The real decider for me would be which one can you still start.. today, and find groups all the way to max.

I'd recommend WoW. It's better, and since there aren't any "buy station access and pay the double fee to get nice features and more char slots" types of things and there's less expansion packs, it's cheaper to play than EQ2.

  • KilmarKilmar Member UncommonPosts: 844

There is a Everquest 2 All in one pack, with all expansion packs in one. I dont know the price, but it was cheaper than wow + addon. And Everquest 2 has much more to offer, but both games have trials =)

  • blooblobblooblob Member Posts: 134

welll i recomend WoW. it currently has 9 million players for u to group/ party with (dont ask).and u cant really escaped toe monthly fee of 15 dollars a month because almost all pay to play MMORPGS cost that much. and i wouldnt trust sony they are very screwy sometimes...

I voted everquest 2... neither style of graphics do really speak to me as I also played FFXI and loved it, WoW is just too.... cartoony... and kinda easy, but I guess some of the easyness makes it more fun even if I never get the same sense of accomplishment in WoW that I got in FFXI ... if you can wait a few more months maybe you can pick between AoC, WAR and if its any good maybe even Spellborn could be a choice.

WoW. While it looks cartoony, it really is a finely made game and while it's not my kind of style of gameplay, it's still very well done. It's got the most players of any MMO and it's the best maintained. WoW is basically the 'healthiest' MMO out right now, and it's a solid gameplay experience.

EverQuest 2 wasn't made with the same solid gameplay. The PvP system is laughable, really laughable, and the game is even more linear than WoW, which is quite a burden. I've played both MMOs, and I can honestly say that while I'm not a fan of either, WoW is the better game.

EQ2 is a the better game..

I play both and playing WoW right now((because my good PC is done for)) and this PC can only play WoW.. But EQ2 wins..

World of Warcraft. Everquest 2 just isn't as fun as WoW.

EQ2 by far! Never liked WoW and its cartoon style graphics and imature community.

While I agree WOW is more fun ( allot more ) of those two EQII is the superior title.

if you plan on solo play WoW as you can solo to max level..EQ2 i think over all is a better game but the learning curve is a bit steeper then WoWs. of course out of that 9 million in WoW 6 million dont speak english.

I think there's like 3 xpacks and little tiny xpacks called adventure packs. You can get the original game + ALL xpacks + ALL adventure packs + 30 days free for.. 40 bucks! KILLLLLLERRRR deal. There is also a cool free card game you can play (you can buy cards if you want, but they drop in-game).

If you want a more pvp game go for WOW.. if you want a pve game with depth and graphics that won't make you vomit.. go with EQ2

WOW is a good game, but honestly I HATE the graphics. The pvp was "ok" imo, but the announced xpack with the new huge pvp zone does have me interested, but I think i'll wait for AoC or Aion instead.

EQ2 servers are always on medium load during off hours and on heavy load during prime time (this is my experience in CST). There's tons of people chatting, but you won't find GOBS of people hunting due to the size of the game. From 1-50 you have 4 different zones you can level up in without ever visting any of the others (huge replay value). Then from 60-70 you have 2 zones. Then from 70-80 you have 1 zone so it gets more populated then (the new zones have 2 copies when it gets filled up so bad, which is often). There's a boat load of races and classes to pick from that all play differently. -EVERY- class can solo from 1-80 so don't let people fool you into thinking otherwise. Very group friendly.. the instances are fun and raids take 1hour TOPS. ALSO if you don't complete the raid.. it can be saved and finished the next day if you want. So if you can only go to the raid for an hour.. go to it.. and finish it another time.. WOOHOOO!

Anyway, IMO get a hold of both trials (eq2 trial SUCKS.. so don't be to harsh) and give them a try.

Each title has its own plusses and negatives, I would recommend EQ2 if you like to socialize, do PvE, do quest (there's like several thousand questlines in the game). If you like easy to learn game, Quest grind, PvP and Raiding then you would like WoW.

I guess that makes me a troll eh?

Anyway, I say WoW.  I've played them both and I'd say  go with WoW.

If you're looking for something different, something interesting and outside the bounds of traditional mmo convention try EVE.

    World of Warcraft, absolutely.

    • Unlimited characters, 10 per server.  I have 'alt-itis' with about 45 characters across 8 servers.
    • Searchable auctionhouse
    • Nice armor sets, but not required.  Can interchange easily.
    • PVP/Battlegrounds are strategically interesting/fun with nice rewards
    • No experience debt
    • Customer Service responds and takes action.
    • Goldspams are reported and removed.
    • User Interface is smooth, user-friendly.
    • Can buy WoW and Burning Crusade as a set for $40
    • Patches are useful, worthwhile, and helpful.
    • Roleplay servers cater to rolepayers.  PVP servers to PVP.  RPPVP servers to RPPVP (usually more PVP than RP though), Normal are Normal
    • Originally came up with "rested experience" allowing you to benefit from taking a break now and then.
    • Solo play progression is reasonable
    • Player and NPC economy makes sense

    Limitations of Everquest 2:

    • Only 8 characters total.  Makes me wonder why they bothered making more than 8 classes
    • Blobby armor designs, limited sets and interchangability
    • Hard to search auctionhouse
    • Experience debt
    • Customer Service is slow and is entirely unhelpful (trust me, I tried on a NUMBER of occasions to resolve very simple issues).  May as well try to deal with it on your own.
    • Goldspams go unaddressed
    • User Interface is a beast to set up.  Mine kept resetting keymapping on logout.  That was freaking annoying.
    • Everquest world is small at $10, but you can buy another continent for $40, then next expansion for $40, then the next expansion for $40, then the next expansion...
    • Patches seem to be changes just for the sake of making changes.  Doesn't benefit players.
    • Servers are random, hardly anyone knows or cares about roleplay

To those who think there's a better 'community' between in EQ2 than World of Warcraft, that always makes me chuckle.

Regarding the graphics on World of Warcraft, the game starts on a low setting for most computers.  You can turn them up depending on your PC.

Why would you need more.. you act as if EQ2 doesn't have multiple servers like WOW. So what it doesn't have over 100 servers, but that's absurd. Get station access if you absolutely need more, but 2 less then WOW.. yesh that's a TON!
Blobby armor designs, limited sets and interchangability
What? The item sets rock and are a challenge/accomplishment to get. You can swap peices out all you want depending on what bonuses of the set you want. They work just like WOWs. You even have an appearance tab if you hate the look of the set, but want the bonuses.
    Hard to search auctionhouse
Hard? You can save searches. You click a drop down box. Select what you want or simply type in the name of the item. Hard? Yes for a monkey.
    Experience debt
Which goes away in about 5 minutes or less.
Customer Service is slow and is entirely unhelpful (trust me, I tried on a NUMBER of occasions to resolve very simple issues).  May as well try to deal with it on your own.
My response times have been withing 30mins to maybe a day depending on severity even instantly i'd get a response.. from people that can actually help you.. not some non-english chat reading CSR that can't do squat. EQ2 also brought back EQ1 style "Guides" so you get even more help.
    Goldspams go unaddressed
AAAAAAAAHAHAHA EQ2 has dominated all MMOs as far as stopping spam.. the auto filter actually blocks all gold spam. I've been back a month and -NEVER- seen 1 gold seller message bypass the spam protect. Even the e-mail system stops spammers.
User Interface is a beast to set up.  Mine kept resetting keymapping.  That was freaking annoying.
The UI is a bit more complicated. I'll agree there. Resetting? Never had this issue.
Everquest world is small at $10, but you can buy another continent for $40, then next expansion for $40, then the next expansion for $40, then the next expansion...
The world is huger then WOW. You are just blinded by tunnel zoning clever tech. You're kidding your self. Wow + 1 xpack = 40 bucks. EQ2 + 4 xpacks + 3 adventure packs = 40 bucks. Which gives more bang for buck now?
Patches seem to be changes just for the sake of making changes.  Doesn't benefit players.
Patches are always fixing bugs or improving. Just because it doesn't help you doesn't mean it didn't help someone else. The game doesn't revolve around you.
Servers are random, hardly anyone knows or cares about roleplay
RP servers are HIGHLY enforced. You will literally me temp banned if you fall out of character to much or they'll silence your chat except for tells. So again.. wrong.

To those who think there's a better 'community' between in EQ2 than World of Warcraft, that always makes me chuckle.
Regarding the graphics on World of Warcraft, the game starts on a low setting for most computers.  You can turn them up depending on your PC.
Read my responses in red. I don't want to start some flame war, but don't slander the game either. You clearly don't know WTF you're talking about and don't even play the game. So why open your trap. Your facts are wrong so that makes a biased opinion. One not worth listening to.

Maxed out graphics on WOW still sucks. Doesn't matter. Can even force AA to the max and it looks like garbage.

You seriously think WOW has a better community then EQ2.. ok i'm done. Fanboi alert.

Everquest only gives you 8 characters total for all servers.  You cannot switch servers to get more character slots.  It is as I stated.

Regarding the other 'red text'.  I'm glad you have fun playing with colored texts, feigning personal superiority, and not reading what I've said.  Sorry you're love for the game is greater than having an objective discussion.  I shall leave you to your addiction in peace.

Why would you really need anymore. You act as if every game needs to have 20 billion characters, but I guess that's how some people need to play.

I read what you said and shot down everything you said with experience. You don't make a negative review of something you don't have experience with. Now if you said in your opinion the game sucks. Hell no big deal, because you didn't attempt to present falsafied facts, which in this case.. you did.

I don't feel like starting some dumb flame war. Just next time don't be so stinking biased. I said what I KNOW about EQ2. You should have said what you KNOW about WOW.. instead you had to do some comparitive bullcrap with false facts and make your self look like a fanboy that doesn't know wtf he's talking about.

Anyway, OP if you can.. try both.. see which is better.. play the better one of the 2 to YOU.

I hear Lord of the Rings Online has all the best gameplay of WoW with better graphics and a more mature community.

But if you're the sort of person who lets other people tell you what to play, I'm thinking WoW is the game for you.

WOW hands down, much better combat animations and combat in general.

Plus if your into PVP I would go WOW.  Even though WOW is grindtastic, at least you have goals you can pvp for.   What goals are there to attain in eq2?  All people do in that game is pvp just to kill one another, which can be done in WOW plus some.

Also did I mention the combat?  EQ2 doesn't even compare to WOW in that reguard.

Between WOW and EQ2 I'd say go with WOW.  Some people can't get over WOW's stylized graphics though so not sure if that would be a deal breaker for you or not.  Lot's of people playing WOW though, and performance is awesome compared to most mmo's I've played.

If Everquest 2 was comparable to WoW it would have comparable numbers.  I've seen EQ2 ads on every videogame website so the visibility is there.  People do try it but they don't get into it like they do WoW.
