Maybe Funcom could offer a money-back guarantee like those ads do on TV?
Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't offering open beta a "Try Before You Buy" kind of deal? So in that case it was try our game before you decide and there is not need for a refund!
See, this is why Funcom waited so long to lift the NDA. All these nimrods wanting to bash a game before it is polished and don't fully understand the concept of beta. If you use beta as a free trial then you will almost always be disappointed.
It's funny how someone says there is improvement after a patch and the op still gets flamed.

I feel that many many people only have WoW to compare other games too, and they are comparing a game that has been out all of these years to a game at launch. Blizzard put tons of hours into WoW before launch, and then tons into keeping it updated, polished, and expanded for all of this time so it is not like a normal game where it comes out and that is what you get. Maybe a patch or two at best.
Due to this I would be terrified to lift an NDA, or even have an Open Beta, because of the sheer amount of players that are like this considering how many millions started into this genre just for that game and most of their forum presence is influenced by the WoW boards...
I of course have no precise numbers, but it looks like 80% of the players have seen huge improvements, with people for whom the game was unplayable before now able to play the game fine.
For some (like me) the game was playing fine and it's still fine. And there are a couple players who see some performance degradation, fortunately these are the minority.
The new lighting and shadow improvements add even more to immersion, looks great

People, I was AMAZED when I logged in today after patching the closed beta client. No hitches, glitches, lags or anything! Game even LOOKS so much better with improved shading they did today!
Now this is a game in shape for sale, and I really wonder, like so many people before me, why did they allowed so many people to see this very laggy game that WAS AoC until today. I will log in open beta later, but I heard it's not patched to this beautiful thing yet.
Oh well, these bad feelings are all behind us now, and I'm happy to say, see you all in Hyboria, where HEADS WILL ROLL!
CONFIRMING THE IMPROVEMENTS TOO! I am in closed beta AND the open beta... People, I was AMAZED when I logged in today after patching the closed beta client. No hitches, glitches, lags or anything! Glad to hear it! I actually didn't believe it would happen. So, I'm wrong and I am okay with that. I would rather the game be shot down on its own merits than over some hardware issues anyway. If nothing else, I'm glad to hear that Funcom aren't complete morons. Convince them to re-do AO now...I liked those concepts a ton.
Here's to hoping they add the new code to open beta so those of us not in closed can see the improvements and base our decisions on that, and not the current state of things.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence. Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.
Seems like some, if not most of the Haters use internet forums as a steam vent for some personal frustration.. People: Its just a f.....ing computer game!!
Oops! Seems like Im venting some frustration here aswell , hehe..
Anyways, im not in the cb myself but this last patch 's performance gain is also "verified" at several threads at a betaforum I visit regulary..
my own experiance has nt been quite so good . the loading times are a lot better but the game still runs pretty badly on my mid range system . so yes there have been some improvements but not enough to make me want to buy it as yet . (2.8 ghz pentium dc 8800 nivdea and 4 gb ram ) friends with slighly better rigs also report perfromance issues in tortage and the inns espeacially .

They ARE re-doing AO.. later this year (if I recall correctly) it's getting a new graphics engine.
French beta testers report crappy graphics, with a very dark screen (they need to put gamma at 1.7 to play) along with the huge framerate improvement. A lot of testers got this too ?
How many of the french are still using CRT monitors ?

I hope they touch up the UI a bit too. The old control scheme was annoying at best. I always liked what AO was about. Just looking at the game gave me a headache though. More good news for me! I had heard they were gonna do it...but never got an actual date.
This was the first 3+ page thread I've read entirely through in maybe years. I don't have a gaming computer right now(I will in a week) and all I have to rely on is forum feedback and You Tube Videos. I started with a positive outlook, dipped into the negative, and then kept positive from the PvP Weekend on. However most threads are a rollercoaster in the postive and negative feedback. This one just keeps climbing higher and higher as it goes along. Very exciting stuff.
its as if people dont want this to do well someone say the game has improved people dont belive them.....
Improved for some and getting worse for others.
Why dont fanbois inform us about the whole picture. Instead they just write the positive stuff and leave the negative out, pathetic.
Because we have grand people like you to do all the negativity. With so much hate, we don#t need to put in negative comments. It evens itself out eventually.
See, there is the thread that states that the latest patch has been a big performance increase for someone. Many people agree...and you pounce on it and try to destroy it. Fun fun.

an innovative, fun, polished game
Where's the fun in that? heh just joking.Aint gonna play it, but the genre has had all the VG's it can support already, two fingers crossed for a polished launch.

NEW IDEAS that can refresh the STALE state of MMORPGs
In my time in tortage as a lvl 5-10 Aquilonian, I used to have a comic book next to my computer, so I could read while waiting for loading....
But, now I barely have time to pick up the comic book... And I tell ya, I'm darn quick at the draw.
Huge improvements, I dare say better improvements in one patch than another hyped game soon to be released has had in many patches.
The last of the Trackers

NEW IDEAS that can refresh the STALE state of MMORPGs
Could it actually be...after 10 years of MMOs...
....a real miracle patch?
If anyone sees any horsemen of the Apocalypse let me know!
To be honest, I was getting pretty good performance on the open beta yesterday, so im excited to see what they have done to polish it up.
