If you like asian mmo's with candy graphics then Aion is for you. Then again if you like blood and not so high-fantasy setting, then AoC is for you. There is so little information about Aion available, I cannot understand why people are jumping to greet it like it is second coming of Jesus.
Aion has more than 300 player-made videos out of beta footage, how the hell can you say theres so little information about aion lol. You just need to research a bit, though, since MMORPG.com won't put it in the front page for you.
Yes, there's tons of info about the game.
I mean this in a non-sarcastic tone, there just is.
I went to the official site and the next top 2 sites after googling AION "www.aiononline.com" and "www.aionsource.com", none really have detailed information. Sure, lots of screen-shots, lots of class/skills description, most of which is an opinion of the fan that posted that info.
NC soft is not really famous for groundbreaking games, most of its games (except for Tabula Rasa perhaps) feature a lot of grind. I doubt Aion will be hugely different from their previous games.
AOC sucks ass , already cutting corners with the classes , pushed back the date but still wont matter , game play is very bad , for all the ones waiting on aoc that have not played beta , start looking for another mmo plz dont waste your time , this game will be worse than vanguard , so i pick Aion or even Stargate Worlds

Most of the "fan's opinion" is confirmed by NCSoft PR's, all of the information and replies come from confirmed data, unless the poster points otherwise. If someone asks something in aionsource about aion most of the people will link you with a video to check by yourself, or to an interview/translation that confirms the replies. If you have any question regarding that I would gladly reply trying to give you a reliable source so you can check i'm not pullint it out of my ass.
NCsoft korea has developed only 1 franchise at the moment, which is Lineage, now, can we set a precedent from that? That game was grindy indeed, and that game is 4 years old, back when everquest (who invented the grind) was successful. Wow was the first hit that changed the grind, and wow was released after the last NCsoft's korea game. I'm guessing they've studied the market enough in these years considering how NCsoft is the biggest MMORPG company right now.
Other than that, NC has published many other games such as Guild Wars (no grind at all) Tabula rasa (no grind at all) CoX (pretty casual game and very fun one, i must say) and a few more. Can't really blame NCsoft other than the passiveness on the RMT fields for L2, however, im one of those who has faith in companies learning from their mistakes, as many AoC fans will have faith on FC learning from the disaster they made when launching AO.
Ayase giving props to nihilum for a well put article, can be taken as a confirmation of the info released there, only 1 post needed to confirm everything nihilum stated on their site, which is a good % of the info we have about Aion right now.
I'd choose Aion, because some of the look of its world reminds me of Ryzom, and some people I know are interested in it. And I couldn't care less about Age of Conan.
----------- In memory of Laura "Taera" Genender. Passed away on August 13, 2008.
Both games look very promising, hard to choose at this point. I'm going to do what I usually do and buy them both, play them for a month. Whichever I feel is more fun for me will stay in my hard drive for more than that month period.
Aion will be comming out q4 2008 (i think.....were aoc will be comming out q2 2008......so that will give you a good five-sixmonths to try out aoc before ion comes out....
*cough cough* Isn't Aion suppose to be completely quest based leveling?
I would say Aion, its prettier and its not biting more then the company can chew. On the other end, AoC is like "So what do you want in a game?", "Ya it'll have that." Too many promises leads to many complications. Not to mention Aion is funded by the 2nd most profitable MMO company, so the funding and man power is actually there to deliver.

Nah, its not completely quest based leveling, you have the choice to do that, to level in mobs/raids, or to level with pvp if you feel confident.
Aion Reasons : no grindfest (like some lazy people state that dont do research) Lots of customization, you can select several voices and pitch them up :P Seamless world, hardly any instance except for storytelling. Flying and air combat. Nice music and beatifull graphics Final Fantasy online kinda game, so yes im sold Not AoC Reasons : Heavely instanced Your alone till level 20? Not alot of armor customization Has nothing real to offer, only arcade type hack and slash combat. Boobies wont get me *rolles eyes*
Wow you are incredibly uninformed about AoC. Let me enlighten you.
First lets talk about your Aion's features and how it stacks up against AoC.
AoC will have:
no grindfest. Questing all the way, crafting will involve questing not zug zugging like a mindless peon.
more customization of your character than any MMO out there. You can change a huge variety of features on your face. The game will launch with over 1500 armor sets. Sets, not pieces. Sets are 4-8 pieces. You do the math.
Instancing and graphic design are the only advantages Aion has. In terms of Tech, AoC wins.
Go watch some dev interviews for AoC and see how amazing the music will be. www.ageofconan.com go visit that site.
As for the FFX style, thats your choice.
=====================================
Now lets talk about your bad points:
Heavily Instanced - Sadly so. But they have a lot more detail, so its excusable. The graphics engine just literally pisses over anything on the market. I kid you not.
Alone till lvl 20 - WRONG. You can quest with friends in day time quests and do the single player quests (which arent that many) on your own at night. Again, go read up..
Armor Customization - as I said, 1500+ sets of armor. Weapons will have gems. Talk rubbish much?
Combat - You've proven your completely clueless about this game once again. GO read.
Regarding Boobies. Yes they are there, so is decapitation and gore. But thats not what makes the game mature. Its the storylines, quests and the choices you must make. Again, go read up.
In summary. Please don't be ignorant like 80% of the members on these forums. Thank you.

Currently waiting for the MMO industry to put out something good.
Right now I'll play AION, CoSB, WAR, AOC or any other new game that someone can actually get released and it not suck. I'm not picky, give me anyone of them before Q3 and I'll be happy.
In the end I'll look at all of them and see which one shakes out as the most fun.

I don't know, to me, they are both different games. Unless you are a person who actively plays many games at once (who has the time? Or better yet, who with a job and outside active interests has the time?) you will most likely pick one depending on personal preference.
Since both games seem so different I don't see one taking players from the other. Both have customization but Conan is a grity, bloody mature rated game and Aion is more of an elegant, high concept game.
Though I'll try conan because friends will be there, I will most likely end up in Aion. More my taste.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Personally, the continued delay of AoC (now on it's 5th delay, until May) and the continued "dumbing down" of the game, as I see it (combat becoming less active, classes being removed entirely)...I'm not seeing great things in it's future.
I dont care about to decide based on what people says. I will buy and try all of them for 1 month , will buy AOC,Aion,WAR and Spellborn. If we would listen to all that people say on this forum we would all prolly play Vanguard
Wow, I must say i'm genuinely surprised at the amount of people supporting Aion here. A big thank-you to those people who actually took the time to read up on the game, and realize that it isn't a korean grindfest.
I like that NCSoft is keeping info about Aion under wraps at the moments, they're going to build up a low amount of hype and when the game is released it's going to be much greater than expected. AoC however has so much hype around it now and the devs have so many promises to keep that there's virtually no way they can create a game that fufills everyone's expectations.
I dont have anything against AoC other than the fact that it will be heavily instanced, I just think Aion is more appealing and will be more fun to play in the long run. PvP is where its at and Aion will own in this department.
Aion definitely. I'm glad to see it come up in a topic here as well, it truly doesn't get the attention it deserves
i totaly agree
And I'd like to keep it that way. In fact I pray all the B.N kiddies flock to AOC or WAR. Yep just leave Aion & Spellborn to us geezers.
While I'll probably give AOC a shot the chance of a decent community is slim. The whole zonning thing is way old that's why I'm not still playing EQII.
depends if you like shiny - happy generic, cheesy, over the top, anime, high fantasy mmo's or would prefer dark, brutal, adult, low fantasy, original mmo.
edit: i would imagine it would depend on wether you are asian or western too
NCSoft used to aim at the Asian market, like Blizzard does with World of Warcraft but instead for the NA/EU market making the game casual friendly and releasing WoW/TBC in NA/EU first. With Aion, NCSoft's plans are to develop it for the western market, instead of the asian one.
