i played wow for 1 year and eq2 for less than a year..
EQ2 is ridiculously easy. Basically you go in, you spam w/e you have and you win. Every dungeon is like this. Don't try to debate this. Oh...sometimes the puller has to be careful not to aggro the other mobs.....yea..
WoW raiding is far better...and it actually requires some thinking on the players behalf....of course once you learn the trick it's pretty simple stuff.
pvp wise? wow
community wise? wow
even the graphics are more acceptable
eq2 models are ugly.
eq2 world feels boxed in and is beyond linear its sad.
what i did find fun about EQ2 is soloing on my summoner. root nuke and having a cool pet...
WoW is more fun..
Stop debating this and just get over it guys..geez.
A friend of mine wants me to come back to Everquest so we can go on the hunt again. Thing is after three years of World of Warcraft, the only reason why I'd go back is to hang with him. What makes matters worse, I play a Cleric and hear they have "pocket-cleric" to do the healing for him. Shazbot...they took a semi-useless class and made it completely useless. For me, that's the nail in the coffin.
Originally posted by Aetherial Sorry, I just rejoined, and a lot of your asumptions are not longer true. There is SOOOOO much more to d in Everquest, from the sheer size of the world if nothing else, than any other MMO. Even after 4 years, I rejoined everquest and the first time I got nervous running somewhere, I knew the game was STILL better than anything else out there.
You seem to be under the impression that size counts for anything. Not in MMOs. What does it matter if a game (say, oh I dunno, EverQuest) has 300 zones when you'll only find people in 16 of them? Quick, run to the Dreadlands or Kael Drakkal or Acrylia Caverns or Nobles Causeway or Torgiran Mines or Kod`Taz or Direwind Cliffs or Katta Castrum or hell, any of the zones pre-SoF. How many people do you encounter? Sheer size of the world means bupkus when the rewards of the vast majority of zones (xp, loot) is trash in comparison to a handful of zones which, surprise surprise, are the very zones people actually congregate in.
Of the two (three?) games, I'd recommend WoW if only for population. The OP specifically stated population is important. Tell me, which of the two games has had to split servers due to (their definition of) overcrowding? Which one has rolled out at least3 brand new servers every year since its release date? If population is important to you, if you're interested in PvP with rewards, if compelling gameplay that noticeably changes from expansion to expansion is important to you, go with WoW. And this from someone actively playing EQ1 (Fennin Ro server, Walking Drum guild) and WoW (Bronzebeard). Honestly, I wouldn't recommend EQ1 to anyone I wanted to actually remain friendly with at least until they cut their servers in half (and 2/3 would probably be better). Considering how many of EQ1's servers are ghost towns at any level range under 75 (go log into Drinal sometime, or any server not named Antonious Bayle or Maelin Starpyre), there's no way I could recommend it to someone looking to start from 1. Especially if they're looking for a game experience where they'd be around a lot of people most of the time.
And really, you got nervous running somewhere because you hadn't played in four years. You had no idea how easy the game has been made. Did you even know about the guild lobby and corpse summoning and wide availability of 96% rezzes that all add up to making EQ1's death penalty less painful than WoW's (repair costs are often more costly than a summoning stone and a "donation" to a professional buffer/rezzer)? I'd guess not. Saying that EQ1 is better than ANY mainstream MMO currently on the market, much less the single most popular one in the genre's history, based on four year old experience is like saying the economy right now is awesome because it was in 2004. Mind you, I like EQ1 (which is why I'm still paying for a ton of accounts) but I don't love it like I once did. It doesn't have the difficulty or the population or the complexity it once had, but I still have a ton of AA I want to get done on several characters before I put 'em away and my guild needs the versatility I provide so I'm here for a bit. But, I am still actively leveling a Death Knight, Mage, 'lock, and two priests (as well as a Brute, two Corruptors, and two Dominators ).
Go with WoW. There really aren't any MMOs on the market right now with "old school" levels of difficulty/challenge, unless they're PvP focused (and even then...).

this is all IMO, but.
If u want long term goals. EQ/ EQ2(actually may have changed now, ive heard its completely soloable now)
If u want everything given to you with very little effort WoW.
I left eq2/WoW, cause the raiding was pretty basic, EQ2 they all tank+spank, WoW timed/scripted raids.
an both have restricted raid sizes eq2 epic x2/x3/x4 number of groups, and WoW.. 40man, tho ive heard even less now.
EQ2 has alot of ways to work on your character that are not killing related.
WoW does have battlegrounds tho, which is a nice break from lamo quest grind.
my 2c,
Does anyone know how to make a mmoRPG anymore?
