Eidos, which pressed gamespot to fire a reviewer, is part of this game, FYI.

There is a nearly enough gamers to make a small country that refuse to buy SOE games, and I am one of them.  And that may be why SOE fails to produce a game with more that 50k players, and most are way below that after people realize the crap they tend to make or how once their greedy hands gets all over a game, they utterly destroy the original creators intentions.  SOE refuses to fix bugs, pumps out unfinished expansions with ever more bugs to come, and has the worse customer service in the industry.

So I for one do NOT purchase anything Sony if I can help.  Don't watch Sony movies, and will purchase anything but Sony electronics.  So my realization of how horrid SOE products are just enabled me to not purchase anything Sony if I can help it.

Only source I trust for reviews any more is penny arcade. Their reviews, interests and concerns are from the perspective of a gamer and not a business employee. I've seen plenty of reviews from them that were negative, and as the source and owners of an extremely popular and high traffic gaming related site, they have a amount of clout in the industry and control such that no one could squelch them effectively. I believe they also have spoken in the past about companies trying to coerce them into giving a good review for a bad game, an attempt which seems to be futile. I find their reviews to be open and honest without any bullshit, which is exactly how all reviews should be. And I haven't yet seen them speak well of a game and find that after buying it, I disagreed.

If I were on this forum being extremely negative and racist, I'd get banned, and IP blocked probably. That's censorship. If I were talking about bunnies and flowers and got banned and IP blocked, it would be equivalent to the previous example. Not because the offenses are equally offensive, but because in the private realm the owner's rules are law.

If Eidos payed gamespot (in money or goods/services) and got a reviewer fired: Okay? Yay? Free market working. Yeah, it sucks for the guy/girl, but gamespot is a business. When it sees an opportunity to make/take money, it will.

Chill the hell out people. It is NOT a big deal. Cry more. It's the way of the world, and it's not bad.

Probably the most stupid reply i read so far.

Do you realize what you just wrote? The consequences of it?

If gamecompanies wont "accept" a review and "blackmail" the different websites by redrawing their ads its a truly "bought" website that will only work as another advertisment site for the rich gamecompanies and what you read in their reviews will be just about the same as any gloryfying advertisment made by the developing company themself. There will be no "fair" reviews anymore. When you try to get a neutral point of view on a game it will all be bought information from rich gamecompanies that wont accept negative information on their product.

Calling this not bad is just above me. Its nothing but bad.

do you watch T.V.? i don't anymore for that reason. i agree with the post above me, look for independent reviews. thats why the internet is great. but it  doesn't surprise me at all, this isn't first time this has happened nor will it be the last. no need to get in uproar about it.

Are you serious? SOE does produce games with over 50K. The games they produce. Everquest, Everquest 2 have well above those numbers. I don't know your sources. SoE could care less about MxO, Vanguard (another with 50K+ subs). You know why am i even explaining dont play SOE games.

That is because SOE says so right?  There is no real third party confirmation of those numbers, only what SOE says, and besides they have their own shake up going right now.

But here is the real truth, how many SOE games do you see on the shelves of your local game store?  Most won't carry them since they drug their feet on returning of Vanguard, absolutely refused to carry SOE products.  Ya good ole Smedely and SOE rocks!!!

There are probably only a handful of companies that would fund a game reviews company if the company gave honest *and/or bad* reviews.

The problem is, review companies are companies with websites and magazines and download programs and internet stores and advertisement banners, and if they cant survive off that sometimes huge revenue then they arent doing something right.

I know, I know... who cares or whats the problem with a game company paying for a good review? Hmm... that's a good question, lets try this in a different field shall we?

Should news companies be allowed to pay every newspaper to censor any articles regarding them? No.

Should car companies be allowed to pay J.D. Power and other award/review companies to give them a good review or a fancy award? No.

In the end it doesnt matter, hell I've been following this game for over a year and i didn't even know eidos was still making games muchless involved with AoC, who cares? Once they fix the '10ft. distance mmo fighting standard' that i see in NDA breaking beta videos, the same crappy 'theres like 10ft between us!' fighting standard you see in pretty much every mmo, then i'll announce I'm buying AoC, but untill then i'm just another forum troll asking you riddles and letting you into the GAP and cursing anti-troll trolls
