You seem to be missing the point -- they DON'T WANT the game to have a Mature rating from ESRB, which is why they would be disabling the most extreme content on US servers.
If they censor it in the US expect a client side hack to show up pretty quick.
Not hard to do. You're just changing some art assets. If the art is provided with the installation then it's no big deal. If it isn't. Then contact someone who has the non-censored version and have them send you the unpacked content.
These companies act like it's hard to crack this junk, but it's not.

They're going to make sure it has a M rating in the USA/Canada for the distribution here. Since it is currently being reviewed by the ESRB, they haven't had to make modifications UNLESS there were bits already in the game that could be viewed as blatant AO material.

Just to point one thing out though. The original IP, in this case, the original books of Howard, had a lot of half-clothed or less women in them. Nude, half-nude, barely-covered etc. It was all part of the setting. I know, because I am reading the books right now and trust me, there's like...no chapter in which you don't get a description of a scantily clad woman. *shrug* Sex and Violence. That's Conan from what I read in the books.
I really don't think it matters. As long as the style is sexy and exotic it will capture the flavor of conan fine. They don't need to be naked and frankly I'd prefer that they not be so people don't think I'm some degenerate old fart playing a game with all these naked women running around :P Not to mention what my daughters would think :P' Another thing that would be good is to really work on the animations. Conan women are sexy and that isn't just in dress thats how they move and how they talk. This is far more important to immersion then being naked and also quite a bit harder to implement.
In any event I'll be happier if they keep the style and add the scantily clad part But most important men should look like men and women like women. Not like most games where men and women look the same but with different hair styles and boobs of no boobs. I mean seriously there are a few more differences then that...

That doesn't make sense though. Because in 'Conan' on the Xbox 360 (the single player game) they freely show female breats throughout the whole game. And it only has a 'MA' rating.
I hate to disappoint the people who think AoC has already been censored and gotten an MA rating.
The rating is still "RP" rating pending. Funcom wants to make sure it gets a "M" rating. AO is unacceptable to them.
So, they're still going through the review process, and no rating has been given yet. About the only "censorship" we know of is the german version will be lacking blood (possibly amongst other things).

But I also agree with what many of the users stated in regards to religion. I attend Clemson University in the South, and let me tell you, this is "God's land" down here. I would say that 85% (pulled that number out of my ass) of the people here don't care if you cuss, swear, hook up, drink, smoke, or do whatever else you want to do with your life. HOWEVER, it's that loud-mouthed 15% of Bible-beating fanatics down here who just can NOT shut the hell up when their ideals are challenged in any way, shape or form, and they are the ones who are responsible for censorship of products.
For example, the movie "The Da Vinci Code" has people picketing in the streets in front of movie theaters, Baptists CRYING on television about how much blasphemy was presented in the film, and how anyone who went to see it would burn in hell. It took them 2 days to pull the movie from every theater within 100 miles of here, 2 days! How ridiculous is that? I always thought the Constitution protected freedom of speech and choice of entertainment. But clearly, that's not the case. Or there's even this nonsense here in South Carolina called "Blue laws", where you can't buy any sort of entertainment products, alcohol products, cleaning supplies, or other such goods before 2 p.m. on Sundays. Why? The justification for the law is that "You should be in Church until 2p.m.". Sadly, this isn't a joke either...
While the censorship isn't going to affect whether I purchase the game or not, I definitely believe that it's a shame that the inaudible masses are always ignored for the loud-mouthed minority of the population who won't stop complaining until they get their way. And I'll tell you one thing, it's not the gamers or the people who play video games that are crying out for censorship of pixelated breasts, but rather some 40+ year mother who's never even played a game in her life that's going around damning everyone to hell for exposing her baby to such filth. That's the real travesty.

We Americans see intense graphic violence on TV and video games constantly, and yet a little digital nudity is not allowed. Doesn't make much sense to me... hopefully there will be some way of activating the nudity despite these restrictions!

Dunno if I'm one of a minority that thinks US censorship is retarded, but stuff like this makes me giggle inanely. Maturely speaking, I know not all Americans are outraged by nipples on TV, but this is the kind of stuff that makes the news across the waters, and every time it just seems silly as hell.
Die Hard 4 is a great example of this also. There's actually three versions of the film. A special edition, regular edition and an uncut version that I could only find by ordering on line at Amazon. None of the regular stores in Holland could conceive that there was a third version, because the nation just doesn't cut or dub movies. Let's be fair here, Die Hard 4 is simply a 2-hour long action-fest. Guns and explosions, death and car accidents. But the American producers wanted to make a movie 'that would reach out to a younger audience' - a PG13 movie. C'mon! It's Die Hard! If McClane isn't cussing, shooting, smoking and boozing his way through another 2-hour long fight, then what's the point? That aside, why would you want to show this to younger teenagers if it's that bad? But the two DVD versions of the movie that are available in stores are completely censored; no swearing and no blood. I spent 2 hours staring at the screen wondering if I'd bought the right movie. Then the uncut version came in and it all made sense again!
It's ludicrous. Guns, killing, mass destruction and terrorism are fine and dandy, but the US censorship board forbid that John McClane might say the word 'fuck' a few times...
Same goes for Conan. It's basically 'tits-guns-and-helicopters' with a fantasy twist (TGH being the only three requirements for an action media product). Don't you think American kids will still realise that the content is still based around mass slaughter and conquest and macho glorifcation, even if they take the blood and boobs out?
