I think with The way technology is racing ahead these days they could have put a lil more effort in but they are obviously just going for mass appeal cause lets face it there are more average PC's out there then there are super PC's.
Having played DAOC at launch, I still remember the massive lag that happened whenever you got a couple of hundred players together in one spot. Playing at 1 frame every 3 seconds is just not fun And it's not just DAOC... take any game not designed to have 200 players on screen at once and try it, you'll see what I mean.
I'll take lesser eye candy over the performance hit from too much detail any day of the week.

Yeah I think the game is artistically lacking, but with the line up of games out currently that probably can be overlooked. If the game is as solid gameplay wise as people say. the lackluster graphics will not be an issue.
Should wait for final release before judging the graphics, because betas are there to test gameplay not graphics. Also unless you are running top of the line computer you won't be running the game on high settings in mass pvp anyway.
I'm laughing at all the people that keep saying they are using a crappy outdated game engine. I do hope you people realize the game engine they are using (Gamebryo) is the same game engine used for Oblivion.
Yes, Oblivion graphics are way outdated.
And BTW, go to a convention they are at and play the game. Screenshots do not do the game justice.
Graphics will never make a game good or better! Me still loves 2D Sprite based games!
Thats technical but I'm talking about Artistic.
They have great artists if you havn't noticed.
The artists produce the concept art and after getting the OK from Games Worshop, hand it over to the rest of the team so that they can create the in-game models of the art.
IMHO I feel that graphics is one of the problems we see in all the games released today. (what do I mean by that?)
By that I mean that as a community we have placed so much pressure on the gaming industry to come up with better and better graphics that I feel a large portion of the design and development buget is spent ON graphics and not content.
Eye candy is eye candy and any candy gets old when one flavor is all you have.
Or to put it another way, a painted turd is still just a turd.
My suggestion to the OP and others is that you should really concentrate on the content and what that offers instead of how pretty the turd is because it will never be the graphics that keep you or others playing a game. It will be content every time.
It is like a relationship. Sure, sometimes, and probably most times, it is how someone looks that attracts you to them first, but "looks" will never keep the relationship going. It takes content.
The graphics are fine. It is the gameplay, which offers NOTHING new that is going to put off most of the potential playerbase. WAR isn't doing anything that hasn't been done before, over and over again.

Please feel free to post everything they have introduced and where it has been done before.
Here are a few starting points.
Find a "Tome of Knowledge" in another game.
Find Siege RvR in another MMORPG other than DAoC (which was made by Mythic).
Find another Trophy System.
Find another form of Warhammer Healer Gameplay.
EDIT: Thanks poster below - Find another form of Public Quests.
Have fun, and you get bonus points for these I have listed.

LOL, 99% av MMO's suck.
Now u got my attention. I would really want to know that 1 % u left out, cuz now u got my expectations really high that there is one MMO out there that is pure awesome. Pls tell me which one it is so i dont have to w8 for warhammer online with those "already have done"
I find it hard to see what the point of arguing over the graphics of this game really has on the game itself. Graphics are a personal opinion, and if someone say the graphics sucks and you have no opinion of your own and don't play, then you have other problems to deal with.
Play the game or don't play it no one is going to wonder where you are and miss you, your opinion of the graphics really is irrelevent.
I have seen all the videos, artwork, screens, and am still amazed at what is to come. I enjoy graphics as much as anyone else, yet it is not a determining factor on if I play a game or not.
This video seems to be at a higher quality then just about most others, and while it does not show any pvp/pve it has plenty of glimpses of what we can expect from world. Keep in mind also that this video is almost 3 months old. Just imagine what else can be polished and redone.
Just stop arguing one way or another, it really doesn't matter.
The only reason why I'd play WAR is the RvR, graphics matter very little after all. All in all, the game seems cartoonish but I haven't even played in beta so I guess I can't really say anything yet. RvR will compensate the cartoonish graphics if it is done well.

"No one is going to miss u"... LOL
U wanna bet Myhic doesnt agree with u? Or EA?
It really DOES matter. What doesnt matter is fanboys like u. Cuz u gonna buy the game even if its in black and white.
I think they are aiming for a bit more ppl than u fanboys.
Im gonna bet that our opinion of the graphics means a lot. Same discussions going on warhammeralliance and war-rvr and im gonna bet that many betatesters thinks the same as us. This is indeed an indication that there is an opinion out there about the graphics that should tell Mythic that there is work to do in the graphics department.
After a quick look on the internet I must say I agree, the game gonna look butt ugly and no one will play it. I mean common...just look on the armor ...its butt ugly and now I dont want to play this rubbish game anymore. And just imagine when they turn on proper lightning and shadows..eww the game gonna suck... not to talk about very high graphic settings. And it is cartoony? ohhh the horror...the humanity! I cant live on...

I think it looks alright. I guess its up to each and one of us to judge if the graphics gonna make it or break it. But from a quick search in google I can see images from the game, and they look quite alright to me.

Too right i was gonna say them exact same words lol it is so true that we as a gaming community expect so much these days from the developers that we end up with half baked games that we end up flaming because it is still in beta stage.. Well we only have our selves to blame and besides the fact if we keep pushing the boundaries with graphics and some 1 finally pulls one off then there will be such a small community playing it because none of us can afford to re mortgage the house just to keep up with the PC specs lol so i think the game is rigt on par with the graphics a little cleaner than WOW but still easy enough to adapt a wide range a customers.
It really DOES matter. What doesnt matter is fanboys like u. Cuz u gonna buy the game even if its in black and white.
I think they are aiming for a bit more ppl than u fanboys.

First of all I never said I was going to buy the game or not. I nor am a "fanboy" as I have never played any Mythic game or even WOW for that matter. The popularity of the game is already present, look at the 600k+ beta signups. That is not to say all those people will actually play the game, but if the beta testers are supposed to be some of the more "hardcore" players, just imagine what other more casual players will join, some whom have not even heard of the game.
There are about equally amounts of posts about people who like and dislike the graphics, and i bet you most that dislike will play anyways. The longterm subscriptions are what are still up in the air, that will depend on the gameplay and content of the game. People will buy the game and try it out regardless of the graphics, if they stay is up to how fun it is, which is the point.
Every game has work to do with graphics, simply because our standards are too high for them. Sure we could have a new engine and make it look alot better, but seriously, who wants to wait even longer for a game to come out. New engines aren't developed over night you know.
As this topic haven't really engaged me I haven't made any comment about this so far. However I now felt it was time to just drop by and leave a little comment. So here we go.
From what I've seen so far on these forums and the various topics about graphics it seems like there is two categories of pictures.]
The ones that don't look very good, these seems to the most common ones. These are the ones that I get slightly put off when seeing, but I still stick to my original statement that it's the gameplay.
The ones that look quite good, these seems to be the more uncommon ones and I only see them in topics about graphics. The pictures got nice lightning, isn't very pixelated and looks quite good actually.
So what does this have to do with anything? Well as it is now I suppose the newer people who haven't been around checking out WAR for so long go to WAR's page and see these crappy pictures and think "Thats bloody awful!". They then go and make a topic here and get flamed and some people post some pictures that look good in return.
I saw some comment around these forums (probably this topic) that the pictures so far don't have lightning effects and are from beta, meaning that the pictures released aren't from the finished game. Now if this is correct, and it seems like it is so to me, then I wonder why do Mythic do this? It's obvious that this is making lots of people who were considering buying the game, reconsider and not buy it.
Mythic have before, at least in my opinion, proved that they got a strange view on advertising; so far they've released mostly videos to show off RvR for press and so, meaning they haven't showed the full potential of RvR. If this is true then I'm happy because that means PvP and RvR will be awesome, but for Mythic it's a terrible decision.
So if what I've mentioned above is true then I wonder what are Mythic doing!? You could think of it in two ways; either RvR and graphics will be as we see them now or RvR and graphics will be better, but Mythic has proved that they aren't the best to show off the good sides of their game. I personally don't think Mythic is as stupid as they seem from the conclusions I've made here, yet it seems like they are.
Someone could clear some things up here because to me this seems very strange and stupid from a company, whose main job in the end is to make money.
Nope, nobody cares about graphics. Gameplay and story is what drives an MMORPG. Specifically a fantasy MMORPG. Graphics are important insomuch as they drive the story. There is a reason why Mud's were/are so popular. People care about the story. If you don't believe that story is important and Graphics are the most important thing, Go play Vanguard. In 5 years PC's wont play that game at the highest settings. But it died because it's just abysmal story/gameplay.
Now with all that being said a successful mmo needs thefollowing elements:
-Gameplay (WTF, you have to move with the TFGH Keys and use the numpad for skills?!??! Shift to dodge?!?!)
-Population (Growth and behavior)
-Story
-Wide ranging appeal (something for everyone)
-Community (Comics, real world items, collectibles, message boards, artwork)
-A Hook, a catch (Wicked PvP, Endless PvE, Grind to exalted for items)
-regular updates, expansions
Why are graphics not on that list? Why is sound/Music not on that list?
Are those items important? Sure they are, but they do not a successful MMO make (sp). Then again that's my list. Having a giant COCK in the middle of every city might be on yours.

I am a graphic whore, but a intelligente one:
- I don't really need utlra high resolution textures, but like it
- I want good animations
- I want good maps
- I want good sounds, icons, fonts, texts, lore, etc..
- I want servers ,client and netcode, to able 40 players on screen
The most important factor is gameplay. If the game is dull or the servers empty, even the best graphics will not save it.
Should wait for final release before judging the graphics, because betas are there to test gameplay not graphics. Also unless you are running top of the line computer you won't be running the game on high settings in mass pvp anyway.
