Anyone who cancels is a complete retard. 1) This is a STRESS TEST. I repeat, STRESS TEST. It WILL run like crap and it WILL be buggy. 2) It is a BETA. Not a TRIAL or DEMO 3) It only levels you to 13. That to me is more of a extremely small preview. Anyone who thinks this beta is meant to sell copies obviously doesn't know or has played a lot of MMOs through their testing stages.
As i explained, i cancelled not for anything wrong with the game, was personal preference, i know what i like. Don't assume you know why people cancelled and call them retards as you made yourself look like one with this post.

Normally that would be the case but on the article posted on this site yesterday it was stated that:
The thing is that there were a couple of lingual missteps here. While Jorgen addressed one of them, in saying that they probably should have called it the Fileplanet beta rather than an open beta, I would go one step further and say that it probably should have been called the “Fileplanet beta preview”. In the end, that’s what it is. It’s a preview. The AoC General Beta is still alive and kicking and is separate from the FP “Open Beta”. I honestly think that Funcom heard their audience calling for some kind of an open beta preview (when people complain that there won’t be an OB, I would suggest that it’s because they want to test the game before buying). And rather than not providing players any chance to try the game pre-launch,I think that the AoC folks probably set up this deal with Fileplanet in an attempt to give players a bit of a preview.
Now this is just a blogger's opinion, but I think it is pretty accurate. This whole fileplanet beta was just a sample of the product. I find it enjoyable for what it is, and have enjoyed the tech betas and pvp weekend that I have gotten into as well, but Im not deluding myself about this "open beta".
Cheers!
edit and from the developer himself: “We are just a few weeks away from launch, and when moving into the final push beta stage it’s important for any MMO to ensure a final push attention as well. In my experience most all MMOs these days use the last few weeks for a more marketing orientated beta process, and Fileplanet seems to be the #1 gaming site in that regards.

Please do some more reading, performance issues have been noted in the closed beta as well, with half empty servers. Anyone who has beta tested a couple of MMOs and enough brain cells to process the information knows that there are no major chances in performance from open beta to launch day. I have played AoC in two computers, one can run it, one can not. Nothing has changed in 6 months in that aspect. They're both well above minimum requirements.
I'm very glad for those who can run it smoothly, but for those who cannot, don't get your hopes up.
I agree 13 levels should be enough to let you know if you want to spend your hard earned money on it, personally I do want to spend my money on it. Having said that no I don’t think 13 levels will tell you if you truly love the game and will abandon your life for it or not but it should tell you if you like the game well enough to shell it out.
As to beta being a marketing tactic yes it is but it is not aimed a the mass target; this is a beta even though AoC is gold its still not going to be as it is on release or it shouldn't be I should say, you are going to be running on overloaded servers most likely you will likely get to experience several planed events if Funcom is smart; such as drop in bandwidth, mass login/logout, etc. the idea is that you have a ton of clients spamming the server so you can test its stability and or your systems ability to recover from a given error with or without impacting the whole player base.
Having said that if you don’t like the game even if it’s because you think it’s to buggy then don’t pre order it wait a few months then look back at it I say this as release even if everything runs smooth is going to be a tidal wave of crap; you will have a ton of new players swarming in (ideally more than you do in beta) granted the servers should be up to par by this time but that doesn't mean it’s not going to stress and or crash a few times from the load. Few months down the road when it’s chilled a bit and Funcom has there ducks in a row from the launch then you might want to look at it again.
Same goes for just about any bit of software. . you are don’t want to deal with at least a few minor issues then do not buy it the day it hits the shelves; doesn't mean it sucks just means it software.
I'm keeping my pre-order....this is beta...patches will come...and come and come and things will be smooth. I remember WoW's open beta and the same thing happened and the same things were said and to tell you the truth...it will work out. Never judge a book by it's cover. For this game may have tons of blank pages, but they will be filled. And when it does....I'll be there. Be your own judge...you will be paying the money to play it. If you don't like it, then it's easy as 1, 2, 3 to cancel. I was a beta tester for tons of MMOS, some I liked, some I hated, and some I thought were a waste of hardrive space and the creators should go work at Pizza Hut....but you know what...I decided if I liked it or not...not some kid who thinks the game should be 100% complete, no flaws, no bugs, etc. during a beta.
yeah im deffinetlly canceling there were bugs in beta and it lagged on 3 servers with 50,000 people in the first stress tess yeh im so canceling does it hurt to be stupid?
No, but it hurts to be ignorant. The issues people are mentioning also happened in mostly empty servers.

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
AoC is the first slasher mmo i've played in quite a while (playing EVE). I'm not judging the game, but I'm not sure if I enjoy this genre anymore.
I enjoy this enre but the combat is not revolutionary in the least. Cutting off heads gets redundant after awhile. Other then that it s just a clickfest on a littlesquare that lights up.
I've played in the technical beta for this game, and it was laggy then, and that problem continues to persists throughout the game which is a MAJOR turn off for me.
And open betas are usually used to promote the game, and are seldomly used for stress testing servers. Mass marketing is the only way to get gamers to buy up the mmo market, and first impressions really tell where the fan service is in the end
And just too be clear, the first few levels are, in my honest opionion, to see if you like the feel of the game play, since it is a little different from most standard click and watch die mmo schemes

its far more fun to press keys than click atleast combat isnt 2seconds per swing.
What do you do in other games? click the little icon square on your hotbar?
I'm going to laugh my ass off when you thick-headed people see the release build and say "but wait...why isn't it laggy and stuttering?"
Funcom mods and testers with half a brain can tell you WHY you're seeing poor performance and WHY it's intentional at this phase, and you children still don't understand.

Directional combat moves are nothing more than binded hotkeys. You know, other MMOs also give you the option to create keybinds, it's pretty cool, you should look into it.

QFT, and the way the combo pops up after you've performed the previous requirement, its kind of like this other game called EQ2.

Ugh you just don t get it
he's just one of those know it all kinda guys. you just have to give him a little slack.
I canceled my pre-order, but would pre-order if they gave it sufficient time in beta to get the polish it needs. At this point with the current release schedule I don't think they can achieve that and I'd really hate to see funcom destroy another decent game with a crap release like they did with AO.
Definately not dumping my pre-order. I played tonight with only a few obvious bugs and some minor issues. I experieced some lag but I expected it as they are stress testing these servers.
I think it will a worthy entry into the MMO realm and has some interesting aspects they can build on. There are lots of voice overs from what I can tell too.
I have seen games that were more polished this close to launch (ahem....LOTRO) but many more that were in worse shape. I think it will be clean enough at launch to be enjoyable and will improve over time just as other games have.

oh yeah,.. more key clicks to do they same thing. 1left 2 up 3right swing and *fun* ///um no.
it has 5 minutes of interest and that's it.
But as the devs and fanbois like to say 'it makes it soooo more involved and immersive'.
Um... grinding the same shiat and having to click more keys is just tiresome.
This 'feature' is a actually a regression because most games offer keybinds, but you monkeys like anything shiny. You are simple to pleez.
You fail at mmo design innovation.
When you are killing your 20,000 'bol' lemme know how that is workin' out for ya. Do you wanna hit it from the left, the right or smash it on the head... all of which are the same as pressing 1, 2, 3.... BUT with extra keys to hit becuase the devs think hitting more keys is 'funner' than hitting less keys.
Um... try making a better game to be fun. Don't try to add key mechanics in to make something simple more difficult and annoying.
But that is the saga of this company... one step forward and two steps back. Enjoy your carpal tunnel.
Because instead of combat keys 1, 2, 3, you are pressing combat keys 1left, 2up, 3 right..... um.. more tedium is not fun and may be more engaging for a few minutes, but it is epic fail.

You really need to learn what an open beta is for. Stress testing and capturing future customers from the preview. It is called marketing.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

Cool system, but not for everyone.
>>> MMOs From A Players Perspective <<<
AND THEN, consider the fact that it's primarily pvp.... and you will end up with empty servers because of bad game design and pvp content.
Then the pvp'rs will whine that 'nobody plays' when THEY have driven all the other players away... boo hoo.
ULTRA EPIC FAIL AHEAD.
You've been warned. (But it might be fun for the first month or so)
