I am nominating this post for the "Worse Post of the year award", I truely feel that the next 359 days left in this year isn't enough to get a dumber post than this! CONGRAGULATIONS!!!!!
Stop trolling in a post where you do not belong then, since your obviously just trolling , which im not mistaken is against the rules of this forum, now scram kid before i swallow you whole and spit out your bones.
Multi-purpose launchers are the future for companies that offer more then 1 product. Instead of maintaining several launchers they can focus on improving ONE.
You are truly uninformed l if you think SoE has more than one launcher now - sure the various games get different skins and other minor adaptations but the launchpad is modular and a single platform for all Station games. So the 'poor 'ole Sony has to make a different launcher for each game they charge people to play' argument is hollow and false.
Originally posted by KrileonNo one is forcing you to read the information or even purchase any of their other products. All you have to do is click the PLAY button and if that's to much. Set it to auto-play. So you can login and walk away. Come back and you're in-game.
You sound like one of the people who bitched because the letters SOE would be on the frikin box of the game as if it made a flying monkey poo of a difference. Your comparisons are NOT of equivelent value. You're comparing a launcher desided by SOE for SOE products and allows access and information about SOE products. How the fk can that be compared to AOL and it's advertisement for wtfever you can find on the web. That's just nonsense. You seam like you're all up in a damn huff because you have to use the SOE launcher for a non-SOE game. Good grief.
Because just like AOL that launcher is about SERVING SoE, if it was software meant to serve me it would do two things, collect a patch and authenticate my username and password - everything else is serving the needs of Sony/SoE and using my computer to do it. It is clearly another attempt by Sony, one of many, to establish a proprietary foothold on content - same thing they have been doing for years. And you don't have to be a historian to knwo what they do iwth it when they get that foothold, like AOL it starts with things you think you want and then when they got you hooked the music and movies and DRM and all this other stuff gets piled in. It is exactly the same thing they have done for years, give them a headstart if you want but I refuse to. My desktop is my desktop and I won't use 1k of it to run software designed and built to service SoE's needs and wants and not mine. If that makes me paranoid then so be it, I suppose they is why I have never had troubles like so many from their SecureROM technology or any other such DRM infestations that purport to be serving the consumer when in reality they serve the company that placed them there.
They are servicing you. The other shit you don't even have to be a part of. You can continue to enjoy your game and never have to look at the other crap. EVER. You act as if you're forced to sit through video ads before the PLAY button becomes available. Soon as you hit PLAY. Poof launcher is gone. So for a whole 2 seconds or so of your time you might read a button that says a SOE game you don't own. DAMN ADVERTISEMENT! I QUIT A GAME I ENJOY BECAUSE I SAW A FKING GREYED OUT BUTTON FOR 2 SECONDS! DAMN YOU SOE TO HELL!!!!!!!!1111!!!111ONE!!1111ELEVEN
They're not installing DRM. Hell I already have all 4 types of DRM on my system. I don't like it, but I also don't play torrent games. So they've NEVER caused me any issue... EVER. I've even used no-cd cracks for these games and they WORK FLAWLESSLY WITHOUT ANY ISSUE... I don't see what peoples problems are with DRM. To me that just makes the pirates stand out even more. My only complaint for DRM is some DVD-Drives have problems reading the disks, which has been a big issue for me lately. Letting the disk sit in the drive for 5 minutes will cause it to bypass the DRM though. THERE IS BACKUP MEASURES IN PLACE PEOPLE!!
Anyway, the launcher has nothing to do with DRM so disregard the bit above if you don't care to know it.
You're really going overboard.. seriously...

lol agent smith obviously has an agenda, and he is fighting the war on his own.
FACT: I used the station launcher during its beta when i was playing eq2, you can leave it running or turn it off
FACT: it does NOT startup with windows, so use it only when you want
FACT: it is unintrusive and does not interfere with the game or use any more of your system than theregular launcher
FACT: DOES NOT COLLECT ANY INFORMATION FROM YOUR COMPUTER
FACT: SOE is running the servers, login, publishing, csr, etc....they have EVERY right to dictate how to get into their servers
FACT: FLS has SAID they were going to give SOE the publishing rights over a year ago....don't start bitching now your going to log into a SOE server
FACT: The FLS login was in FACT a SOE login, since it is needed to login to their servers (again)...so this is no different (The Devs even told you this a LONG time ago)
FACT: So you dont want to play any other game on the launcher..guess what...YOU DONT HAVE TO! Those games appear greyed out and you don't need to EVER click on them
FACT: Other companies, like STEAM, NC, etc have had these launchers for years....wheres the people moaning and griping about them...oh wait...THERE ISNT (and we are talking about launchers with non intrusive programming)
Don't like SOE? Fine..deal with it and either suck it up and play or don't. You already stated you will not be playing it so what does it matter to you?
Smith, where does all this energy comes from? If you aren't grinding the same tired spiel into the dirt over on potbs you are in here doing it
Your experience made you ahter...you claim you aren't but anyone who spends this amount of effort going over and over and over the same points with their only response to people who don't agree being that they just don't UNDERSTAND what's really happening has some issues.
If this was a political thread I'd be checking the supply of tinfoil in your home town--this is like reading 9/11 Truther threads.
7 yearsof SOE gaming and other than some glitches with some patching I have had nothing but positive experiences with billing, customer service and the business side in general. SWG was a screw up but even then i had a great time playing it for the time i did and made some good friends out of the deal.
FACT: it is unintrusive and does not interfere with the game or use any more of your system than theregular launcher By your determination. I and others consider anything intended to deliver promotional links or functionality that is unwanted to be superfluous and unnecessary. Clearly we can agree that the sole purpose of most of the additions to the new launcher VS the old is to promote, subtly or otherwise, Station games and possibly things like Sony music and movies down the road. FACT: DOES NOT COLLECT ANY INFORMATION FROM YOUR COMPUTER You now this how? But that is really besides the point, running in the tray it is certianly possible that it could do that and Sony/SoE has been caught doing far worse on more than one occasion before. No moon landing grassy nole paranoia to not want to trust a company who has done something worse before now. FACT: SOE is running the servers, login, publishing, csr, etc....they have EVERY right to dictate how to get into their servers FLS runs the servers, SoE only does authentication and patch distribution. So they are deciding how I get in to FLS servers and forcing me to use a software application to advertises their products to get their. FACT: FLS has SAID they were going to give SOE the publishing rights over a year ago....don't start bitching now your going to log into a SOE server Again, not SoE servers, FLS runs the servers. FLS also said they would not have SoE doing this kind of SoE stuff - FLS was vocal about SoE being publisher only, now we have to go through SoE Station to get to the FLS game. I find that disappointing and wonder what is next, selling of ships like SoE does with other Station games? FACT: The FLS login was in FACT a SOE login, since it is needed to login to their servers (again)...so this is no different (The Devs even told you this a LONG time ago) Huh? FACT: So you dont want to play any other game on the launcher..guess what...YOU DONT HAVE TO! Those games appear greyed out and you don't need to EVER click on them Oh, greyed out - so that solves my objection to them using my computer to promote their games as since it is greyed out it is not an ad and not annoying. FACT: Other companies, like STEAM, NC, etc have had these launchers for years....wheres the people moaning and griping about them...oh wait...THERE ISNT (and we are talking about launchers with non intrusive programming) Steam updates free to play games - big difference. Steam is made by a well respected developer, big differance. As for other games - don't play them so don't care - but I quit using the 'but Johnnies Mom said he could' when I was 8. Don't like SOE? Fine..deal with it and either suck it up and play or don't. You already stated you will not be playing it so what does it matter to you? I forgot that people like you get all bent out of shape if anyone dare question a game they like, how dare I. I mean who am I to think I should have the right to comment about this issue. And what is wrong with me that I should want software that is streamlined and efficient and that when I pay to play a game I expect to not deal with ads and other such promotional material just to launch said game especially when it violates the wish I have for lightweight and efficient focused purpose software. How crazy that I think that way, I see now that bloatware with tons of stuff I will never use and don't want that promotes and describes and otherwise greys out info about some companies offerings is the reasonable thing to desire.
Jesus Christ, SWAgtpantiesinawad. I could say the same thing goes for you. How dare we not bow down to your obviously informed and well-adjusted opinion of what should be.
And just an FYI, Steam was a hulking pile of crap when it came out, yet people still used it. Even now, you are only able to play the games, even single player games, when Steam is running. And if Steam can't connect to its servers, guess what? You can't play any of those games you legitimately purchased through Steam. How's that for a company that thinks of the 'customer's needs'?
You've stated your opinion. We've stated ours. Multiple times over multiple forums. Enough.
Wow, what a lot of fuss over a new launcher I personally don't care about it, as long as it works and I can login to my games. I don't care about any advertising they might do. If SOE are in some way releated to this game, then I think the're entitled to advertise some of their other products.
I think it's a good move actually having a unified launcher, certainly for someone like me who has EQ2, SWG, Vanguard and soon to be POTBS all installed.
Seems like a lot of fuss over such a small thing imho. I'm also surprised at all the negative steam comments as well, maybe I'm missing something, but I think steam is fantastic, It allows me to download loads of games, usually at reasonable rates, whats not to like about it . Online distribution, it's the way forward imho.
I like the launcher, I play multiple games EQ, EQ2, Vanguard, SG:TCG, ect. One Icon on my desktop is better then 4+. Plus being able to just open the launcher and see what friends are in what game is nice.

Best post ever!
To Topic thou: Eh the OP could have stopped posting after post one, it's simple enough. Don't like it don't use it. I doubt Sony could care less if you and the other posters here never use a Sony product. In the world of billions a few thousand matter not, they obviously are still in business after all these "horrid" mistakes, so as much as the doom sayers say the "end is near", it would seem the opposite.
While SWG was a huge mistake and I don't think anyone will disagree, it didn't kill Sony as much as many wish it would have. But keep up the banter, you might find better support in the now 2 year going thread from SWG vets who still "can't let it go". Eh, last I looked; we are talking about a game are we not? Not a nation under suppression of an evil dictator.
"The monster created isn't by the company that makes the game, it's by the fans that make it something it never was"
I've had a station pass for around the past 5 years and they have always had a station launcher, just that most don't use it and go directly through to the game via each games individual log in. They are changing the skin and adding other crap (granted unwanted, by myself) such as music/movie links but other than that I just fail to see the problem here.
WRONG
Please read the big bright in your face text:
Yes. To play your Station game you must enter the game through the Station Launcher; it must be installed on your PC in order for you to play and/or download any game. The Station Launcher automatically verifies that you are a licensed entitled user of your purchased Station game and/or subscription plan. During the Public Beta you can launch your games with either Station Launcher or the older, game-specific LaunchPads. After the Public Beta is over, Station Launcher will be the only way to launch Station Games. Please use the Feedback button on the Game Select Screen of the Station Launcher or go directly to the Station Launcher forums to tell us what you think!
Sorry for the delay didn't check back. So please point out the part where I wasWRONG.I read all you colourful, size variant text with alternative fonts and italics, (even added this for the effect) still not seeing the part where I was wrong.

well the billions are not launching SOE station games, the few thousand are and as to how much the few thousand matter, your own example (SWG) speaks volumes...
Yes hardcore fans to any game can keep it going, and for every Star Wars fan I believe we all died a little, inside. I was looking forward to SWG but it just didn't do it for me, and that hurts to say, the another MMO that sounded good failed me... Vanguard. Had some great ideas but they weren't implemented as well as I hoped.
So where too look for MMO gaming then, well I am thinking Age of Conan full of cool ideas like mounted combat and player built cities(hope they do it better) and I am also looking forward to Stargate Worlds, because well all need a futuristic, modern ranged combat MMO, because I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one sick of: Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, Orcs, and other well used races, sure this is a safe genre' but in the end only gamers suffer.
