completely freaks me out, I’m very against body mutilation.
It’s not the lack of nudity the upsets me, it’s that they are letting themselves get pushed around. Absolutely not a single reason why they could not have an AO US version – which was download only.

They could do that. However, they wouldn't make nearly as much money, and since they are in business to make money, not lose it, they aren't going to do that.
If by censorship or "pushed around" you mean "wants to make enough money to keep paying their employees and possibly give their investors a return on their investments", then, yes, Funcom is 'caving in' to make more money.
Did CRS with its WW2 Online succumb to censorship by not allowing swastikas in game because the game would be sold in France and Germany where that symbol is almost always illegal to display? Or did they make the right business decision to remove it and thereby expand their possible player base and also reduce litigation risk?
They could do that. However, they wouldn't make nearly as much money, and since they are in business to make money, not lose it, they aren't going to do that. ...
How? Have the MA version they can buy in the stores as planned. And a AO version for download only? If anything they would make more money.
They are planning to have one version for everyone and check based on region. The could just add one more additional check, would not be the big of a deal for them.

Hey its not the game developers fault if the ratings board classes it at a certain rating and therefore some things get cut out such as maybe some swearing in dialogue or if women in game have to keep their top half covered or the sex buff has to go. They have to go with the rating for the content, its out of their hands and in line with the Law for the country your in. An AO rating might come in the future who knows, but definately not for launch on the same day as the mature rated title.
Funcom do stand up for their vision of the game being true to the IP of Conan and the lore. Your beef is with the ratings board and the legislation of the counntry your in. Statistically speaking it might not be in Funcoms best interest to have an AO rating version for many reasons. Ones such as Customer Support, technical help, mature games count for about 15% of total online games sales in N.A. how much you think an AO mmorpg would make based on an unknown area, and would the overall appeal be justified in the expenditure to put that game out. I dont think it would be. I believe in Europe the game has an 18+ rating in quite a few countries, in Austrialia it will get an MA15+ rating and its hoping to be rated mature for N.American release. Next one up from that is 21 yrs for an AO rating isnt it? there are alot of customers between 18 and 31 who play online mmorpg's.
On a side note how can removing nipples on a female pixel character in a video game freak you out, when there has never been in an mmorpg before a pixellated nipple showing?
Why dont we see what the game is like playing it before wondering what if?

I wish Funcom would drop the half-naked stuff and stay focused on giving us a good PvP game. Who gives a crap how much clothing is on a mob or character except cyberfreaks and kids. The artists should be making sure that the blood from decapitations looks right not whether both nipples are aligned on a given mob.
And GoW had breasts, dont see why this cant, not that it matters if its in or not

Funcom hasn't even actively advertised the "sex buff" and barely mentioned the topless nudity in interviews over the past 6 months as priority. Its always the blood, gore, capability for say de-caps, gameplay (real time combat and then nudity.
With large scale testing going on in a few weeks time we will be seeing the marketing focused and stressed elsewhere I am sure of.

You don't know how publishing deals work apparently. Funcom got cash (lots of it) to develop the game from EIDOS, the publisher in NA. EIDOS will make their money back on box sales (royalties). EIDOS controls the decisions regarding marketing and distribution of the game in NA. They will not voluntarily give up the money they already paid PLUS the profit they want to make for the sake of a few people wanting the option.
Perhaps EIDOS will relent some time after the box sales (typically a whole 6 weeks after release the boxes disappear from the shelves), and of course, their publishing deal will expire sometime in the future most likely.
You know, frankly, I rolled my eyes when I heard there would be boobs in AoC. Either it would be tasteless, at which point... bleh, or it would be flavorful (like the topless succubi in Diablo) at which point it would still end up focusing all sorts of bad attention on the game, and attract the wrong crowd.
So I should be happy, right? NO! The worst form of censorship is self-censorship, its what George Orwell ranted about at the start of 1984. Not government imposed censorship, but censorship that occurs before anyone even says anything. An artistic vision is an artistic vision. If dryads and Succubi are part of your game, they shouldn't need convienently placed hair and unnecessary clothing. If that's the developers vision, fine, they can do as they choose. It gives the world a less realistic, more cartoony feel, but if they're shooting for that, fine. If they think it damages immersion, and don't want it, and have to stick it in anyway... that's censorship.

If you need excessive flesh so that you can get immersion in a game perceivably for the masses then this game will be going no where. Cheap thrills a shame the developers cannot come up with concepts that keep the concepts in line with the original Conan.
If this cannot be done without it becoming degrading then the project should have never been started, and another IP developed. A real real shame...

Just to point one thing out though. The original IP, in this case, the original books of Howard, had a lot of half-clothed or less women in them. Nude, half-nude, barely-covered etc. It was all part of the setting. I know, because I am reading the books right now and trust me, there's like...no chapter in which you don't get a description of a scantily clad woman. *shrug* Sex and Violence. That's Conan from what I read in the books.

First of all, and just to get this out of the way, this is CONAN we're talking about here. Maybe if it was "The Collected Works of William Shakespere, the MMORPG" I'd understand you thinking it was out of line with the original material (though Shakespere was full of sex) but Conan? If there aren't half naked women, they ain't stayin true to the source. Just sayin'
Anyway, nudity for immersion purposes makes perfect sense, IMHO. Its like those movies and TV shows where people have sex, but convienently the covers stay in all the right places. Its having your cake and eating it too. They get to pretend they're all innocent, while having sexual content. And nothing, honestly, is less immersive than having entities in the world conform to outside standards. In the case of movies, this is characters keeping covered up like they're being watched - I'm sure you've seen those sex scenes where oh-so-convienently the characters are absurdly modest, despite, y'know, them having sex and it being completely out of character for them to be modest, etc. etc. In the case of games, this is the characters going out of the way to cover their breasts despite the fact that uncovered breasts aren't a sin in their morality (especially the characters that are deliberately sexual... jeesh).
As I said, it is a jarring immersion snap, and I can understand why the developers would make a choice to avoid that rather than avoiding the 'boobies.' And if you seriously think this game is going to be free of sexual situations... Conan? Really? You've read it?
In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own.
You can dig up my old posts on the DevTracker, if you like, but to try and be clear, the game was designed with a Mature rating in mind. We have an obligation to comply with rating boards and legal requirements in the countries we're doing business in and we will.
However, since we're still in the ratings process and nothing has been decided, it's a bit premature to be freaking out about censorship/cuts/etc.
Europe: You remove the kids from the game so they can't be killed and add boobs.
I'll call shenanigans on this statement. I'm willing to bet just as many European children get access to games that they shouldn't (except for maybe in Germany, where no one appears to have access to much)

What's up with Germany? Could you explain?
Well, i am no expert...
Basically our rating (FSK) is for 6yo, 12yo, 16yo and 18yo. Some german may correct me if i am wrong, but we dont seperate M and A. Either its 16yo or 18yo rated. You can display and advertise for anything up to 16yo. Once something is 18yo rated you need a seperate show- or salesroom or you sell it from under the desk. Most big game selling shops dont want a seperate salesroom for 18yo stuff. Thats why they dont even care to sell those games and videos. For PrOn you can go into pr0n shops, but there are very few dedicated game shops with a seperate room. Thats why it is/was hard to buy some games.
Its much better now with online shops, broadband and digital downloads. Still most of the US online shops wont let us order with an european creditcard.
In germany nobody really cares about some boobs, but people do care about violence in games. Quite the opposite of the US. Thats why many US games in the past had no blood or green blood in the german retail version. Sometimes the mobs just went *poof* if you killed them. No corpses on the ground, no bloodstains.
AoC is different. It will most probably be a 18yo game. Once you are in this rating it doesnt matter if there are topless succubus or if there are fatalities that crap your screen. The worst that could happen to us is that there are no boobs and no blood. Then it will be a 16yo rated game. But i wont buy it
A lot is in motion now. Due to the EU sometimes EU laws are > then national laws. The process to have equal laws for all EU citizens is still not finished yet. Thats why i dont exactly know our actual situation over here.
All Right people. Put your money where your mouth is. For all those who desire nudity in your games and do not believe nudity should be "censored". Paste a nude male or female pic in your signature or icon.
Food for thought
And this is merely a forum where "free speech" is excercised.

There you have it - "Calm Down" !!
I am not comenting on how different countries have relations to nudity and human attributes.
Lets just have a look into human art and history
Naked boobs and male genitals ca. 180 BC. Amazons vs. Greek warriors
More boobs and male genitals
Male human and male centaur Eww.. perverted :P
Not naked ladies ...somehow
Persian lady See is a goddess related to water and fountains
/jedimagic These are not the boobs you are looking for Sorry... i couldnt resist
Lady from egypt
Ishtar, a sumerian goddess
Naked in the katholic Sistine chapel - vatican city
Pretty good collection there.
The thing is with Art, its simple:
Either you love it or you hate it.
Same thing can be applied to censorship.
